I'm actually shocked how well both of you pronounce romanian words in many of your videos... actually I hear no difference compared to original romanian words.. i'm impressed.
I only eat salata de vinete made by mom. I don't usually like the one from restaurants or supermarkets. Mom cooks the eggplant over an open flame, so the end taste is smokey. And she chops them so fine, they are turned into a paste. She never adds mayo, oil is enough. I guarantee they are a million times better than anything you've tried. Thanks for sharing your experience. Nice video as always, guys.
The burn taste îs essential for a good salata de vinete. It represents the taste&smell of childhood for many romanians. And a good salata de vinete must be served with grilled peppers (on open fire off curse) peeled and sprinkled with vinagre.
I love you guys that you pronunciation is spot on ... most reviewers of romanian products and food don't even bother to speak correctly the names of the food or snacks but you guys speak it perfectly!
cabbage salad and "perisoare" for me 3-4 , rest 5, as a food recipe.of course it depends how they do it, done by grandma, or parents who lived at country side are best. i recommend restaurants with traditional romanian food and there can be close to that good flavor. what i recommend to try out are : "tochitura" , "ardei umpluti", "jumeri" and "caltabos"(similar to pate) -are pork stuff done usually in winter, "ciorba de fasole verde"(green beans soup) and "ciorba radauteana"(sister for "ciorba burta" but has chicken instead), "gulas"(stew with beef meat), "crema de zahar ars"(as desert), "clatite" (with "urda si marar" ,expecially or gem), "supa de galuste" and "supa de pui cu taitei"(noodle soup with chicken) . great video again.congrats!
I really enjoyed watching this video! You're always do honest still respectful! You're pronunciation is very good! Salata de vinete it's really tricky. Because everyone has its own recipe. My mom cooks it directly on the flame, so it's a little bit smoky. Then adds a little bit of oil and mayo. It depends a lot on the type of the eggplant itself. It usually turns out different, even thou we use the same recipe, because we don't always find the good eggplants. When right, it's delicious!
Mici is always eaten with mustard on the side! and optimal a pint of beer XD Edit: just found about the fact you love mamaliga, and madam, you earned a new subscriber haha
I am so proud of you guys !! You almost Romanian !!😃I love your family , I wish you the best life there !🍀 I ‘m Romanian and live for the past 20 years in Boston area , my husband love Romanian food and he is born American
Oh my God guys, you're so adorable. So happy to see all of you enjoying romanian food, specially the girls, you can see how they enjoy eating different foods. We are romanians but we moved to England 8 years ago, trying to cook romanian food here as often as possible. Enjoy your stay in Romania 💙
Oh, and I'm also in agreement with Pablo, partially, at least, I don't eat eggplant in prepared dishes, except for salata de vinete. However, as many mentioned, bought salata de vinete si seldom done well.
As some of the others comments mentioned, salta de vinete is an aquired taste and one that is always better if made at home, over a grill for that smoky flavor. The way we do it is we also add to the mix finely chooped red onions and we eat it with feta cheese and tomatoes. :) My wife is American and it's interesting to me that she likes some romanian foods that even I don't, like "racituri" (head cheese) haha
it mostly depends on the region, I'm from noth-vest, and here we prefer the eggplant salad as following : cook the eggplant on open fire until the skin is carbonized, clean with real care so you don't mix the burned skin inside the fruit it self chop it with the not sharpen part of the knife, (break it not cut it ), and mix with home made mayonnaise 50/50 ratio, add fine cut onion, about one table spoon/ 1 eggplant, and salt tomatoes
Hey all, love your guys' honesty when it comes to Romanian food. As Pablo mentioned it really depends who cooks it. ; ) Maybe you can add some of the Easter time staples in Transilvania like drob de miel, chifteluțe de carne vită+porc, ouă umplute. Keep up the entertaining content!
If you want to still try eggplant salad, try the one made with mayo. Not to much mayo just egnough to change the taste. Also I could not see egnough onions on I to so it is best with red onions. I may sound like a salad expert, lol but the cabbage salad seemed to be missing the best part, fresh dill.
If you have a chance, try eating the sweet version of `salata de varza` by mixing in a bowl a bit of water (half a cup or so, depending on how much cabbage you have) with 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar, 1 or 2 tablespoons of sugar (depending on how sweet you want it to be) and a pinch of salt. Stir well and add it on your cabbage. It's a whole new level of `salata de varza`. We like to eat it this way in some regions of Romania, like the West part. The sad thing is that you won't find it in restaurants so it's basically homemade only. Give it a chance and who knows, you might love it

So this is more of a dessert but it’s one of absolute favorites. It’s called “gogoși” they are kinda like donuts. If you do try them make sure to put powdered sugar on top after they are done.
Soups always with sour cream, sour bread and a pickled chillie or raw big size green chillies.......cabage always village style homemade....romanian baba ganoush always with a bit of meyo and onion......papanasi always with nutella .. That's how my Romanian Pakistani household do it 😬😅💞...
Eggplant salad is very good, depending on who makes it. To be good, put in mayonnaise and eat micii when they are done on the spot, they are great. Cabbage is eaten with grilled meat, not empty. All traditional Romanian food, in order to be good, must be made by someone who knows. Food must be bought from peasants.
The Eggplant salad is NEVER good in retaurants or stores in Romania. The most important ingredient is mayonnaise which they never put in in those places. Home made Eggplant salad have a complitly different taste, like divine or smthg. Served with tomatoes or rosted peppers salad is top notch. Never buy it from stores, it's uneatable.
The mamaliga that you tried is very soft in my opinion, almost like very liquidy porridge as i could see,i am accomodated to the more firmer mamaliga that my grandma makes, and the cheese is a special type called telemea either sheep or cow cheese but i prefer the sheep cheese because of the saltiness Either way,im glad you guys gave us an honest opinion!😄
i love eggpplant salad, always make it on open flame(grill or a sheet of metal) you can use mayo or not (even rosted tomatoes can go in it) but make sure you use good OIL in it. And the sad part is i'm kinda allergic to eggplant :( (it upsets my stomac) but still eat it.
Haha.. I am romanian and I also had some years of not wanting sour cream on my sarmale (I was like ,,I don't need this on my sarmale''). But seeing other people enjoying it with sour cream too.. I started to give it a 2nd chance to even a third chance.. and now (at the age of 33) I eat sarmale with sour cream too 😅 (now it makes sense.. hot / warm sarmale.. and you usually use some cold (from the fridge) sour cream.. but yeah.. it also tastes good with sour cream too). 👍
Well, you won't find at any restaurant a very good "salata de vinete" like the one that's home made. Every restaurant uses lots of mayo, my mom doesn't use at all and is very tasty. Recommended to have it with baked peppers in oil and vinegar.
pablo's reaction to eggplant is like mine's when it comes to any sorth of fish! hello from italy! ihave romanian origins and i used to eat those things as a child...now,i can't find those anywhere! If you think about it, home made food is usually a lot better then the one you order, it depends also from what region you buy it :). What you buy from a restaurant is not the same with what we usually cook. There are some restaurants that are good, and some that are not, it depends ... You should try "zacusca de vinete" if you don't like egg plants (with onion is the best). But if you try zacusca, make sure you try it from different places. I bought something that was not eatable... it doesn't even compare with traditional "zacusca de vinete". Have fun :)

Eggplant salad is my favourite spread :) but not like the one in the video, which looked kinda sketchy, I like eggplant that is mixed with onions and mayonnaise and that has a whiter colour, not that off-putting colour in the video :))
Hi. The food in question is not prepared correctly. The small ones are over-fried and eaten with mustard. Sarmales must be in tomato sauce and those prepared with basil. Put a spoonful of cream and a little vinegar in the belly soup. Cabbage salad is mixed with a little oil, a little vinegar, salt and pepper to taste. Pork neck too dry, when preparing the neck sprinkle with beer or wine so that it is not tough like ham, the neck must melt in the cure. Good appetite.
Very good pronounciation of Romanian food name !!...You have to eat " salata de vinete" with slices tomatoes...and that " mamaliga " seems to be too soft...Try again to eat the same food from other supplier because the taste depends on who prepares it. You' ll notice the difference, trust me!
I hope you see this in Romania,(tanadari) people say it is gypsy when it isn't, we used to get the pig and burn it so we make cioraba mind my spelling I was born in UK and don't know how to spell in Romania
I agree with you guys. That eggplant salad is gross. Im romanian and I was never able to eat that and I eat pretty much everything. This salad, stuffed peppers (which is a romanian dish, basically similar to sarmale only you put the mix in bell peppers and cook them the same way) and honey (which for me is the most disgusting thing that people eat)

@@33adrenaline we’ve never been to that hotel but public transportation is super cheap and easy to use. We like using taxis and Ubers to get around there.
you have to try salta de beuf, it's brilliant
That is one of our favorites!
@@THECALDERONFAM 🥰🥰
Eggplant salad is my favourite spread :) but not like the one in the video, which looked kinda sketchy, I like eggplant that is mixed with onions and mayonnaise and that has a whiter colour, not that off-putting colour in the video :))
Yours definitely sounds better!
Some times eggplant can by harvested to sun or to late and will ruin everything.
I am Romanian and you pronounced all of them corectly and the first foot corba de perișoare is my favorite
I’m glad our pronunciation was correct!
What a beautiful family 🎉❤
Thank you!🥰
You've barely scratched the ice on romanian food but keep up the good work!
In the end,did you tried ciorba de burta? How was it,if so?
I still haven’t tried it yet!
Very good pronounciation of Romanian food name !!...You have to eat " salata de vinete" with slices tomatoes...and that " mamaliga " seems to be too soft...Try again to eat the same food from other supplier because the taste depends on who prepares it. You' ll notice the difference, trust me!
im Romanian and Ciorba de perisoare are my favorite!!! and Papanasi my mom makes homemade Papanasi and we call them Mamanasi🤭
Love it!
Este foarte important la salata de vinete , sa fie maioneza facuta in casa , si un soi bun de vinete .....
I hope you see this in Romania,(tanadari) people say it is gypsy when it isn't, we used to get the pig and burn it so we make cioraba mind my spelling I was born in UK and don't know how to spell in Romania
Sarmale is very good with yogurt. One of the most authentic food combo in romania
not yogurt but sour cream
@@axjkhl7699 homemade yogurt is good also
If you don't like to put salt on your cabage salad, you can use cheese! It is way much more delicious
We will have to try that!
The "nu-mi place vinete" was convincing XD you get a pass my man :))
Haha!
OMG ur daughter is named Carolina?!😆 THAT IS MY NAME TOO!!
That’s awesome!❤️
He said that so well in Romania like actually
🎉
This video was a year ago tho
Your spelling is real and real good also im from romania and i dont know of salatâ de varzâ
try piftie :) they have some okayish one in mega image ... Romanians love it but the foreigners not so much :))) ... you will understand why
I will look for it!
TWENTY THOUSAND VIEWS!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!
🎉🎉❤️
You jumped the fence here in Romania as well as you probably did in USA?
Fasole bătute, Salate de boeuf, Salate de Icre, Sarmale de foi de viță, Pastramă, Ghiudem, Cașcaval,Ardei umplut, Placinte de toate feluri
i was gonna say where is the sarmale but its there!!
I'm shocked how well u pronounce the food ! ( r u part romanian ?xD [ or u was romanian in other life ] xDD )
Thank you! We wish 😉
I love when people talk about romanian stuff because im romanian and i love chorba de verishoare and halva is a dessert
Romanian translation: imi place foarte mulț findca eu is romana si mie imi place chorba de verishoare si halva e un desert
You should try "salata de boeuf"
It’s one of our favorites!!
ciorba de burta is a must, best romanian soup in my opinion
I need to try it!!
Ciorba de burta is actually amazing.. I know it sounds weird.. that's why I first tried it only a few years ago but now is my favorite soup. And I'm not a fan of soups. Ps: never ever ever try mici without mustard. I'm a fan of mici but if I don't have mustard I don't like it
Try varză călită with smoked pork and mămăligă and fasole cu ciolan ,a traditional food on December 1-st,the romanian national day
That sounds amazing!
3:38 add pepper, it will have a kick to it
Salad is good to eat with potato food or beans food.
Super familie,va pup 😘
Beautiful family!! The food actually didn't look very good 🙄.. don't order from that restaurant again 🤣.. let the neighbors do the food. For sure will taste better 😁
Salata de varza does mean Cabbage salad btw
În general ciorba caldă este bună cu smântână.
Is the little girl said is good means is good 😊
