    I added a six-inch extension on my truck and an Eaton shift knob, that I really like. I also added an extra switch for the exhaust brake using the Easy Jake which is designed to work with the Eaton knob.

    I'm running an Ohio diesel extended shifter in my truck and I put a piece of rubber between the shifter and the tower where they bolt together and you can barely hear the trans anymore. Highly recommend

    Fighting your transmission just makes life harder than it needs to be, particularly when you know the box pre dual clutch shifted sweetly, but doesn't now. It sounds like the clutch throw is insufficient for the dual clutch setup. Slave and master cylinders are cheap and quick to change, I would try initially 1/8 inch smaller cylinder ( smaller cylinder gives more throw for same volume / movement) see how much difference, this makes, with the issue you are having it may require more change than this, but , this will pretty much guarantee to significantly improve the issue. ( slave plus master = 2 x 1/8" change is just over half of 1 x 1/4" change)
    I have struck this issue on stock setup where this was the easiest fix when the dealer or other agents couldn't solve the problem, other work around such as playing with "push rod " length can also help, good luck
    Edit, had a look online, these have an adjustable pushrod, this may be all you need to play with if you haven't already
    Good luck

    I almost forgot how much harder mine shifted when I dropped in the ValAir dual organic clutch for towing. Went from a single Solid fly wheel to the Dual.
    - I remember getting fed up with smelling oil inside the truck and found out the boot was torn and it was leaking from the top. So I fixed that and took out half of the fluid. I think it was stock ATF junk instead of mobile 1. And dropped in
    2 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer,
    1 quart of Lucas transmission fix, (for the detergents, and just because)
    1/4 a bottle of MMO
    And like 4 OZ of NoMoFriction
    (If I remember correctly)
    and it’s been shifting like a dream. If it’s below 20F it takes a while to warm up because of the Lucas I think. But after 10 minutes of driving it’s a lot better than what it was before in that temp.
    - It was a temporary fix because I had a Jobsite to go to the next morning and I was out there till midnight. That was 75k miles ago.

    I've had a G-56 since '06. I have the SBC OKHD. it does shift slick especially with Amsoil MTG. It quite a bit easier to shift than with Delvac 50. Near zero metal on the drain plug with 30K. I'm glad I don't need the dual disk.

  • @esad777
    @esad777 3 года назад +2

    I have a 09 3500 with a g56 and pull a loaded equipment trailer every day. I had to put a Valair organic dual disc in at 32k because the factory pressure plate was giving out. I believe the hard shifting is because of the switch to the Mobil 50 weight from the factory ATF that the trucks came with. I initially switched to the Mobil 50 weight also and add one to two extra quarts as Valair recommends to help reduce the harmonic noise that happens when you switch to the dual disc and solid flywheel from the factory clutch and dual mass flywheel. I recently switched to chevron synthetic 50 as it’s easier to get. Seems to work fine so far. Also put a TDS pto cover on that come with a higher fill hole and now can check the oil without taking a bath. The cover is awesome. Thanks for the video on the shifter extension I definitely will be ordering one.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  3 года назад +3

      I had that pto cover. Running dual fast coolers on it now. Two quarts extra in it now. I’m running what valair recommended. Truck had factory oil in trans when I swapped to dual
      Disk the 50w seems the best I’ve tried so far. And I’ve tried a lot lol

    Your up hill "battle" reminded me of sailing. I had a Lancer 25 which is no speed demon but if there's at least 2 sailboats out on a lake, eventually they will be neck and neck trying each other out. Glad you got your issue fixed, and you didn't have to resort to one of those super trucker shifters! When I drove service vans it was a constant battle chasing down rattles and squeaks...lots of bungees!

    The best I have found for to make my cast iron 6 speed manual is 2 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer full sun and top it off with Amsoil sever gear and it is quieter easier to shift and I have tried a lot of stuff and I run Amsoil sever gear in my transfer case and I did this because auto trans fluid is full of friction modifiers for the clutch plates to hold better and I’ve run this since my warranty ran out and I bought Dodge 3500 5.9 4x4 so try it you will like it .

    It’s a truck it’s supposed to have a stick and that little extension I just love have two one on tranny and one on my manual 4x4 shifter and it’s great. And I hauled cars for GM since I was 23 yrs old and did that till I retired and I guess I was to old to let all the air out of my seat and shifter over my head. I drove all them yrs with no accidents and I lost how many millions of miles I drove with out no accidents. I know my first first award I got was 2 million miles I got . We put a rubber hose over stick shift from top to bottom to take the rattle out. And do not rest your hand on shifter because it will wear out the nylon covers on your forks . !!

    I too have tried that taller Ohio diesel stainless shifter and it’s crazy loud, I tried cutting up a bike tube and putting it between the mounting points. Tightened it down and tested it and it hardly made a difference. It was the same scenario for me, one day and it was back out and went back to stock. I’m gunna have to order me one of them little cheap extensions you got and try that out. I love my g56 and Valair clutch though.

    Any thoughts on an Eaton Fuller swap? Thinking of swapping the very tired NV4500 in my '03 with a 6 speed. You're always mentioning how much you like the G56 and now I'm considering it for the ease versus the long/custom install of the Eaton. Not sure what to do!
