That first call...I would never have asked a boyfriend to loan me money, even $10, let alone $12,000! That is just awkward and gross. Yuck!!
A couple ideas for the boyfriend with a girlfriend wanting a loan, he might pass on info about setting up a budget. If she can get on a budget where she can fund an emergency fund, actually save money, and then make payments above the minimum monthly payment on her CC, then he would match the over payment. Match only the extra added to the minimum payment. This would be a monthly check in, He asks, "how much are you over paying this month?" "I'm paying an extra $100 on top of the $123 minimum." "OK great, write the check for $323, and I'll add $100 back into your checking account. This would show to both of them she has some self discipline, she would need to be open with her finances. This would be a 3 or 4 year plan, and a good test of her resolve to to get it paid. If she fails to keep the bargain, he may want to rethink their financial comparability. He is also not paying a $12,000 bill for someone who ends up as an ex girlfriend. He is helping but helping her to be super aggressive at getting the bill paid down.
If she says she can pay him back, she can make the payments!

No, bro... if you were my best friend and you told me this, I'd say please don't.
As unfortunate as it is, she didn't set boundaries with her ex, and you're not setting boundaries with her, so everyone is getting played. She can do several things.
1) Work more
2) Cut expenses
3) Transfer the debt to a 0% APY
It won't be easy, but she has to deal with this herself. You can help by making dinner instead of going out to eat and planning free dates. If you start paying for all this stuff because she don't have the money, you're basically giving her $12,000 too so let her learn from this or this will become a lesson for you when she breaksup with you.

Early in my life after high school in 1977 I worked 1 full & 1 part time job. My bank account started to grow. I was able to buy a brand new car clothing, and live a little better,Etc. Friend’s took notice. I got burned loaning my then Buddy Mike $400. He needed new tires and I paid for them and I never saw him or my money again. That was the last time I loaned money. I’ve been asked a few times since my answer is cold, “I’m not a bank and I would hate to have it effect our relationship. Can you find a part time job? “

She half a$$ pays attention to people all the time. Makes me wanna bang my head against the wall because she's more worried about "the series of baby steps, listen, some type a way, and a little bit" than actually paying attention to anything someone says. 🙄

The REAL QUESTION IS, " Joe, how you gonna feel if she says things aren't working out and bounces on your butt!?" If there are no contracts showing she actually agreed to pay it back...nope no loan. If you were married, maybe different but you're not. He said that balance was from an ex if im not mistaken, that means if they've been together 1 1/2yrs. Shes been carrying that balance for that long! BIG RED FLAG! Its like shes looking for the sucker to pay that off for her.
I’m 52 hoping to end the rat race by 60 with above $100M. I know money is a liability to be exchanged for assets with real value like real estate (properties for rent) stocks (dividends) bonds (interest) But, what is it with bitcoin? I hear a lot about it and I'd love to diversify my portfolio.
bitcoin does not pay any yield but will reward you with growth that you can't find in any other asset class
look at the charts, bitcoin has outperformed every stock and banking product ever developed even after multiple pullbacks over the last decade. not a financial advisor but I know what i'm saying

Re: Joe’s call. Keep it simple. The borrower is slave to the lender. Hence, I don’t loan money to anyone, ever. Set the precedent now and be firm in your principles.

It's not a scam the caller at 25:00 is talking about - it's AT&T data breach lol. All over national news. Like they said, just monitor. THIS time it is not a scam, but obviously there are sometimes when that happens.
Information about anyone (age, address, phone #) except for a social security # is available on lots of publicly accessed sites - and a low-cost monthly membership to Whitepages lets a subscriber see email addresses, cell phone numbers, and even the exact birthday, as well as the names of family members and associates - so she should not be surprised that her phone number is on "the dark web." Best things to do: change your passwords and freeze your credit.
The data breach of a company IS a scam dude.
Could it have been a staged call to plug another Zander product? They didn't listen to her at first and then were very dismissive, pushing her onto Zander. They spent 20 minutes with the first 2 calls which was excessive and 20 seconds with a frightened woman. It disgusted us to be honest x

for Robert: his concerns are real. If she is not on top of her commitments she could find herself losing her house if she misses taxes or insurance. That 2nd could take her house and the county for taxes. He is being a really good son. I say her situation is his business.
How about the elevators union.
Plumbers or pipefitters union.
They train you for free.
Or a non union ...The association of building contractors apprenticeship program.
As a pipefitter, you can learn how to run high purity piping for tool fit up at places make the chips that go in your phone, computers etc.
I retired from Local 286 in Austin, Texas.
My son is now a journeyman elevator mechanic in the Austin union.
They pay well and have good benefits!
He turns 30 today and buying his first home this month.

Re: Ryan’s call. Jade misses again. Wouldn’t roll a traditional 401(k) into a Roth IRA. Dave says that Roth conversions are a baby step 7 item. Instead, should’ve advised to roll it into a traditional IRA while in Baby step 2. They’re going to get a tax bill by doing a Roth conversion that they don’t need while in baby step 2. 🤦🏼♂️

@@LillianMhandu I agree with the "again." That was unnecessary. However, the remainder of what the OP stated was correct. The old 401k shouldn't be rolled into a Roth IRA until BS 7 because of the tax hit. Instead, it should be rolled into an IRA. Have a lovely day.❤️❤️

What happens when your daughter goes off to college and decides after one semester that they don't want to go to college anymore? or they transfer to another college? You bought a house for something that is so temporary. There is no guarantee all five kids go to the same college, let alone all go to actual college.

They recommend a target date fund all the time. As well as funds that copy the S&P 500.
Growth is mid-cap funds; growth and income is large-cap funds; aggressive growth is small-cap funds. Hope that helps.
Hi I am a mum of two married and live in London. I recently find out about baby steps and this week me and my husband put all the payments into a big spreadsheet so we both could visualise where we are and where we need to be. We both going to take extra work alternating one at home as we have to look after the children. Our income just pay for what we live at the moment plus the debt on multiple credit cards I didn’t even knew about it once I had the children I stay home for a few years but out lifestyle was the same trips and so on. I try to use every dollar to budget but because I am in UK doesn’t work for me. Any ideas of app that can help me over here?

I’m in Europe too and we don’t have access to every dollar premium nor can we download the free one on the phone but you can download it on a computer. Only the free version and not the premium but it’s still great.
Hi hun, we're in Wales and have worked the Babysteps here by following Dave's advice and by watching Martin Lewis and a number of frugal youtubers. The app we've used for years is free for both android and apple and it's called 'Spending Tracker'. I have experienced a loan that was transferred to another servicer, but then not removed from my credit report with "no info" for 1.5 years. Then it appeared like I owed the amount twice after the new servicer assumed it. I'm convinced that the service provider changed and it was simply not removed from her credit report.

The military vet quit his job just to avoid getting stuck with a needle. That’s ridiculous. As a serving member myself, I’ll say this, we are FREQUENTLY required to get vaccines when we deploy. Geez, when I joined, we lined up and had a nurse on each arm giving us got knows what kind of shots. It seems silly to take this stance just because it’s your political POV.
The fact that this girlfriend felt free to ask her BF for a "loan" strikes me as awfully close to young women who seem to feel that if they are dating a man it is his duty to pay her rent or make her car payment or buy her groceries. NO NO NO NO NO. Do NOT do this. I can tell how old I am by the fact that when I was a young woman, I never, not even one time, asked a guy I was dating to give me money, whether it was to pay one of my bills for me or "loan" me some money.
Sorry, but I do not think this is a good look for young women to want to be paid for spending time with their boyfriend. Also, when I was young we had a word for women who expected to be paid for their time, but it's rather ugly and I will not use it here. There also is the consideration that if she paid her bills, she could borrow this money from a bank. If the bank looks at her as a bad risk and does not want to loan her money, that is a clear sign that you should not do so either. And I'm not saying she is lying but you have only her word that this debt was made by an ex-boyfriend and not by her. That brings up the question of whether she filed a police report if an ex stole money from her. This whole thing just smells fishy.

The caller who owed on school loans she thought she consolidated had different servicers. She wasn't aware of them and doesn't check credit so when she consolidated she only gave the loan consolidation company the servicer she knew about.
Funny that both Ken and Rachel pronounce "asterisk" as "asteRICK."
Yet they always say the word "risk" perfectly.

Oh the Zander Insurance "Identity Theft" call was scuzzy in the extreme 😮 Ych a fi, the poor woman was terrified and you didn't listen to her - only plugged another insurance product. What on earth is happening on this show? First we've got "Doctor" JD saying if you don't have insurance you must hate your family in a clearly staged discussion with Dave and now this! It so weird that there is no free consumer or govt initiative to keep track of your credit score for free in the USA.
Well if you follow Ramsey you shouldn’t be worried about your credit score.
Every American can check all three credit bureaus for a free credit report once a year. Space them out and check one every four months. And virtually every bank gives a free link to the credit score any time you want to see it. (Credit cards do, too.)

Re: Caleb’s call. My understanding was gazelle intensity was in place until Step 3 is done. So, shouldn’t the advice be to “sell so much stuff that the kids think they’re next”, which would include the truck? I would sell it. Then you’re in Step 4 and saving intentionally to upgrade the $15K vehicle that you purchased with what was leftover from the sale of the dream truck. The money lost on the truck is your stupid tax. I think Ken and Jade need some remedial baby step lessons. 😂
