    Ravenna and Venice may be two different places in different regions, but both have unique charm and fascinating history. However, if you have extra time before your cruise and you need to relax, I suggest spending a few days at the beach. We stayed at the Hotel Eliseo in Igea Marina, a very nice family-run beachfront hotel with a comfortable atmosphere that exceeded our expectations. The relaxation we experienced was incredible, and the food was simply divine. We also had a fantastic time exploring Fellini's museum and the ancient Tiberius Bridge in Rimini-it was a delightful surprise! Plus, the hotel was super helpful and arranged a transfer directly to the cruise terminal in Ravenna, which is just about an hour away. It made the whole experience so convenient and stress-free! Enjoy your trip!

    Hello Thia,
    Can you provide specific link-up details on catching the Royal Caribbean shuttle at Tronchetto. Will be coming in by taxi from Venice
    Thanks!
    Thanks!

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  11 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, this is something you have to call Royal Caribbean and set up. It is not on their website, but it is very easy to do. I do know that at Tronchetto is a Vaporetto Stop. Water Taxies are very expensive but the Vaporetto can be very convenient. We lucked out and got an actual car taxi but they are not common in Venice. It is a fabulous trip!

    This is our dilemma...cruising on 9/06 out of Ravenna thru Celebrity... Celebrity Agent says, we can't booked a transfer if our flights not on same day? What is the shuttle at Tronchetto ? Is that by Celebrity? where and how can I book ? Thank you so much for your great tips!

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  11 месяцев назад

      You need to call Celebrity and check with them. I cruised Royal but since they are sister companies I assume they do the same thing. I would normally call and check for you but I am on a cruise and don’t have cell service. Let me know what you find out. We went the exact date last year. You will love it. If you need packing tips, I did a video on how I packed for this trip. We were in Europe for almost a months and I took only carry on.

    hi Thia, than you for the info, so helpful! if we take the train from Venice to Ravenna with transfer at ferrara it says we have 7 minutes to transfer, is that doable? you mention its a small station, we just dont want to miss the next train.. and is 1pm a good time to arrive at Ravenna? or should we pick an earlier train.

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  5 месяцев назад +1

      You are so welcome! I did not take the train from Venice. We came from Bologna, but I would think it would be. They changed tracks on us in Bologna which from my understanding is larger station and we were able to easily change.
      A 1:00 arrival seems fine. The ship leaves late. I would just make sure you have 2-3 backup trains.

    Help! I will be traveling with my two teenage daughters this weekend on Royal Car. Voyager of the Seas. I have questions about the transfers. We end in Ravenna, Italy. I am tempted to book the transfer with Royal, but because we are staying 2 extra days in Venice I don't want to be the last person off the ship because we don't have a plane to catch. Can I catch any shuttle to the train station if I self disembark or will they shuttle people based on their flight reservations? I don't want to get stuck on the ship because we don't have a plane to catch. Are there shuttles besides Royal's buses? I would like to leave the ship as early as possible. Do I gamble finding a ride to the train station myself? Without knowing what time I'll get there, I'm unable to purchase train tickets in advance.
    Secondly, I'm guessing the best way to get from Athens to the cruise port in Greece (Piraeus). I've read about buses, trains, etc. Worst case scenario we take a taxi. We arrive in Greece at 8:20AM. Ideally, we would like to see the Parthenon, Acropolis and the Plaka. Am I fooling myself to get these in before we need to be at our ship by 3PM?? I have been told we need to go to the ship first and then head to town for sightseeing afterward. We can check in as early as 12:30PM. Is that really the earliest? In my prior experience you another cruise line we were able to check in much earlier. Or is it possible to leave the airport, see the sights and then head to the cruise ship. That scenario doesn't seem suitable because we will still have our luggage. Ugghh!

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  8 месяцев назад

      You are going to LOVE this Cruise. I know it is stressful right now. As for getting an early transfer you can talk to guest services and see if you can get the earliest transfer. I gather you will be transferring to Tronchetto since your flight isn't for a few days. I would definitely not count on a taxi if you want to go outside of Royal I would arrange it all in advance. The train is easy but I don't think it will afford you much time savings over the transfer. For purchasing train tickets, I like the Trainline app.
      I have never boarded a cruise in Athens, but I would look into a private tour company. The one we used we had a van with a driver and a guide. The driver could keep your luggage and the guide got us through the crowds faster. We used Athens Tours.

    With my husband we will arrive at the Bologna airport one day before the Royal Caribbean departure. I have tried to understand how to get to Ravenna by train but some say it takes 5 hours and others 1 and a half hours. It is necessary to buy the tickets before or on the same day. we will arrive? Once in Ravenna, which hotel do you suggest I stay in so I can get to the Corsini port and with what means of transportation? thank you very much for all your tips

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  7 месяцев назад

      The train was easy and quick from Bologna. I stayed in Bologna so I can’t recommend a hotel. But your options to get to the port are take the cruise line shuttle, the city bus, or the transfer the town has arranged.

    We are doing cruise out of Ravenna in July and will fly into Bologna, does Royal just do a bus transfer from Ravenna to the port, as we will be traveling around Italy. We are taking trains from Venice, to Bologna and then I have seen videos of just buses from Ravenna.

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  10 месяцев назад

      Your choices are to either fake a flight and catch Royal Caribbean’s shuttle from the airport. Take a train from Bologna to Ravenna and then you can either take the city bus or the Royal Caribbean shuttle from Ravenna to the port. We took the train and it was very easy. We took the shuttle. If you book the shuttle in advance make sure to have your documentation ready to show before boarding the bus.

    What time were you in the port and able to get off the ship to get the train to Venice? We are trying to book airline home and don’t know if we will be able to fly out the same day due to how long it takes to get to Venice.

    • @travelingwiththia
      @travelingwiththia  10 месяцев назад

      I would call your cruise line and find out when their first shuttle is to the train station. And then check the train app for times. Or I would probably just book the cruise lines shuttle to the airport. We stayed in Venice and took a Uniworld cruise around the Venice Lagoon.

    Thanks Thia, your advice is concise and spot on. Will take it when we have time to go. Why go to Ravenna? To see the Mosaics of the Greatest Roman Emperor of Rome since antiquity, Justinian and his wife Thordora. Goggle says. The Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy features two mosaics depicting Emperor Justinian and Empress Theodora. The mosaics are located on either side of the main apse and depict Justinian and Theodora offering a chalice and paten to the church. Its the early middle ages looking down at you. He built the Hagia Sophia the great church in Constantinople. It had the largest dome in the world for a thousand years till St Peters eclipsed it and is the high point of a visit to Istanbul. The empress Theodora was one of the greatest women of all time and few are aware of her. She was Evita on steroids. She rose herself up from abject poverty, working as an entertainer and an courtesan, to become the power behind the Greatest emperor of Rome since antiquity. There was serious rioting in Constantinople and the emperor was going to flee. She shamed him into staying by saying, as for me, I will stay, I will not give up the purple and if necessary they will bury me in it. What a woman. What a person. Her life is in the book called the Secret Histories and should be read by everyone. When your in Ravenna you will see her in all her glory, with her court, looking down at you.

      @@travelingwiththia Thanks Thia, Even though I was a tax litigation attorney my undergrad major was Ancient History and like you have traveled extensively all over the world many times. So if you are going anywhere let me know and Il see if there is something you should go to when you are there. I promise. Great Story. Way back when, when I was an internaitional airline courier for DHL (part time of course). I dropped off my bags in London and though jet lagged I made a bee line for the British Museum. This was in the early 80s before all the stringent security measure had been enacted everywhere. I was walking around and was tired. so I stopped and put my hand on a big rock to shake out the cobwebs. (You know about jet lag). One of the guards, asked me, do you know what you are doing?? I just looked at him quizzically. He smiled and said you are leaning up against the Rosetta Stone!!! LOL, Some things you never forget like going down into the tombs in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. especially King Tuts tomb. Something you have to do but never in the Summer, its way too hot, only in the off season. They have a sound and light show at the Pyramids and you must go there before you see them the next day. At that the Pyramid complex is amazing in the day or night. The Taj Mahal. Its called the Taj Mahal because Shah Jehan's wifes name was Mumtaz Mahal. Its a totally visual thing. there is little of interest inside., as I remember, other than the sarcophaguses of him and his wife.. You go there the night before to see the interplay of the clouds and setting sun on the Taj. Amazing and in the morning for the same reason. But do not go there in the Summer. You can get sunstroke waiting in the lone lines of tourists and it smells because every one is sweating. Go in the off season for sure.
