    My simple tip, even when you are in pain or can’t work, still keep up with learning. I watch tutorials and flip through books, sometimes even just listening to an art podcast. I have auto immune issues too among other problems, I spend quite a bit of time in pain and unable to do art. I watch people like you and learn so much, just being willing to keep learning keeps art alive in my heart and I feel better for it. Im on your side and will keep rooting for you!

    One thing that helped me was displaying my art. I simply taped watercolors on the wall above my bed where I would see them and be reminded of how satisfying it was to make them. Looking at art, even my own old pieces, is inspiring. A bonus is when someone else see it and tells me how great they are, lol.

      I have seen in a number of watercolor painting videos of people using journals, much more so than acrylic painters. I have done some journals in acrylic, simply because I didn't have space to hang them. But with a smaller journal and being able to use both sides of the paper, which you can't in acrylics - because the acrylics will fuse together - I love just being able to flip through the pages to see what I have done.

    To anyone who doesn't like how you do it...fie on them! Your points are so valid! I love your 5 art habits! I agree with out of sight out of mind. I am totally the same way. Don't come into my studio and judge...I know where everything is, it's where I need it to be, they way I need it to be, they way I WANT it to be. Art is messy and so is creativity. The whole reason why I have an art studio and completely got rid of the spare bedroom is because I need to do other things sometimes when I am in the middle of doing art. I don't want to clean off the kitchen table for dinner if I'm in the middle of a project...hence the art studio...where it can all be the way I want!! ❣

    I hear ya on the art block. I was teaching myself to watercolor a few years ago and was doing pretty good. But then had to start cleaning these 3 story buildings where I live (it’s an apt complex) in order to keep from being homeless. My body hurts so bad when I get done I just couldn’t keep going with doing art. I think being in physical pain can ruin the whole thing. I want to get back to it but not as long as I have to keep cleaning these buildings. I feel completely blocked now. So many times I’ve felt like I wanted to go do something, and I have a lot of nice supplies, but I’m just in too much pain.
    I think I’m sort of inbetween as far as tidy. I like things tidy around my work area but I also need to have things at hand. I hate to have to go rummaging for things or digging around to find what I need. I had things go flying too when I was doing watercolor especially the paper towels or toilet paper 😅 watercolor can be tricky and you only have so much time during certain stages.

    Another amazing video Amy! I just loved the oil painting you made, it’s magical. The Art Habit that has really helped me is I have a journal where I write my art goals for the day(usually one or two) and I write down what time I started, and I paint or draw until I feel I have accomplished those goals(sometimes I don’t quite finish them…but I do my best) and then I write down what time I stopped. At the top I write how many days I’ve been working on that one thing, like day 3 or day 7 and so on… these habits are great, and I will definitely be incorporating some into my art practice!

  • @Anonymoi
    @Anonymoi 10 часов назад +1

    The thing that I found really helped is along the lines of “draw every day,” but more specific. It won’t necessarily work for those who don’t have flexible schedules, though. When I take my kids to school in the morning, I bring coffee and some basic art supplies, and then I drive to a nature preserve/recreation area a couple miles away. There are a couple areas to park, both of which have a great view of a lake. I usually make a sketch in my car with some combination of watercolor and colored pencils. At this point I have many sketches of the same scenes (two vantage points) at different times of the year, bare trees, leafed out trees, autumn leaves, bare ground, snow, etc.. I enjoy this routine and it is helpful to sketch the same scene many times. In warmer weather I will get out of the car and walk to an interesting spot and work from there.

    It is so nice to be able to have a space where you can just have some stuff out and ready. I used to have an office in our old house, now we are in a 2 bedroom apartment, so I usually have to do art on the kitchen table. I just started doing watercolor and that is nicer in a way because it is now as much setup. It doesn't matter if someone doesn't like it, it is YOURS! I like that you are real! Make your vision board of your studio, talk about it like it already exists and it helps to bring it into existence. When we needed to get out of our house because of the gas heat and find a place with electric heat (I became sensitive to it) I believed the Universe would bring us the best place for us, and it happened. My husband had a heart attack on 9-27-24 ending up having 5 bypasses, I was so glad I wasn't responsible for all the normal fall work I would of had had to do over there. We moved in June of 2023. So just keep your dream alive calling it in everyday. In your heart act like you are already in it.

    Yes, absolutely, this video is right on the money! I have learned that if I don't have stuff easy to access, then I won't do anything which makes me feel guilty and sad. Just a few minutes of drawing a day can help!

    Awesome content! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you in getting that art studio. That is exciting news for sure! I also love to see your enthusiasm for your art. I know what a struggle this past year or so has been for you and how badly it affected your ability to enjoy your art practice. But you are one tenacious woman! I am so impressed and inspired by your ability to not give up. My own health is faltering again and I certainly need people like you to remind me that there are always better days ahead if I am brave enough to show up at the art table no matter what.

    I actively aspire to have more of my art supplies right out in front of me. We had to get the carpets cleaned and my whole studio has been in upheaval. I decided that if it was already upheaved, then perhaps I should be a little more thoughtful as I settle my little nest. Part of my vision is having all my supplies extremely accessible so that there is a low barrier to get started doing any type of project I want at any time.

    You do you! They can have their space how they want it and you how you prefer yours, I’m more in your camp, I like the main stuff I use on hand, if I have to I go and hunt for it the impulse dies and I lose interest or by the time I set up I’m too tired to bother. I do keep all my paper in drawers and my different paints in tubs in drawers so I can grab the tub and a paper pad and go xx

    Hi, I love ur videos so much, actually it gives me motivations to draw as I am not a professional artist, I have a question plz., now what do u think? Of Medeen easel with the other starter kit of acrylic, watercolor and oil paint, do u think that it's a good quality to start with?

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  17 часов назад +4

      Yes as far as the easel and the watercolor! I haven't used the oil or acrylic's enough to s say for sure, but they have pigment numbers and lightfast rating which makes them a cut above most student level supplies. I ALWAYS recommend their watercolor paper and paints and gouache to people who want better quality supplies, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg! Also, The easel I am using in this video is a Meeden easel, coincidentally! Hope that helps!

    Oh my gosh, I’ve had art supplies packed up, because I’m moving. I never put things up and my space was a complete disaster’ its best my space isn’t in my home because I get paint everywhere. The only way I can create art is to have it all out, and I’m only a beginner 🤪🤣
