Sam an old man taught me a secret to making snap ring pliers work better. Take a mini file and file a grove just below the end of the pins. It helps stop them from slipping. God bless
Hey Sam. Love your videos. Just wondering if you ever do q&a's for folks like me wanting to start a business? Just had some questions about how you and your dad operate and some tips about getting started in forestry. Thanks!
Very informative as always. If you end up with extra parts when you put something together some times it ends up being an oops. I’ve been there before lol. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.
Where are you getting your transmissions transfer cases petals and swap parts I have a 94 2500 I’m looking for an NV 4500 I need everything for the swap do you have anything for sale or can you steer me in the right direction thank you I live here in Merced California
There is another thing to be aware of. Some input shafts take a thinner bearing and most take a thicker bearing. The transfer case is the same for both and you can use either bearing with the transfer case. But it’s good to know what one you have when ordering. If you have a thin bearing I would just order an input shaft and bearing for the thicker one.
Just an FYI the 271 tc out of a 3rd Gen does just fit in between the tails of a second gen I’ve done it on mine Now would I do it again no but if u have one and it works it would fit
Do your self a favor if you have the tc apart and change the seal or o ring on the shift shaft . I had my transfer case overhauled but apparently they forgot to chage it . A leak around the shifter that winds up on the bottom of the case .
The 1998 to 2002 have a different shift pattern than the 1994 to 1997. Also if it doesn't have the port for the vaccum it's for a 2002. The 2002 trucks were the only 2nd gens that dont have vaccum 4wd the drive shaft spins all the time like a 3rd gen.
On the 04 do the doors all unlock once you take the key out? My 05 will auto lock when you start driving but it doesn’t unlock them when you shut it off lol
Hey, huge fam of the channel. I do welding and general building and have been getting ready to start my own channel. I am curious about your camera setup and video editing software; mind if you share?
Definitely a short throw shifter. I had a BD one on my NV4500, never had a positive engagement feel with it. Just a note on the NP271 and a 2nd gen, they will fit without cutting, just not on an NV4500. I'm running one behind a G56 on my '98, and the outside of it just starts to enter the c-channel on the frame. Because the 4500 is shorter, it would interfere where the frame is boxed. But since it doesn't have the vacuum switch or a speedo pickup, it wouldn't be good for your earlier 2nd gen. I've got locking hubs on mine, so no need for the CAD, and the speedo is from the RABS sensor.
@@VBELTandSON You can press the inner needle bearing out from the input spline side -- there is a welch plug that seals the transfer case fluid from the transmission. To replace the bearing press the welch plug in first, then press the bearing in.
I like the sound of going heavy duty with anything. Nice to see what's inside the t case.
You need to be my neighbor, I got 2 sick tractors. One has transmission problems. The others a Ford and that says it all. Lol. Great video. 👍🏻
Just graduated 8th grade. Can wait to be doing what your doing.

You gotta love doing ball joints 😅 I have no idea how many I did in my live.....🙈
We wouldn't have to replace as many if the fucking junks weren't MADE IN CHINA !!!!
Nice work, not just everybody can do that!!!! And not have left over parts!!!

Looks like a shifter from a dodge Dakota about a 90-97?
I have a 06 with a 48RE and I’m considering this swap on mine also. Do you also have to swap out the ECM?
Nice job, lots of info on that. Great video👍
Thinks Sam. LOVE THIS VIDEO. GOD BLESS Y'ALL
i've used almost every brand of retaining ring pliers under the sun and love knipex.
Can’t wait to see how the ol gal turns out.

Looks like a NV5600 shifter from out of your 96??
You will need the plug out of the other shaft as well . The bearing and freeze style plug needs to be ther or it will share fluid with the trans
Yup glad I just went with the old used shaft hah
Good vid!
Is the output shaft seal on the transmission easy to replace after getting the xfer case out?
Very easy to replace
@@VBELTandSON Thanks!
Nice work my friend 😎👌

What did you do so you could shift the transfer case into 4x4?
Just an FYI the 271 tc out of a 3rd Gen does just fit in between the tails of a second gen
I’ve done it on mine
Now would I do it again no but if u have one and it works it would fit
Hmm mine is a 273🤷🏼♂️
Great video I really enjoyed this 🇺🇲💯
Another awesome video nicely done
Possible slip yoke eliminate in the future?
Try Quad 4x4 in Montana I get all my parts from them
Top notch info sam! Thanks for the content

One fork is the range and the other is the mode.

You might "collect" junk at a greater rate than me - lol. Love your videos.
I just got doing an NV5600 swap and found Oriellys has that needle bearing.

My 06 unlocks when it goes back in to park
Daniel Umphres yea autos do it but I got a 6 speed just like his 04
I’d love to see a 2nd gen manifold swap on that 04 with the stock turbo
Thanks for the video. I need to do this to mine and I was waiting for a video thanks alot keep it up You find a dash yet for grandmas truck
I have converted my Cummins 12v into a manual nv5600 but old shifter bolted to trans side. 🤷♂️

Short throw shifter either b&m or all state gear
Badass sweatshirt!
Almost to 50k followers!
You can push the bearing out from the back.
No

Shoulda done an HD SYE while you were in it. They're VASTLY stronger and you'll need a new driveshaft anyhow.
Scott L I don’t think I will ever break this. And just need to shorten the old shaft no biggy
@@VBELTandSON Agree. You usually hot rod your rigs. If it's not a DD or always in 4 low getting beat, probably no need.
