  • Hey everyone! Sorry for missing the past two weeks, life’s been busy. So I figured I’d restart with a quite popular Railfanning location, and that being Monroe St. in Carleton, Michigan. As I explain in the video, this was once a very bustling junction between the C&O/CSX and GTW/CN. Today, it only sees 10 to 15 daily CSX trains, and about 6 movements a week from the I&O running up to Flat Rock and then returning west.
As of 2020, CN no longer runs their trains on this portion of the Flat Rock Subdivision since they would have to pay the AAR to use their trackage along the way. Why CN still owns this line from Diann to Flat Rock? Beats me. They even installed PTC on the line and the I&O has to comply.
The crossing signals here definitely still have a little bit of remnants of the past, with all of the main mast lights still being incandescents. Typical for CSX, but for CN, not really. I also completely forgot to mention how this crossing is wired. The easiest way to put it, CN’s signal only activates when the I&O runs on their track, otherwise that signal stays completely off for a train on CSX.
if you read this whole description, shout out to you, and I hope you enjoy this video!

What really irks me with CSX: they do a partial replacement of lights and not the whole thing.. If you are upgrading the signals to LED's, do the entire thing.. Looks tacky

right lol, both CSX and NS love to use older equipment like incandescent lights and mechanical bells until they fail
