My best friend Del, age 78, died last January. Because her family and friends were scattered and many unable to travel, there was not a funeral service. But Del always wanted Handel to be played at her funeral. This rendition of Largo would have been perfect.

Now this is violin playing in the Grand Tradition! It’s a style from the Golden Age that is all but forgotten today. Mr. Zalai is a true “keeper of the flame.” He plays this piece as if he were an opera singer. Personally speaking, this how I like my Baroque music. Played on a modern instrument and with heart, gut, and soul.
Played on a Strad actually otherwise completely agreed. And the gut strings from the Heifetz setup make the sound even more mellow. Antal is an absolute maestro, I once had the privilege to listen to him live.
I love that the accompanying piano includes the oft-missing trill. Even most piano solo performances are missing it. But I think it really enhances the phrase, if done gently and smoothly, as was done here.
Maestro Antal, just to say that this magic touch of sound comes from your heart and from your soul. Congratulations indeed!!! Thanks a lot for all your time and dedication poured in these videos that make us feel like a brand new, specialy in these difficult moments that we have to face. A big hug, from Lima Peru

A German soldier climbed out of his trench on Christmas Eve 1914 at the Western Front in Flanders, and played this on his violin. All along the front, British and German men, 100,000 of them altogether, stopped shooting and wondered what the war was about. The brotherliness persisted, until their officers brought it to an end a week later.
I cried when I read this! Whatever justification do we have for a war! Any war at all.... But it all starts in the home.... We all quarrel and fight in the homes due to the absence of love and understanding...
