This is refreshing. Most of the narcissism literature I’ve seen is condemning and accusing others (esp our partners or family) to be narcissists. This is the first I’ve seen where we acknowledge that we may all be narcissistic to an extent, which I think is a way more holistic view and understanding.

Most RUclipsrs are playing to the masses. They don't encourage you to accept responsibility for your own actions. Rather they want you to blame the "evil" narcissist. Unfortunately, if you feel you've been a victim of a narcissist, then you must look carefully at the patterns and where you fell victim. These will almost always lead you back to your own inner needs, and where you yourself need to focus with self exploration. I love that he takes us in that direction. He shows us our responses are normal and that we can heal and get off the narcissist merry go round. Becoming aware of, and understanding of your "shadow self" should be on everyone's bucket list. After listening to this presentation, I'm looking forward to this journey. He not NOT disappoint.

This is brilliant! I am deeply religious but my attachment to my God keeps me grounded. YES!…We all have narcissistic tendencies on a spectrum as you mentioned. If we look beyond ourselves or the “horizontal” or the “terrestial” there is more profound meaning in life. Personally my God teaches me to not only love Him but to love my fellow man as myself. Which means then there has to be a healthy love of ones self. This has served as a guide in my life! I am an empath but because of empath struggles sometimes I’ve seen the spectrum of my narcissistic nature increase. However, when I focus upward or “transcend” to focus on matters bigger and more important than me, it keeps me grounded. However, during the times of struggle and I begin to self-reflect, it was really concerning to see the narcissistic characteristics which would lead me to self condemnation. I really appreciate how you defined the difference between diagnosed or malignant NPD and narcissism on a spectrum. Any of us can go into the more severe form narcissism if we lose touch with our self awareness and especially if we ignore the guidance that we receive from our Creator. Thank you so much for this!! 🙏😌.

Thank you for this thoughtful and refreshing shift in perspective from all the blaming & shaming we see all over YT and the internet generally - very much in line with the judgement you spoke of in the beginning. Your observations really chime with my own experiences as well as material that I have been sitting (and sometimes wrestling with) for the last decade, ever since I came across the work of Henry Corbin and his insights into mystical forms of Islam like Sufism. Where I think things become particularly interesting are the conversations he had with Jung and ultimately, their fundamental differences, which I think you hint at in your image of the cross. I think if we are to find 'the north pole' as he puts it, we have to abandon the psychological model itself, because it is also a form of narcissism that cuts us off from the world, which is sacred. We have just forgotten this because, thanks to scientific materialism, we have thrown aside the cosmology that enables us to access the vertical dimensions of reality/being. I look forward to your next installment.

Thanks for that, Dr. Saad. The spiritual dimension of narcissism is often overlooked but the psyche means "soul" so we need to consider the invisible element of people's visible behaviour.
God created Man in His image but narcissism is man creating his image as God. The Bible says God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble so like Satan, Narcissus fell when he became obsessed by his own impressive reflection forgetting His Eternal Father who gave it to him. This psychologist is one of the best in the social media. He is capable see things through a humble intellect way that most people still caught up in their own hatered and anger and fear of see things only from their own little narrow way. Lots of people got narcissists abuse think they are “ pure victim “, instead of learn about themselves, to learn themselves has so much trauma needs to heal in order not to attract these kind of people. And they don’t want to see the reality that almost half of the humanity are narcissistic or real narcissists, another half of the humanity are broken codependent empath which they also has some narcissistic traits in them as well. Not all narcissistic people are full scale of narcissists, that means lots of narcissistic people do show some levels of light in their behaviors and as a person, and those codependent people do show some levels of darkness which is narcissistic behaviors, such as: manipulation ( use caring, giving to assert their control), jealousy ( hate other people has better life), huge ego of they can “ fix” a narcissist which they failed every single time only to learn narcissist is a evil person but never accept themselves is extremely unhealthy and broken as well. The whole humanity is made by two dynamics: narcissistic and empath ( the problem is these empath mostly all become codependent), you hate any other person, only means you are spiritually deeply sleeping, you think you have no wrong but only a narcissist, but to forgot darkness is in each of us, and light is in each of us, it just matter some people has more darkness and some people has lesser. In the end, all souls and life beings goes back to be one consciousness, so you hate someone only means you hate yourself. The whole narcissism is the spiritual warfare, people like malignant narcissists are the people totally lost their soul and they are suffering from their own problems by making others suffering. All you need to do is leave these people alone, if you become emotionally healthy, you will never feel attracted to these people. Let them go through their own karmas, most of time those very highly narcissistic people need to take many life reincarnation to get it back to a lighter soul. It is NOT your job to change them or fix them, it is your job to learn about yourself through the pain and hurt they caused to you. I have my full respect to this psychologist, he speaking from a right mind state, he speaks with pure understanding of both human dynamics, he doesn’t add any unnecessary emotions in his talk, and very grounded and very good information.

I was and often still are in that state myself. Hope you will tell more about how to do shadow work safely. Transcendent love from the Netherlands!

I have Narcissistic traits but I'm glad of them because they have helped me set boundaries and stand firm against manipulations of family members, and people that I work with.
I know that my default setting is tolerance, giving another chance, kindness, giving, etc but I'm aware that it can become pathological in certain circumstances, so my Narcissistic traits allow me to put myself first as required and not allow myself to be trampled on.
When I was growing up with a Narcissist mother, trying to get along with her and have my needs met, I was conditioned to think like her in very black and white terms. Yes, it was judgemental and intolerant. She was judgemental and intolerant, critical and antagonistic.
In early adulthood, I first felt the courage to be myself, and fought against those judgemental mental ruts, until they weren't my conditioned default setting anymore.
As a child, the influence of a Narcissist mother caused me to feel contempt for anyone who liked me and want to treat them badly.
    How disordered is that?
That was how she treated me from earliest memory.
I had low self-worth because of her abuses, but I knew that I didn't want to feel contempt for others who liked me. I had to work for many years to undo that conditioned response.
Empathy is part of God's character, and I love that about Him. I like that He's given me the ability to feel empathy. The Narcissist's internal landscape must be bleak, desolate and icey cold.

Thank you so much. After a break up I have been on quite a trip into narcissism, confused at whether myself or my ex partner displayed narcissism or not.. really the core of the ego is narcissistic, we are all blessed in this life with an ego to experience the world, since we have an ego its clear that we all have a tendency towards narcissism. This is a relief for those like myself worried if they might BE a narcissist. And I think those on the spiritual path, as they become more and more aware of their shadow, can increasingly suffer as the ego begins to define itself by the newly identified shadow.. it feeds off it! Thank you again for this video

the world, the sense of it all, and spirituality. I have no certainty, but my faith has added a dimension to my life. Thank you very much

Things I learned the hard way: People regularly project spiritual attainment and authority onto "holy men." In doing so, we relinquish our own spiritual agency. Problems worsen when many of these holy men turn out to be charlatans and narcissists, only interested in attaining personal power and prestige. When we recognize and learn to manage our own narcissistic traits, and stop projecting our spiritual self onto others, we integrate and become more whole ourselves. We can become "wholey-men!" Haha. Thank you so much for this enlightening talk. I look forward to the future installments.

When I was 20 I was deeply One with Christ. I was a member of a church. The Holy Spirit started revealing to me how phony and fake the entire fundamentalist trip was. I told my roommate whose Grandfather was " Hoover " who invented Hoover vaccum cleaners thus very wealthy " people who rely on the preacher too much are spiritual cripples ". Well he told his rich mother who gave a lot of her money to this evangelistic Preyspterian church in Boca Raton. The next thing I knew I was thrown out of the church. Jesus Christ would of burned that money grubbing egotistical box to the ground! Christianity is controlled by Satan . It has Nothing to do with CHRIST and what He taught. I'm very thankful I found this man an this channel!!!

This horizontalized, terrestrial way of life has created all sorts of ersatz religion, politics for example, because man is created with a need to worship. Like Bob Dylan wrote, “You gotta serve somebody.”

      Actually Bob was paraphrasing Jesus:
Matthew 6:24 (ESV): No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

"For the body is a domestic animal. Therefore, you must go about perfecting yourself." Jesus as quoted in The Book of Thomas the Contender. Authentic humility is a must for success with such self-actualization. Knowing that your awareness resides in a primate's body can shift the paradigm and help with self-reflection. Thank you for sharing your wisdom I am about to watch Part 2.

Well put. The authors of 'Hold on to Your Kids' would phrase it as 'Parent-orientation' vs. 'Peer-orientation.' (Horizontal vs. Vertical.) We're wired for hierarchy in relationship, even if we don't like to think so, so we'll create a hierarchy if no clear one exists. Or if we refuse to acknowledge one that exists. This confirms some things I've been pondering lately, which is encouraging! Thanks!

I am so happy not only that you have returned to us, but that you are promoting your deep insights into narcissism to the next (spiritual) level. The malaise that now consumes most of us (narcissistically) "rational" beings (and virtually destroys the irrational ones) has produced such astounding cognitive dissonance, that we cannot understand why the world seems to have developed a collective death wish (thanatos). I think you are onto something by locating narcissism (cultural or personal) along a spectrum, and I agree with your observations about the dangerous "flattening" of our relationship to the vertical axis of transcendance. I hope that in the coming sessions you will tease out why we (especially in Western cultures) are so depressed that we wish to destroy Nature, and thus what we can do about it - as individuals, who may not have activist instincts or political power.
