Yes that was Barry singing lead. Barry wrote this for Ottis Redding, but he died in a plane crash before he could record it…so they went a head and recorded it. Was a hit for them back in the day. Many people have covered this as well as many Bee Gee songs. They have written over 1,000 songs and written, produced other artists as well…especially during the ‘80’s. Sadly Barry is the only living brother left. The twins ( Robin and Maurice) and Andy Gibb have all past away. Barry is still recording and writing and collaborating with other artists. He turned 75 this past September. Barry said that he loved love songs, to Ed writing and performing them. His voice is so silky smooth, like butter. The group recorded from 1958 through the 2000’s until Maurice ( pronounced Morris) died! Check out ( Wedding Day and the only love) …

This song were written in 1967 by Barry and Robin with Otis Redding in mind. Sadly he died in a planecrash before he could record it.
They recorded it themselves and this is the result. It is pssibly their most covered song and, yes, Michael Bibble also did a cover a few years ago.
Best known cover is Michael Boltons version from the 90's. But even Janis Joplin and Tom Jones has covered it.
It is true that Barry has a very clean and straight forward voice but you should try to listen to one where Robin is on lead, like " Massachusetts" from 1967 or "I Started A Joke" from 1968.
He has a haunting, crying like vibrator voice that was much of the reason for their succes in the early days. You hear it a bit here in this song in the end. Due to the video it looks like Maurice sitting by the piano coming with that voice in the end but it is infact Robin who is standing behind Barry.
You also right about the way they wrote love songs. One once said: The Bee Gees do not write songs about women but TO women.

The Bee Gees not only sing great....but they were great song writers. Many people have sing their songs. This is the pre-disco era. Decades of greatness they left us. The brothers Gibb.

Bee Gees write all their songs. This was a number 1 they had it out in the 60’s. Also Barry Gibb is lead oldest brother. The other two are twins Barry’s twin brothers Maurice & Robin. That’s the Gibbs. They also have a brother Andy solo who hit big with 3 songs. Shadow dancing. He died in his 30’s looked just like Barry.
Also Barry is still married to his love of his life from the beginning. He also is the only one still alive & he’s the oldest. Lastly Barry has how many duets with Barbara Streisand guilty, I am a women in love & others.
Listen to The Bee Gees ALONE….. & their hit ONE both are number ones.

To Love Somebody is from the Bee Gees album called Bee Gees First. Even though technically it was their third album, it was their first international release. I was released in July of 1967. Otis Redding died in a plane crash in Dec. of 1967. :)

Barry - the eldest brother (and lead in this and most songs): rich tones, huge range.
Robin - one of the twins (standing behind Barry and took lead in many songs): angelic tone and a truly unique voice.
Maurice - on keyboards on this and most tracks (or on guitar): generally a lower register and the deeper tone that provided the perfect harmonies.
Andy - the youngest brother who was never a member of the Bee Gees (due to being a decade younger), a solo artist in his own right but performed with them a few times before his very early death (most notably on a live performance of You Should Be Dancing - you should check it and his solo hits out) who was facially the image of Barry but shorter like the twins and whose voice was the perfect blend of all his three elder brothers'.
Barry and their sister, Lesley, are the only ones left.

They had about 3 periods in my opinion- the beginning when they were real young, then next period where they were very popular- mid 60-s- early 70's- my favorite- they had a soft folk rock , kind of pop sound, then and for the final period- mid 70's - 80- they had a more R+B/Disco sound, which was their most popular period! The time after was them I think trying to find themselves after Discos decline☺

I can mention: Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, Rod Stewart, Michael Bolton and many others. Remember that The Bee Gees is probably one of the most covered bands in history. Their songwriting was simply extraordinary! I would like a reaction to 1974 Bee Gees-Mr Natural (Complete & Good Sound).

BeeGees had many hits in the 1960s, including this song (to love somebody) and other songs (I started a joke, I've get to get a message to you, words and Massachusettes).
It's just that Beegees had even greater success in the second half of the 1970s with a string of #1 songs, Jive Talkin, You Should be Dancing, Night Fever, How Deep is you Love, Stayin' Alive, Too Much Heaven, Tragedy and Love You INside Out (all #1 songs from second half of 70s.
Though BeeGees had many hit songs before the second half of 70s, they had only one #1 song before that period. The prior #1 song is How Can You Mend a Broken Heart from 1971. I think you would LOVE it.
You 2 are adorable and I love your song choice, so I hit subscribe

Here are a few more early songs you need to react to: Lonely Days, Words, I Started A Joke, Holiday, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, and I've Gotta Get A Message To You! Another great love song you should put on your list to get to some day is "Love of My Life" live at Wembley 1986 by Queen! Absolutely mind blowing beautiful version of one of the greatest love songs of all time! Two others just occurred to me: And I Love Her and If I Fell, both by The Beatles on their Hard Day's Night soundtrack! best of luck with your channel!!!

If you really want to know how big the Bee Gees were, look up all of their music that they sang and/or wrote. Their music inventory is only second to Paul McCartney in the number of songs written by the Bee Gees. They aren't only in the rock and roll hall of fame, but also the song writers hall of fame. Listen to Island in the stream, sang by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, and written by the Bee Gees.

Girls, you want to react to the GOAT voice of Rock 'n Roll, a man with perfect pitch, tone,, style, etc?? Check out the infamous Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie fronted 3 bands starting with the band RAINBOW. Check out the songs 'Mistreated' LIVE in Munich 1977, then check out 'Stargazer' from the same concert (LIVE in Munich 1977) and 'Catch the Rainbow' (same concert) to really see his versatility. Then you want to check out the band 'Black Sabbath' the song 'Heaven and Hell', but check out a live version from the 80's. Lastly, check out the band 'DIO', the songs 'The Last in Line', 'Don't Talk To Strangers', and 'Children of the Sea', ALL LIVE versions from the 80's. You will be blown away at this man's vocal talent, writing talent and stage presence and want to see more, he was the GOAT!!!! Unfortunately we lost Ronnie in 2010 from stomach cancer at the age of I believe, 67. Can't wait to see you girls discover this musical genius we were SO blessed to have for decades. He toured from the 60's to days before he passed in 2010.
