And here i find myself, again, binge watching the "CBS Evening News" with "Steve Hartman on the Road" . Because it *feels so good* . And that means something, coming from someone who suffers from severe Depression. THANK YOU ! CBS News.
It so sad that it takes kids to teach adults to have compassion for others. The majority of kids in correction facilities have rarely felt loved in their life so they don't even know how to respond to it. For them its all about survival.
This two young boys changed a whole teams outlook by one idea and big act of kindness. When the one played said his parents came to only one game bc they didn’t have time to come to anymore that was so sad. That group of kids are in the situation they are in mostly bc they don’t have support, love and the encouragement they need and deserve. Then they show up to their game expecting no one and instead they have a whole gym filled with students and parents cheering them on supporting them also with their own cheerleaders and posters. This is so heartwarming and shows that our youth have more insite on life than many adults.
I coached a team from a juvenile correctional facility in Wisconsin. It was incredibly fulfilling and for most of the kids the greatest time if their life. If there are schools out there that are hesitant to play a team from such a place I highly recommend it!
Those guys will likely remember you for a long time. You invested in them and their potential to be something more in the future. You'll probably never know the impact you had on them. On their behalf, for those who couldn't or didn't know how to tell you or show you their gratitude, thank you.
I am so deeply proud of those two loving, creative, and compassionate youth who made this happen. Put them in Congress, today. No, politics is below them. Bravo!
What great sportsmanship. I really admire the other team's kindness by rallying a cheering team for the high school team from the correctional facility. We all need encouragement. Many blessings to both teams.
ALL of them are simply... 💙. To everyone who supported the mission of those 2 young men... YOU ARE PHENOMENAL. They will NEVER forget your act of LOVE for their vision. 💜🙏🏾💜
Awesome couple of young men. I wish more people their age showed that much care and compassion for other people. They showed support and care for them as “people” and that is wonderful. I hope their parents are proud because I am proud of them for the way they are. And he’s right that is how sports should be! He’s very smart!
The parents of these young men should be so proud. Kindness costs the giver nothing and can be priceless to the receiver. And kindness always pays dividends, always.
Probably the greatest self-image booster that these guys ever received. Heartwarming, and a wonderful idea from the 2 Waco players. Outstanding video from people that teach us a better way of looking at things.
In Trondheim, Norway some students formed «we support the visiting team» so just like we saw here, the visiting team will always have some supporters behind them.
Something like this gives anyone hope. Whether you play sports, whether you despair of the next couple of generations. No matter what! As the young man said, we all need a little encouragement. I wonder, 7 years later, what the effect on the young men who are spending time in juvvie has been. I think if it was me it would have a profound effect on everything I did! From the court to the classroom. Even if it never happened again, in the back of my mind I think I could easily say, maybe not today but at this one time during this one game, someone cared enough to root for us. And I was a part of that. They were rooting for me. They believed in me!! What a shame that the kids own parents couldn’t make time to come to their son’s games. Not exactly encouraging for your child that when they are probably at the lowest point in their young lives and their parents can’t be bothered!!
This is so sweet. I play on girls varsity and during home games, no one ever comes to our games meanwhile for the boys varsity and Jv, everyone goes. It's sad but it doesn't stop us from doing what we love. Basketball for life!!
That is horrible! You young ladies on the girls' basketball team work just as hard as the boys do. You deserve the same amount of support as the boys basketball team has at their games!
This is so sweet and real sad the other team family, friends and school do not support their players. I work 40-60 hours my daughter was in the band, I chaperone the band wherever they went. It’s no excuse for these kids not to have support.
The "school" is a juvenile prison. As noted in the piece, the other prisoners can't attend these away games. When that one kid said his parents only came once because they didn't have time, I didn't take it as the parents not caring. He is probably incarcerated hours away from his home. Texas is a huge state. The prisoners' families and friends can't travel 3-4 hours each way that often.
That’s so special that they would do this for the other team, especially as ten other team was obviously full of ppl who had challenging backgrounds and times
He's a young man with character and integrity. Not surprised he is kind and well liked. I wouldn't be surprised to know that he attends on a full scholarship.
Vanguard College Prep are my heroes. This goes way beyond good sportsmanship! I'll bet Gainesville never had this much support, especially from opposing fans!
I've often wondered what would happen if one of the major networks would run 30 minutes of these kind of stories once a week. That's news I would make a point to watch.
I love this story!! Imagine if only 50% of the world could do what these young men did on that day, how much better of a place we would all be in. Not once was Race, Gender, or Where someone was from mentioned at all. At least these young men are part of our future, maybe they can all come together and create some change in this world.
It's sad when judgement is passed without having all the facts to make an informed assessment. In fact - it's sad when the predilection to judge at all is so gleefully indulged.
Just want to point out that juvenile team's lack of attendance is directly related to why they got in trouble in the first place.. lack of support. its sad bro
True sportsmanship. This is what rehabilitation should look like. Accepting their mistakes for whatever they are and encouraging them to do better. Our incarceration policies by far are lagging in true rehabilitation.
Meanwhile I'm here in the middle east where we don't even have official seasons and games and literally one or 2 parents actually come to the tiny stands we have We only have 4 or 5 practice matches the entire school year and that's it :( Till now I don't even know how seasons work and the state championship
Play for the love of the game and the spirit of friendly competition rather than for any championship. A person learns more from losing than from winning.
And here i find myself, again, binge watching the "CBS Evening News" with "Steve Hartman on the Road" .
Because it *feels so good* . And that means something, coming from someone who suffers from severe Depression.
THANK YOU ! CBS News.
Sorry about the depression Kitebuggy. I hope you're okay.
Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya.
hey, going through the same thing right now, i now how you feel, hope you're doing better love :)
Lol...I just can't stop!!!
I am rapidly becoming a Steve Hartman fan

Sad but true
Mr J sometimes kids see things adults can’t
"We all need someone who knows our mistakes and loves us anyway."
That's true!
😍😍😍
That's true
100% true
THAT IS SO TRUTHFUL AND BEAUTIFUL
And Thats God
time and time again, kids prove they are the best humanity has to offer...

What an incredibly encouraging story. May the players on both of these teams grow up to be successful men in society and be a blessing to the Lord.
Honestly the sports industry could learn a thing or two by watching this.
Core Voltage couldn’t agree more
I couldn't agree more. Mainly with the NBA and the NFL
what a compassionate thing to do. i hope it makes some kind of impact on others. their parents should be proud!
2:30
Probably remember this for the rest on my life
He is so serious
@Craig yo
You can tell he's trying not to cry.

Not everyone but most do deserve a second chance
DragonFly Donald trump deserves a second chance after he gets kicked out innit
I watch Steve Hartman when my soul is aching and needs some healing. What a legend in the human interest sector. Just awesome and always heartwarming.
They showed maturity, compassion, empathy & respect by doing that!! So proud of u!! Stay blessed!! Aloha!!
I am so deeply proud of those two loving, creative, and compassionate youth who made this happen.
Put them in Congress, today. No, politics is below them. Bravo!
Sweetest boys ever! This gives so much hope, especially in a time like this👍🏼 good job vanguard boys!!
Congrats gainsville!!!!!!
What great sportsmanship. I really admire the other team's kindness by rallying a cheering team for the high school team from the correctional facility. We all need encouragement. Many blessings to both teams.
Leave it to them to not tell the winner.
You could probably make a very legit guess on your own... ;)
they both won
Vanguard College Prep won, big. But who cares????
This is the purest form of sportsmanship I've seen in a while
An True Lesson in Sportsmanship & Community.
ALL of them are simply... 💙. To everyone who supported the mission of those 2 young men... YOU ARE PHENOMENAL. They will NEVER forget your act of LOVE for their vision. 💜🙏🏾💜
Beautiful moments are always going to be in ppls hearts. ❤️
Okay, whoever write the narratives of this segment. I just wanna say, you are doing a great job. Woooow. I love all your narratives.

Awww this is amazing and so sweet. There are amazing people out there
The parents of these young men should be so proud. Kindness costs the giver nothing and can be priceless to the receiver. And kindness always pays dividends, always.

Thats just simply awesome. So very heartwarming
This remind me of the movie the Longest Yard. I'm going to cry 😢
Kindness is everything
Great guys to help encourage someone else. Kudos to that great team and their supporters.
The look on the face of the first Gainesville player to walk out at 1:26 is priceless.
What a true selfless act!
Love watching this On the Road with Steve Hartman!
In Trondheim, Norway some students formed «we support the visiting team» so just like we saw here, the visiting team will always have some supporters behind them.
That's awesome. It's suppose to be about friendly competition.
This is a true definition of sportsmanship and this story needs to be in the dictionary.
That young man said it best, sports is about encouragement
Funny how some young adults have more concern and understanding, than our own government officials. Stay EXACTLY how you are. GENTLEMEN. RESPECT!!!
That is one of the most incredible stories I have ever heard! Just beautiful
I remember seeing this school when their football team got the same support from a different fanbase. It was pretty school.
KWCline91 aren't they making a movie on that
PHX Master not sure
2:34 Kudos for that ending!

Cuz girls basketball is boring to watch
You do it for the love of the game. That's the truest sportsmanship there is.
That is horrible! You young ladies on the girls' basketball team work just as hard as the boys do.
You deserve the same amount of support as the boys basketball team has at their games!
What an extremely brainless statement to make!
"This is how sport should be"
Spoken like a real sportsman.
Two such special young men. Heroes.
Steve Hartman has done it again!
They're going to be somebody one day great job well done brother's
now that was awesome that made my day we have some love in the air....
Our junior high team girls play their team and most have good sportsmanship
Those young men have a good heart
Right, it is not win or loss...for this? it's the humility that counts...Bravo from Siam. My respects to all
11:45 at night and there is someone cutting onions in the room. This was so beautiful
@Craig and proud of it
This is so sweet and real sad the other team family, friends and school do not support their players. I work 40-60 hours my daughter was in the band, I chaperone the band wherever they went. It’s no excuse for these kids not to have support.

It always amazes me how beyond their years the kids in these stories are.
Beautiful! What an awesome story. I didn’t cry … but I almost did.
This is such a act of kindness
These two young men are the essence of good sportsmanship.😀😁😃😄😆😎😊🙂🤗😇
That’s so special that they would do this for the other team, especially as ten other team was obviously full of ppl who had challenging backgrounds and times
Killing me Steve!!! 😢😢😢❤️❤️❤️❤️
True sportsmanship well done boys xx
I had to watch it in school so I'm now adding it to my lik every Tim playlist
This is really awesome!
seriously class act! The pros could learn so much for these young men.
I go to college with the boy in the green shirt. He’s honestly one of the nicest people on campus without a doubt.
I'm crying like a baby! That's so great!
Steve Hartman is the best.
I wish media did less stories to stoke racial tensions and more stories like this.
These students at Vanguard Prep are a testimony to the quality of that school.
A real example of good sportsmanship
Really a very stupid statement, Gavin! Really nice to support your schoolmates. NOT!
Oh no.....this made me cry :(
👁👁 GREAT MOVE YOUNG MEN GREAT MOVE🙏 PRICELESS IT'LL BE A BETTER WORLD IF MORE PEOPLE WAS THINKING THIS WAY 🙏 MUCH MUCH RESPECT
This is beautiful and a blessing ❤️
I've often wondered what would happen if one of the major networks would run 30 minutes of these kind of stories once a week. That's news I would make a point to watch.
Kids do amazing things, out of good hearts❤❤
I love this story!! Imagine if only 50% of the world could do what these young men did on that day, how much better of a place we would all be in. awesome... never underestimate young people!!
Steve Hartman making me tear up
I wish everyone was like this.
Hopefully these guys can get their lives together and continue to have fun playing basketball.
So I wanna know, did Gainesville win that game? It sure seems like they did from the editing at least.
They didn't have time! That is so SAD that his parents couldn't find their precious time to come to their son's basketball games.
It's sad when judgement is passed without having all the facts to make an informed assessment. In fact - it's sad when the predilection to judge at all is so gleefully indulged.
AWESOME...THIS GOES WELL BEYOND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP!
I NEED TO GOD DAMN KNOW WHO WON
Xbox Owner I know right
scorestream.com/game/gainesville-state-vs-vanguard-college-prep-193083
Lil late sorry
Jouy lmao little late (I’m late too so it’s ok)
No - you don't need to know who won.
Just want to point out that juvenile team's lack of attendance is directly related to why they got in trouble in the first place.. lack of support. its sad bro
AmaZING STORY ❣️‼️
Thats wassup!! We all make mistakes and we all deserve to be LOVED !! GREAT JOB BOYS !! GOD BLESS YOU !!
There’s still some hope left in this country
i bet those kids dont even start
Hexer so you are taking a good thing they did and you are putting them down... Go get a life and stop hating
Final score
Viking 67
Tornados 33
Who cares who won or lost????
That was great sportsmanship by Vanguard College Prep's players and fans! Gainesville probably has NEVER had that much fan support ever!
You will never know what that simple gesture meant to.those young men. An example of what can be may help to change their lives for the better.
I don't watch TV, especially lame stream media. This show however is an exception. Rare inspiration from network TV.
Now that's sportsmanship.
Who loved the lord hit the like button
I like ❤
So sad😢
Oh my gosh I am crying
True sportsmanship. This is what rehabilitation should look like. Accepting their mistakes for whatever they are and encouraging them to do better. Our incarceration policies by far are lagging in true rehabilitation.
I’m ugly crying at work right now... send help
