Korean buddhist monks are to be vegetarian due to a rule which forbids eating any kind of meat. The reason is that the Buddhism idealogy reiterates not to terminate living creatures and also they believe that eating meats can deteriorate practicing the asceticism of monk. In addition, they never use green onion or onion on their recipes.

I've had traditional Buddhist temple food and it is so delicious. I remember on my study abroad trip they took us to this country side restaurant that made this traditional food. All vegan! All so delicious! I was so happy as a vegan person myself. Even the rice was perfect. I was also shocked at the stark contrast to the city food in comparison. I know that all are not Buddhist anymore, but why is there was such a difference in foods. Is it because of western diet influence?

Korean Temples have "Temple Stay" programs. Taiwan has pretty open visit policies at mang Temples and temporary ordination as well - just FYI! 😇

Usually buddhist monks don't cook. They have to take foods by someone give. So they walk in the morning. And take foods what people give. Even buddha did that practice.
They only take foods between 7am to 11 am only they skip dinner. Most like fasting.
They can have tea without milk till next morning if they want.
They shouldn't store foods otherwise sugar, tea.
(By age, illnesses these may change. But this is the basic.)
These aren't rules.but this is what buddhist path.even buddha did.
If you like you can do it if not you can skip and be like a normal person.
