- Wamplers Triple Wreck, amp-in-a-box. More distortion than is healthy for a young man (or young woman). Lots and lots of gain, plus a very well implemented EQ and contour control. If you watch closely, you can see that Rich actually grows some more hair during this review.

I understand you thought process on this, but with the demos we already have (in particular Ola's, Keith's and Fred's), the metal side of it has been done, completely. Not all high gain users are metal heads (for example, David Gilmour's lead tone) - I thought it was great to hear a different side of the pedal with the realization that it is versatile and not just for metal. :)
I would definitely try that VR1 as a second mic, but have always found that a dynamic mic is necessary to capture the body of the sound properly. Mostly a 57, sometimes a 421 or 441, I carry a 609 and a EV N/D468 too. They all have their own characters and respond differently to different speakers also! In my mind it's because a dynamic is essentially a speaker in reverse that allows the movement of the speaker to translate accurately in the recording, or summfink..
(Part 1) I would use the clean channel on a Fender amp because that's a much more familiar tone than that hybrid / hotrodded Vox- not that we get to hear the Vox's clean sound in the demo.. I would probably use a SM57 or a 57 + a Royer or Beyer ribbon mic. That SE might be a good mic, but unfamiliar to most people. If you believe any mic is "almost flat" you are kidding yourself, they all have their own characteristics in terms of transient as well as measured frequency response.
What amp and mic combo would you use? The voodoo VR1 has almost a flat frequency range and is the sort of mic you would use in the studio , if your referring to look then yes it is funny. As for the amp he explains the choice in the video plus the cone's sensitivity is rated at i think ±1dB which is pretty good for a guitar amp, Thus giving the final sound as flat a sound as possible so when the pedal is used you hear the pedal and not the qualities of the amp or mic.
I can't get the gain past 3 without it squealing. Is this normal?
I agree while single coils are a good test of how much gain, not many people are gonna use a strat with sc's style pickup and even less a hollowbody gretsch with a Mesa Triple Rectifier (which this is based on soundwise). Some higher output HBs in a bolt on neck guitar (like a superstrat or something) would make more sense to me
Well I definitely would. Good luck.

Good demo. Good video comments. The WTW is not simply a single stage JFET with EQ. The box is big and all of the internal space is used. This is an extremely complicated and well executed pedal. Mine is certainly staying on my pedalboard.
I know what a Strat is, that isn't one and I still don't know what the pickups in it are. Who says that SE is "fast becoming the best guitar mic in the industry"? It's certainly news to me (after 20 years+ in it)! I would estimate that about 50% of all electric guitar recordings are made with a 57 and another mic together (ribbon or LDC).
Hard setting sound Brian May like :)
It helps if you don't suck at playing guitar.
You should be demo'ng lip stick
Sounds like a fuzz pedal .
Funny guitar, funny amp, funny mic.
The Gretsch and that mix didn't work at all!!
Actually, make that 75%.
you definitely creep me out dude.
Vox+Single coil=Metal??? What is wrong with you?!
waaaaaat is wrong with you? :D
piiiiiis dich :D
Scher dich zum Teufel }:-(
metal can be played in every f*cking kind of guitar.....with the correct pedal and amp
Wouldn't say its a funny amp or a funny mic.
