Rented a 330, and decided NOT to buy a BMW because of this feature. The amount of abuse this constant starting and stopping does to the ignition system and engine internals is significant, despite what they say.

I only use it if I'm in a traffic jam and there's a long wait between starts. But otherwise I deactivate it. It can even be dangerous if something happens to you and you have to get out of the way very quickly.
That's why it's good older bmws have a straightforward button right next to the engine starter, not like modern models - you have to click through the system :)
I don’t know, my car’s engine stop before getting operating temperature, even in the morning just after 500 m drive. Also some time it goes to park when put gas pedal, so have to shift manually to drive . 2012 f10
Frequent start-stop will accelerate the aging of your engine or any engine. Therefore, large engines such as trains, cruise ships, airplanes won't shut off their engines if they are departing in half an hour or longer!
We will need your car's VIN, as different models have this option in different places. Also in some vehicles it is possible to turn it off by pressing the off button which is next to the start/stop button. The engine won't stop after i reversed onto my driveway and came to a stop I've sat waiting for my girlfriend to come out the house and the engine wont turn off and ive been stationary for a long time ... 😒

Did I damage the motor? Please help. I forgot to press the A button while the car was in park. At a red light, I pressed it, while in drive, but my foot was on the break petal. I then pressed the gas petal and the car turned off. I panicked and looked at the dash and it showed that it has to be in park to activate the A function. I quickly put it in park and pressed the start button, then put it in drive and took off. Did I cause any damage to the car? Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you 🙏.
Nice Video. It's worth to keep disable to avoid starter and battery healthy. Frequent start stop annoying at Traffic light and sudden jerk to start.
48V Hybrid models dont jerk they are seemless.

Yes my Jeep Cherokee shuts off at red lights and stop signs and won't restart sometimes. I think this is why! Thanks! 👍🏿 🚗 🔋 🗝️ 🛢️ ⛽ 🔧

The E30 back in my days didn't have such features. Its engine stopped during operation only if out of fuel or broken.

@bimmer-tech cam this feature make me stall when i am on red ligths and try to move off quickly because thats what i think it does to me
Yes, the Start-Stop system can make you stall suddenly, but when u disable it, the problem disappears :D

This looks like you have the adaptive cruise control on. Try to to turn it off and then it should not react to the car in front of you.

the only real wear is the starter motor and turbo (since turbos are oil cooled some are both)

Start-stop doesn't work when the engine is not heated up. Is this an issue or it ceases to operate randomly?

M series vehicles still have a button to disable Auto Start Stop (ASS). Confirmed in my 2022 X5M Comp.

Why does it stop engine completely and goes into park when you stop at stop sign or on light?

It is not necessarily bad for your car but it might make certain parts (engine, starter etc.) “age” faster.

Why does it go into park on auto start ?
it shouldn't do that. If it happens to you, you should contact your dealership
