    For £120 I'd be dead happy with that, plenty fast enough for somebody who hasn't got much experience with fast cars and loads of headroom to upgrade with plenty of parts availability and a decent (ish) chassis. I'd love to see more of these 'project car' style builds, way more interesting that just brand new stuff out the box I reckon 👌

      many of us to some great R/C cars we might not have considered until we saw them on Tomely R/C. I'm old and on a pretty tight/ fixed income Phil has done the research and footwork to get the best value.
      I can tell you the little car called a Pinecone R/C 1604 which was on Tomely can't go wrong with it. This is a great channel and it's worth it to review all the episodes.

    That hobbyking receiver should bind up too most flysky radios as it's a rebranded flysky gt2.
    Older standard 2.4 ghz radio, something that's ok with rtr cars, even some brushless stuff that does maybe 30 - 40 mph is completely fine as response isn't as quick as newer 2.4 ghz radios for racing but certainly acceptable if you aren't running super high end brushless stuff you don't want too smack into a curb or under a car at 85 mph.
    Radio also came with a bunch of hsp rc cars back a few years ago got a pair of them sitting around atm from some old cars, though lost the bindplug at some point.
    So if you happen too have one of those flysky radios around it's worth trying too see if it works, might be needing to switch too AFHDS1 protocol mode on like a Flysky GT3b which is a bit newer but still compatible with these older receivers after doing a setup change with the radio.
    Fairly standard procedure
    Receiver should start flashing once you press bind button if its on either via a receiver pack or esc bec with the bind plug in ch 3, hold bind button on radio while you turn it on & let go after like 2 seconds, it should stop blinking on the receiver too confirm it's paired too the transmitter.

    AMAZING FIND!!! You definitely need a much better quality esc. lol I don't believe the down force is very good right now either. I'd highly recommend a Deltaplastik or Bittydesign body, which they are getting ready to release the all new LAMBO 1/7 body any time now! In my experience the Stock XO-1 body is also very sketchy at high speed & the small stock ABS plastic rear wing is more for cosmetic appearance rather than performance. With a decent wing on this Vette body & possibly some vertical stabilizers you could make a huge difference in how the car drives. Also Powerhobby gripper tires are absolutely excellent or possibly a softer compound of the New design GRP tire. Some nice foams if you wanna go super fast! Cheers from OIIIO...

      @@TomleyRC I totally got what you were saying with this video. When you released the video about how Traxxas do business I repeated what you said about how they do business after you said about Google the law suits, I also googled horizon hobby lawsuits and Traxxas take it to the xtreme! Horizon however there’s not much to see.
      When I brought up the subject of lawsuits in a comment I made I got hammered for it by people saying that horizon are a much bigger company etc and Traxxas are just protecting there products.
      I’m a firm believer in that Traxxas over charge you for there products. There in general quite a bit more expensive than there counterparts cars of similar spec or claims of what they can and can’t do.
      I do have to admit that I’ve not owned a Traxxas but I’ve been at a friends house when each of his kids got one. A Bandit,Rustler and a Slash
      Having been involved in Rc since I was a kid 35 years ago I think I got my first Tamiya Hornet, I was asked to set them up for my friends kids. I did it but within 1 hour all the cars had problems. The Slash being the worst with broken drive shafts and screws falling out. These cars weren’t being driven hard or doing big jumps they were being driven round a 2 acre garden which at the time was just loose dirt.
      I only use this as an example for my own experience but that put me off the brand.
      Plus this happened on Maui in Hawaii so there were no hobby stores and everything had to be ordered to come from Hawaii (the big island)
      I definitely don’t think being plastic (much cheaper to produce) and using ESCs motors and servos most seem to swap out straight away for better because standard ones (from watching all vids on RUclips) are shit! They are not worth the price they are. If they were say 10-20% cheaper, keeping in line with other brands then maybe there worth it but not priced as are

    It’s a bargain either way. Looks like fun too. I have a stock X-01 and I haven’t taken it to 100mph yet. I have gotten it to go very fast though. The stock body might look dated, but the aero on it helps the car hunker down and increases stability at speed. The stock wheels are larger diameter than what you have I think and quite sticky, which helps again with speed and stability. Still, I though it went alright considering. I have an Infraction too btw, great car.

  • @createsomefun
    @createsomefun 2 года назад +1

    So everyone does realize it's not the ESC limiting the speed right. It's a 1900 KV motor which is not matched to that ESC very well, also amperage draw lowers with higher voltage so an xt60 would be fine with 6s honestly.

    • @createsomefun
      @createsomefun 2 года назад

      To be fair that ESC must be pretty old because the 150 amp ones now are usually 6s, although at eighth scale 4S will be your fastest setup when done properly.

    • @RCOverKill
      @RCOverKill 2 года назад

      I disagree, I bet he could put an mm2 in on 4s, and it would do at least 60mph. I've seen a lot of escs act like that when the amp demand is too high. The hobbywing 10blah, blah is bad about that if not matched, but if you baby the throttle enough it will hit good speeds, if you try nailing the throttle it acts like his. That's my experience anyway. 1900kv is definitely a 6s to 8s motor.

    • @createsomefun
      @createsomefun 2 года назад

      It's a crawler motor. A sensored 1900kv crawler motor.

    • @createsomefun
      @createsomefun 2 года назад

      It's not the amp demand that does that, it's the timing which causes high amperage.

    Good price, it has potential, but they removed the Castle 1717 motor & ESC unfortunately. It definitely needs good tires & maybe a suspension tune. Using only one battery would upset the weight balance. I can’t wait to see what you do with it 😎
    I’d buy the Hobbywing Max6 esc 4985 motor combo, 34t pinion gear, quality tires with the correct diameter. It’ll do 100mph & cheaper than Castle 1717 systems. Mine is stock with the 34t pinion & I can confirm it will do 100mph on a good surface. It helps when you warm up the tires.

    I think the car is too heavy, the motor is definitely small. I wouldn't recommend a 1500 series stator I would go more for the 1700 series stator, basically a 49mm motor should definitely do the job

    The reason it cogs badly is not over-gearing, I'd say. I got a few of these Turing/Hobbyking sensored 1/8 motors, and they really REALLY do not like unsensored ESC's. They rattle and whine like mad. I use them with an LRP sensored ESC, and they're suddenly butter smooth and quite powerful.. Aaaand.. too small for the XO-1. Sensored motors - in general - also aren't as powerful as sensorless motors with the same size and wind.
    The thing I do not get is why the car is so squirrelly. I'd check the camber, caster and the suspension itself. The unbalance due to only 1 battery only partially would explain the atrocious road holding, and can be compensated by adjusting the dampers on one side.
    The body could also add to the trouble. The car seems to lift a bit at the front at speed.. And there goes Your steering and balance.
    At speeds around 60 km/h, body shape becomes very important, especially for our - relatively - tiny and light toy-cars. Even the Vendetta, despite its shape, has trouble keeping straight if the body is just a little off, say, the front dampened too hard and the nose a couple of mm too high. The XO1 body is basically a giant wedge, more like a pan-car, and as such way better at speed. Anyways.. It's just a thought... 😜

    Good day. I was wondering if you had a good idea for a new chassis build to go with a body that I acquired. The body is an Austin Healey 3000 that I want to make look like my grand fathers car(which my parents still have). I am thinking either a rally car or street car(not a drifter). I am not sure which chassis would be best for it do you have any good ideas? Thank you

    I would like to see the weight of the xo1 and the infraction, I believe the infraction has way more weight into it for alot more stability. That's how people can get crazy 150mph run out of the infraction/ limitless.

    Those wheels you removed are only £20 for a full set,been using them on a 3s Typhon and Hobao gt on 4s for ages m8 and they're pretty good, anything above 4s will kill em quick though.

    If I spin the wheels off the ground with my car.... The front right of the car lifts, the faster you do it obviously causes a harsh vibration..
    Have checked everything and nothing looks bent, steering arms etc, nothing on the car has ever broken but since this problem started I have replaced the front diff,
    Front suspension (with the exact same ones) but the problem still persists.
    Losing the will to wrench on it now as can't seem to figure it out

    Traxxas VXL, 70mph out of the box on 3's. If you can still buy it? You could probably put the the kysho corvette ZR-1 body on it with some adapting. Probably have to change wheels and tires and change gear ratio to suit your new smaller diameter on-road wheels.
