Awesome video. Informative and straight to the point! Going to give this a whirl on a 2016 Passat today.
Thanks! I hope it goes well
@@EuropeanAutoRepairchasing down a hefty oil consumption issue and misfires on my buddies 2014 Jetta 1.8. I suspect a ring issue but wanted to leave no stone unturned. #1 cylinder wet with oil. The others looked decent. Great compression on all 4 cylinders. ~175 psi. Looks like the misfire codes are due to fouled spark plugs. Any thoughts before I start changing spark plugs weekly? 😂
@@davidhoneycutt1965Yo bro make sure you get the rhoduim spark plugs expensive but they "RUN AND WIRK BETTER" MISFIRES AFTER 2 WEEKS WITH KNOCK OFF UGK PLUGS
If that tears, could it cause some oil consumption? And are there any good ways to diagnose that part? Thank you!
Yes it can cause excessive consumption, check for high vacuum and oil filler cap with engine running
Does the oil separator can cause excessive oil consumption? I took the intake hose on the turbo and there is oil in the inrake side my problemtnis excessive oil consumption like a quart or more a week… drive it 30miles to work daily… no codes no oil leak no smoke I appreciate any info
It can cause excessive consumption but likely not the cause, could be a piston ring issue or even the turbocharger. Oil separator is cheapest easiest thing to replace that may help with issue
Ok thanks Also the EPC light comes on from time to time I search the internet and saw your video I will scan it for codes the check engine light never came on
@@laul2091 Did you ever figure out what was causing the EPC light to come on. I have had this happen several times to my 2015 Sportwagen TSI (109k miles) along with a misfire. VW is telling me it needs a new motor. Oil getting by the piston rings. Last time I buy a VW.
Thanks for sharing this video. Could you tell me if the aftermarket oil seperators work or would you recommend OEM only here? I have a relative with this car and its using oil, no CELs on and it runs great. After reading many forums I keep thinking this is the problem most likely.
I personally try to go with the factory separator when I can being that I’ve had some issues in the past with aftermarket ones and the factory part number updated several times but you will likely be ok with aftermarket
@@EuropeanAutoRepair thanks for the reply. From your experience do you have a particular oil you like to use in these engines after replacing the seperator?
Perfect Video! Short and to the point. It was a great help, thank you.
Have a 2014 Jetta 1.8T and I just got a P2188 (to rich at idle) code. I just had a P0011 for the VVT magnet. The P0011 is now gone but could this lead to the new 2188? I’m just trying to figure it out. Thanks
im gonna give this a shot, my dip stick was a vacuum and would cause the car to boggle when i took it out and put it back in
I have the same problem so it’s not normal?
It's normal
Could the PCV cause oil burning? I’m having trouble diagnosing the oil burning from my 2016 passat
yes, they tend to fail and cause increased oil consumption
@@moonchild3706 My German car Automechanic is replacing mine today due to excessive oil consumption on the exact same model.
@@lonestarskywatcher6279 sounds about right, luckily it’s not hard to replace or expensive to obtain
What is the name of that hose you "Pried up and off" in the back? I think I need to replace that as well
Pcv breather hose should bring it up
What lead you to this was it a code or burning oil what made you pick that?
I can’t remember the cause on that particular car, likely mixture faults and rough idle
@@EuropeanAutoRepair gotcha, mine is getting a rough idle from time to time and acts like it wants to push past the brakes. Restarting fixes the issue, never throws codes. I have it hooks to my Autel mk808 and watch it on the active monitoring and can’t see anything. It has to be something minor was thinking maybe pcv or vvt. Kinda throwing things at it, may also change plugs, coils but if it was any of those you would think it would be more consistent.
I have a 2014 Seat Leon 1.8T with more than 200'000km on it. It's the same engine as in the video. I replaced the oil separator and there's still a suction when I remove the oil cap. Is this normal? Some say it's normal and some say it's not.
It should have suction at the oil cap while idling, just not a excessive amount, if you aren’t having any faults or drivability concerns it’s likely ok
Oil separator van cause engine oil gone?
Would the pvc failure cause the EPC light to come on?
It could, have you scanned it yet?
Thank you
Would this contribute to my sparks plugs fouling out?
I have this question also
Not likely contributing to a fouling problem, more commonly carbon deposits on intake valves cause that on these models
Will this work on a 2016 Jetta SEL 1.8T
EPC light comes on often
yes
Will this cause my 2016 Jetta to keep losing oil but no leak?
I've got the same issue RN with my passat
@@dabone6987 it sucks im gonna try changing this and see if it works but im losing a quart every 500-750 miles smh
@@felixalicea9326 sorry to hear. I wish you the best of luck.
Excellent, thank you.
Thank you for watching
Pcv all part of this oil separator?
That is the pcv valve right?
Could this cause oil leaking I have a 2014 Jetta?
Sometimes they leak from the seal, if it’s wet with oil around the perimeter of the unit that might be what you have going on
Great Video,🤜💯
Perfect! Thanks man!
No problem!
my jetta is consuming about a half a Quart of oil every month...have to keep adding and constantly checking it... can this be a sign of a dirty PCV valve ? ..🔍
Possible, what year and engine does it have?
@@EuropeanAutoRepair Jetta SE 1.8T 2014 (Stick Shift)
A lot of times on these just due to the piston ring design they go through quickly. I've seen turbochargers and oil separators cause this but it's less common
My 2014 Jetta 1.8 burns oil and according to a mechanic, there is oil getting in my combustion chamber, can this part being bad cause that?
It can cause excessive oil consumption, could also be turbo or ring issue, this is likely the cheapest part that could cause issue might not be a bad place to start
@@EuropeanAutoRepairCan you just replace the diaphragm? Or are there other parts in this unit that go bad?
@@Solamia7 definitely other parts in the separator that can fail but the diaphragm is typically what happens, you can always replace the diaphragm and cover and see how it does, worst case you will end up replacing the assembly anyway
This is probably user error, but I can’t get the electrical connecters that go to the coils to unlock
Sometimes sneaking a small 90 degrees pick under the latch on the plug and releasing it that way works well
Thanks for fukin showing how to remove those coil plugs, so fukin helpful
I had to use a angle grinder to flatten down a 10mm open ended wrench to be able to slide it between the connector and the base to get to the bottom nut. From there just hold the bottom and unscrew the top nut.
Would I need any new gaskets?
Nope, the new oil separator will have the seal on it
@@EuropeanAutoRepair Thank you sir!
Deberías de decir el porqué de el remplazo que fallas hacia ????
En mi jetta se escuchaba un silvido, se sentia hasta adentro de la cabina.
Could this cause for low oil pressure?
Ive seen them cause low oil pressure before
How often does this need to be replaced?
It really depends, usually I see it before 100k but it’s just replaced when it fails
part # for a 2016 jetta 1.8t pcv ?
Thx doing this on 2014 Jetta
I swapped it out now I have to see if oil stops burimg etc
Hope it helps
@@teknykill did this fix your oil consumption? I go through a quart of oil every 500 miles!
So far oil has stayed smae level for two weeks now before I would put a qt
Me too what is your car doing
Does this work in the Jetta 2017 se?
Should be about the same if I remember right
What’s the reason?
I don’t remember on this particular car but it was likely a excessive crankcase vacuum issue
Thank you
Man I can't take the fukin pump plug out. What should I do?
Question how did you know that part went bad what was your car doing
It was pulling high vacuum on the crankcase, slightly rough idle, lean running fault
@@EuropeanAutoRepair exactly what’s happening to my Audi A4 right now
my car is misfiring and take too long for the engine to get hot in morning and i changed the spark plugs and coil is good to so do i have to change this
I would scan it and see what kind of faults you have stored, a few other things can cause those symptoms
Mine was a t-25
Ahh I may have misspoken
So is not that hard
Nope
