I just got one of these in its original box, with all the pieces in their original boxes. Everything present, cables, handle, everything. Even included a 12v cigarette lighter car adapter brand new in the box as well. I just opened it up last night and was blown away at how nice everything is, and how well it’s built. I need to do some minor repairs to the tape deck and re-foam the speakers, but even with those ailments, it’s a powerhouse. I recently started collecting boomboxes, and this thing blows my beloved Panasonic RX-5150 away in terms of power and fidelity.
I had this unit when I was in the Navy in the 80's. You are correct about the batteries. Carbon batteries back in the day would last maybe 2 hours if you were lucky. With batteries, this thing weighed in at 38 lbs. I would love to find one again. Most awesome BOOM BOX on the market. Even to todays standards.
That brings back fond memories. I was in High School, 1980's, worked a lot, didn't buy much; saw the JVC PC-5 at JC Penney's for $200.00 and had to have it. Didn't have the case though, that would have been convenient. I rode around Southern California, Orange County, on my skateboard at a lean 146lbs., with that on my shoulder, blasting out Van Halen, Scorpions, Judas Priest and the like. When I detached the speakers, I could separate the components and slip them into my locker, then put the speakers on top. That locker grew in popularity. Eventually, my brother and a friend of his stole it to buy drugs just before I entered the Navy. Thanks for the memory trip.
Loudness adds more bass at lower volumes.
Thanks! That makes more sense

I bought one of these in 1982 when I was at the Royal Air Force Technical Training School at RAF Cosford. Had it for many years - it's a great system.
