    This has to be one of my all-time favorite songs! It was used very sweetly in the film "Melody", about two schoolmates who want to get married. The brothers' early stuff was pretty profound when you realize how young they were at the time.

    I am almost 65 and have been listening to them for over 50 years. I always loved them. Every genre they tackled was done perfectly. Barry Gibb has one of the most distinctive voices ever. Robin also. I am loving watching you and your daughter react to them. I always love to see younger people appreciate this music. One of my favourite Bee Gees songs. Many artists have covered it but you should check out Keith Urban's live performance of it at a Bee Gees tribute with Barry and family in the audience. Michael Bolton also did a great cover of this song.

  • @janicetrimmell6897
    @janicetrimmell6897 Год назад +10

    When asked in various interviews over the years about their favorite songs, Barry and Robin often said "To Love Somebody" was one of their most finely crafted. Who am I, but to agree. Later in 1967 Barry would turn 21 and the twins 18. Can you believe the soul at this age. 100's of performers have covered this magnificent piece, including Janis Joplin, Tom Jones, Michael Bolton. It is beautiful. The brothers are so much more than the era of "big falsetto" in the 70's. I happen to love what they did with falsetto, but here you can hear chest (and very young) voices.

    Otis Redding died in a plane crash at age 26.
    His hit “(Sittin’ on the) Dock of the Bay” was released after his death. Redding recorded it in 2 sessions. The 2nd session took place 3 days before his crash.
    On Dock if the Bay you can hear seagulls & waves crashing. Otis requested that this be done before its release. The sounds were added after his death. He died in Dec 67 & the song was released in Jan 68. The song went to #1 based solely on radio airplay. He never got a chance to perform the song in public.

    I remember hearing Barry in an interview. He said he would get frustrated when people would call them a disco group. Because they are so much more than that. I mean they started singing in 1958 and through the 60s the 70s the 80s and 90s and even into the early 2000s before Maurice passed away in 2003. I think some of their best music was in the 60s. If you look at a lot of their songs I bet you will adore them just like you loved this one. Great reaction. Sorry I’m so long-winded.

    This TV-performance was done in Germany (1968, Beat Club). I'm livin' there and as a 14 year old boy exactly that song kinda electrified me at once. And it's priceless, lookin' into the eyes of your daughter, seeing the same thing happen again. Timeline-experiance. Barry once said, "Our songs are the stars, we bring them to the world like little babies, hoping they're doing well and my greatest wish is that our music will last". His wish came true and I'm sure, as long mankind will exist, it'll be(e) so!

    Hi girls - those were the beginnings of the BeeGees and the hippie era. I experienced those years consciously; in 1966 (just 15 years old) I lost my musical innocence in a large city in Germany. The BeeGees, the aforementioned Otis Redding, Pink Floyd, Marvin Gaye, and many more. Marvin Gaye and the MOTOWN label in particular influenced me. But I loved the BeeGees from the very first song. Yes, back then Barry still sang "normally", only later did he discover his falsetto voice. At the same time as the legendary disco hit "Saturday Night Fever"

    and: pre auto tune, computer aids, etc.. Again, just pure talent. The "love songs" of the 60's and 70's are unmatched. The gals were serenaded by these songs, and created the dream inside us gals to find a man that would feel that way and be able to express such emotion. After all, us gals are emotional creatures and the love songs of the past stir those emotions unlike anything can. Just not hearing it since about 90's.

    Aren't they just the best??!! I don't think there's any artists that were more prolific or as totally talented in so many ways (voices, harmonies, writing skills, lyrics) and through so many eras! Another great earlier one is "Run To Me". Also, if interested in hearing a great Robin-featured one try "Massachusetts" the live performance (the 'one for all' tour live in Australia). Wow. But try whatever you like, as you know, they don't have a bad song or performance. And be sure to also do "How Deep Is Your Love". Thanks for letting us all share the love again with you!

    The Bee Gees- found their legs in Australia and became famous in Australia where they had immigrated to with their parents. They were just children when they first went on Australian TV, then went back to their mother country- the UK to capture a bigger market in 1967! You should listen to their first major Aussie hit "Spicks and Specks" and "Words" is also an early song that is simple but quite beautiful.
