    There is no such thing as junk or scrap if it has a use. To look at a hulk or sub-assembly and picture it in a new application AND ACTUALLY MAKE IT HAPPEN is the difference between a hoarder/dreamer and a owner of a unique new thing. Mostly I admire your energy and enthusiasm.

    Interesting video. Never seen a video of switching an 3/4 to 1 ton old pick up truck from 2wd to 4wd with rebuilt junk driveline units and bolting on the front suspension cradle to get a cheap repower, front discs, and independent suspension and get that through state inspection station with engine numbers that don't match the body, without the state stalling out the registration. Did see a Freightliner van get a complete 1935 Diamond T front sheet metal clip and will never know how that one got registered as a complete hybrid something or other.

    Hello from Minnesota! I had A lot of what you need on both the Chevy engines and the 225 but it all went to the scrapper 3 years ago when I moved.
    That's always the way! what one guy has another needs but the distance is too far to exchange the goods!
    Good luck in finding what you need.

    Great job on these videos. If you don't know this by now the slant 6 you bought is a '75 or newer. It has the "peanut" head on it which came out that year and eliminated the spark plug tubes. If it's a '75 it will have a forged crank with 1.25" rod journal width. If it's a '76 or newer it will have a cast crank and the rod journals are 1" wide. The bellhousing on the engine was drilled for both the 3 speed and the 883 4 speed transmissions since they were both used behind the slant. Measure the bearing retainer bore. It looks to me that it is 5.125" which would indicate it probably had an OD 4 speed bolted to it. Ma Mopar started doing that in late '75. Your series on the '73 Dodge pickup is what got me to subscribe to your videos. I'd give my left nut for that truck. I'd give my right one for a 170 slant 6 block. If you run across one of those let me know. They are getting scarce as hen's teeth and were only produced from 1960 to 1970. The bypass hose that goes from the head to the water pump is only an inch or so long on a 170. That's quick telltale. Thanks again and have fun....

  • @flyboy3633
    @flyboy3633 5 лет назад

    Oops ! I just listened to that remark again. You actually said "305" not "302". I should have never doubted you.
    But let the viewer be warned. The '442 crank you got was the only casting shared between the 305 and the 350. It was produced for a wide span of years - from '68 to '85. During the life of the 305 they used nine other castings that were lightweight versions only for the 305 (and smaller) engines. The 305 uses a smaller diameter piston (3.736 inch) which makes the piston lighter. So stating in the mid '70s a light version of the 305 crankshaft was made with smaller counterbalances. You can lighten a 350 crankshaft to balance in a 305, but it's difficult to add enough metal to a 305 crankshaft to work in a 350.

    Some of the Massey Ferguson combines had the '225 engines. I think Gleaner had GM engines like the 283's or maybe the 235's. Good luck, too, finding what you need (carbs, caps, starters..........).

    wow what a haul you have there Jonathan. I couldnt even get prices like that at pick in pull for a used engine. And you got three! I gotta go find some auto parts auctions out here in Reno thats some really decent stuff for cheap.
    Thanks for sharing

  • @flyboy3633
    @flyboy3633 5 лет назад

    Around 18:00 you said the 302 and the 350 had the same stroke. Not true my otherwise educated friend. The 302 and the 350 share the same bore (4 inches). The 302 uses the 283 's stroke (3 inches) compared to the 350's 3.48 inch stroke. Even though the bores are the same the 302's piston are different as well. To get the piston top up to the deck Chevy used 1.8 inch compression height which if used in a 350 would put the piston crown out of the bore about a quarter inch.
    I love your videos. Keep them coming !

    i think the slant 6 bellhousing works mainly for the overdrive transmission but also works for the standard 4 speed if memory serves me correct it will also work with the 3 speed if you run the regular 4speed the throw out bearing coller is smaller on the regualr 4 speed but i have never had a problem just uising bolts they make a spacer to make it bigger like the over drive trans most of the overdrive looked just like the 4 speed except they were aluminum.

  • @79tazman
    @79tazman 5 лет назад

    Damn what a score you stole that stuff LOL!! That's cool that 225 looks like a newer block it looks to be one from mid 70's maybe a Super 6 with the 2bbl carb they went to a hydraulic lifters in the mid 80's instead of the solid lifters and they made the block lighter then the old block I don't know If you read the comments but I was saying you should get a Flathead for that Ford you just got done building that flathead would be awesome on that it would be cooler then a Y block in my opinion anyways what a score you stole that stuff but I guess one man''s junk is another man's gold mine and you scored well at that auction.

    Jonathon, you found some real good buys at that auction, with the scrap guys buying this stuff up and most of our youth driving Honda`s and they don`t know anything about building on the cheep, so as sad as it is most of this stuff will end up going to China. I have a liking for the Chrysler 225 slant six motors, they produce good power and are almost bullet proof , I used buy the single bbl Holley carbs with the glass fuel bowl whenever I found them in good undamaged shape at the pick a part yards. Take care bud.

    The Chevy engine may be a 216. If the spark plugs have 10mm threads, that would cinch it. The linkage on top of the bell housing is for a starter pedal.

    I know this video is old but on Chevy's to denote a high nickle block with a wired suffix all you gotta do is either look for a k under the timing cover or belhousing area and also the inside of timing area and belhousing looks like someone took a pension eraser and dabbed the casting all over
