My friend and I started playing MtG on Onslaught block and Akroma was one of those card that blow our minds. For us it was the ultimate creature. Great video as always Lorebrarian :)
I started playing in onslaught when I was 6 years old. My cousin build my first 2 decks for me 1 was a green elf, the other was a black zombie but he always had a white deck with Akroma in his collection. Reminds me of the days playing magic for 10 hours a day! Good times!
Hi There!! Great Video, I loved the story, in fact I have an Akroma, angel of fury commander deck, and I just bought an Akroma memorial as an addition, which is powerful but more importantly, super flavorful. I was wondering, where do you get all this information from? Do you just deduce it from the cards or have you also read the comics, novels, etc? Cheers!
Thanks, glad you liked it and that sounds like an awesome commander deck! So I've got a list of references in the description and that's where most of the info comes from. The rest is inferences from art or flavor text and then a little creative license to spin a nice tale.
Many of them are first introduced in the precons, and do not have enough story to do a full video on. However, I've done minute myth videos on Kelsien and Atraxa! Do you have suggestions?
@@TheLorebrarians 90% agree minus some of the power levels but again way better and threats that would make most mtg villains looks like gnats. an example being yawgmoth , the lord of waste who challenged multiply god like planeswalkers himself which even the eldrazi could not fit into this threat category as they were taken out by post mending walkers making me question their threat level in comparison. but again i got tired of to much power and wish for more plane based threats(kinda more like kaladesh minus the gatewatch and bolas intervention) instead of threats to a plane( like new phyrexia to mirrodin).
I remember when I read the novels during the time and I was laughing my butt off at the thought of a crazy guy who was so obsessed over his dead love that he made another but in angel form which would lead the world into near ruin. Then many years later in 2020 I laughed just as hard when I heard a virus with the same name of Karona wrecking people. It was easily the most ironic moment I’ve ever experienced.

Thank you! That's so cool, she is definitely a big, scary threat from the older days of MTG
I pulled Akroma when I just started playing and Legions was new. I was in love.
She's an amazing and vengeful angel

I made some money on it’s 1st release by drawing 4 Akroma in a single day on 6 boosters. Lady Luck is on my side that day.
Thought about covering a legendary creature from any commander precon? (Planeswalker or not)

I'd love to hear any info on the ur-dragon
great video and love the old lore to an extent (godlike power got annoying).
Thank you! Yes, some of the older lore with full scale novels and stories felt much richer than some of the newer things

Just great!!!
Really interessting video. Can you please tell me where the backround you use at 5:04 is from?
It is the most recent illustration for the card "Akroma's Vengeance"
@@TheLorebrarians Thank you!! I am a sucker for art work, so i am nof exagerating when i say you made my day :)
I am also a huge sucker for art :)
Can you please put all of your magic lore audio on your Spotify? My favorite lore channel, but I like to close my phone while I listen.
Thanks
When a video on the lore of Latulla?
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll probably cover some of the older stories after I do a few Kaldheim videos
@@TheLorebrarians nice. I think there may be nice similarities between the Kaldheim and Kjeldor lore!
"the death wurms were no match for Akroma's forces and Akroma could do little but slow their advance" ?
Misspoke right there. 😅 The forces were no match for the wurms

6:20 - "Ixidor's illusory forces" - pronounce "illusory" like you would "illusion". "ill-use-your-ree" and not "ill-you-soar-ree".
My God, early MTG was full of scum bags. Nobody was a hero in Dominaria, just ppl with ulterior motives
Dang, the women in this story were written like masochistic tools, yeesh
That's 80s and 90s nerd culture for you
Oh gee whiz another sjw crawling out of the woodwork to enlighten us on the "proper" ways to portray women in a fantasy card game.
