I don’t know if that was intentional or not, but it’s a pretty clever way of showing how Regina is an apex predator, by showing her as the calm, collected and intelligent predator who doesn’t act with force unless necessary. Because what animal is the most intelligent predator in the world? What animal can talk, carry a gun, and strategize more than any other animal? Humans.
This was my favourite song in the whole movie. Janice and Damien have AMAZING voice, the high-school kids animal choreo, Regina strutting around being the leader of the pride and Reneé's "get in loser" and "come here" finger gesture which inspired a whole new generation of gays! Masterpiece!!!

It’s so good but people probably don’t like the movie because the ad didn’t advertise the movie it’s a musical. Or they think that it’s a remake of the original movie. But it’s just a spin off of the musical that was produced in 2017
In the broadway version, the best part is when Janice sings "She doesn't know yet" to mean that Cady doesn't know what she's getting herself into, and Cady repeating "She doesn't know yet" to mean the opposite, and that Regina doesn't know what she's getting HERSELF into with inviting Cady into the Plastics. The duet made so much more sense than this.
The movies composition and acting is pretty great! The only issue I had was the soundtrack. It kinda felt like it gutted the original soundtrack and got rid of the musical theatre elements and turned it all into pop. It was just a bit disappointing to a lot of theatre kids and existing mean girls musical fans.
It's good though, dont get me wrong I watched the theaters too but listening to them on a new genre is just refreshing. Also it would be boring if they still bring up theater genre to film.
I always found the musicality vs the lyrics of this musical pretty lackluster. Some of the best changes made the soundtrack a bit more exciting, like this. It gives it more of an edge.

People act like the entire thing was a flop, but I think the majority of the casting was great. Unfortunately, part of what makes it come off as so bad is 1. They didn't make it super obvious it was a musical in the trailers so many people came in expecting something different 2. A few of the casting choices for EXTREMELY IMPORTANT characters was off. If you have to CHANGE THE SONG because your actor can't reach those notes or sing in that style or your actor refuses to sing in your MUSICAL movie--you cast the wrong people.
Absolutely LOVE this song and arrangement! Does anyone else feel that making this a duet between Janis and Damian vs. Janis and Cady like in the stage musical strips a bit of Cady's character, though? Maybe "strips" isn't the right term since what I'm talking about was added in the stage musical but in that version, this song takes place at the mall and makes it clear that Cady understands who Regina is and is natively making the decision that if it ever came down to it she'd choose Regina over Janis. I loved that change since it not only foreshadows her character arc but also shows she knows what she's getting into but thinks she can handle it, making Regina's betrayal at the Halloween party that much worse. The sense I get from the new movie is Cady is kinda going with the flow and treating Janis and Damien like they're exaggerating who Regina is because Janis and Regina have history. But I've also only seen clips of the new movie, not the full film, so I could be missing context that shows the changes to Cady's character from the stage musical were kept in the new movie.

The movie definitely takes away from Cady's autonomy and treats her more like Janis' puppet than the original movie where you watch Cady strategically turn into a mean girl

one of my main problems with this song is that at 2:15 it sounded like they auto-tuned Damien and Janices voice. They're really talented and didn't need it. Also for the last part "no she doesn't know yet. How can you outsmart the apex predator?" I thought that was one of the best parts of the song and also one of Janice's- I'm really upset they took that

I can't tell if I like this song more or less than the Broadway version. On one hand, the new modern sound that goes with this song in this version sucks. However, I love how this is given to Damian and Janis instead of Cady and Janis. Just think it works better.
In the musical this has gotta be one of my favorite songs but in the movie it just really degrades it
