I know it's impossible to not make missplays or not notice some things when playing, but I wanted to share what I've noticed anyway: * At 4:50 when Mitch played Manakin, Jake should've lost 1HP because of his mandatory Carnival of Souls's trigger (doesn't matter for the result of the game) * At 11:00 when Alek is choosing target for his Soul-Guide Lantern, he can't cycle the Triome in response. Targets have to be chosen as the triggers appear on the stack and nothing can be done in response. Players may respond only after the trigger is on the stack, at which point the target is already set (doesn't matter, because he could have kept priority on his own Faith's Reward and cycle the Triome in response. So it was a missplay, but he could have sequenced his plays to achieve the same result, so it doesn't matter) Otherwise a really good showing, especially on the Alek's side - it's gotta be super easy to miss something when piloting this deck

For real though I could watch a video where Alek breaks down the deck, it sincerely would feel like a Masterclass and be really enjoyable content in my opinion.

As a long-time player of these types of decks, I can give some good advice so that your friends don't end up hating you: Learn as many of the infinites as you can. It greatly speeds up the game when you memorize some contained loops and what they net you, so that you can avoid this messy, boring kind of gameplay. If he noticed a loop that gets him +1 card and no extra mana, even, he could just avoid playing everything and just keep drawing for the loop without physically acting it out. Then he could find a pyrite spellbomb or other loop (walking ballista etc too) and then do that loop till everyone is dead. The #1 downfall of the decks and reason that no one likes playing against them is the pilot wasting people's time with unnecessary steps. This could have been a 5 min video lol.
And you do realize they go through the trouble of the long gameplay and all the steps to show us viewers, right? Not all of us are Vets at the game and know every combo for every card. It’s quite enjoyable seeing something new and learning how to do it. That’s the beauty of magic.

11:18 So Alek has to respond to the faith's reward cast by cycling savai triome. Cycling ST can't be performed in-between faith's reward resolving and the items put on the battlefield ETB triggers being added to the stack. After the resolution of the very first Faiths Reward.. the permanents return to field. All triggers And Targets go on stack. The only legal target for the Soul-Guide Lanterns trigger was the Faiths Reward in his graveyard. You cannot respond to the trigger- cycle a land- and when the trigger resolves Choose a new target. The faiths reward was the only legal target and it would have been exiled thus he would have shut himself off from the loop. Also- very early on in the game- once established the biblioplex assistant - he had a loop present with the reward and excess mana and draw inside the loop. Even forgoing the fact that he punted and everyone missed it- the game took 20 minutes longer than required. But thats how magic goes sometimes. 🙏🥳🙏

I think he just missed it. It can happen when you’re going through a ton of triggers that you miss the quickest way to win. Still, I think showing a game like this can help demonstrate some complicated interactions for newer players and good etiquette for players who are on the other side of long turns.
I think the issue here would have been to find a more efficient kill that would have dealt more damage / lifeloss before he decks himself to the look. He had to draw a significant part of his deck to get to a point where he could have looped wishclaw and non-draw artifacts to keep the loop going. Also, many of the rocks needed to be sacked in order to come back in untapped. It would have been much Risker to loop those draws to only deal 2 to target player per Faith's Reward Loop.
See, at my lgs we have a house rule on decks like that. The moment you start a combo like that you’re obligated to buy the rest of the table dinner. Best use of that rule was when Bob told the table “We’re having steak and eggs tonight!”
My man Jake really came in to my personal first video seeing him and just got used as a punching bag lol Good game! It's refreshing to see everyone not only take that nasty combo in stride, but otherwise to just be impressed by it. I personally was not expecting a twenty minute turn three for the win
I am sure Alek could demonstrate some loops and shortcut most of the turn. Not an expert, but KCI + Coveted Jewel + Faith's Reward + Biblioplex Assistant nets a huge amount of colored (gains 3 spends 1) and uncolored (gain 6 spends 3) mana and draws (two extra besides Faith's Reward) the entire library, right?
i honestly dont understand how people enjoy playing this kind of magic. turn 3, people have played a few lands, oh noone has an answer to KCI lets scoop and go again yay.
Small sequencing problem. With the 1st faiths reward, he needed to have the triome in the graveyard before the ETBs went on the stack. Otherwise he was obligated to exile the Faith's reward because it was the only legal target when the ability went on the stack. Now, he had the mana to cycle the land I assume he already had in his hand so it's not such a big deal in a friendly game.
LoL, after 2 minutes of that combo my table would ask: Do you have a winning condition? To which I would say: Yes I do And then they would take a deep breath and scoop.
Turns like that are fun to watch, but it makes me appreciate my 3-4 card ashaya “make infinite mana then dump it into a source that kills everyone instantly” turn 3 combos even more.
Why not just present the loop and shuffle and play another game? Spinning the wheels needlessly takes up a lot of time. Not just yours, but everyone's who has to sit there and watch. Kinda disrespectful imho. And if he didn't know/see the loop, I advise to actually know the deck you are playing, especially if you play this type of deck.
While watching Alek pull off his combo on turn 3 was cool, can we see a rematch of the other 3 decks (Alek playing something else, or a silly "so Alek won, so let's see who wins a 3-player match")
You can only sacrifice Wishclaw Talisman in response to it's activation. You can not sacrifice it in the middle of it's resolution to avoid having another player gain control of it.

Also, many of the rocks needed to be sacked in order to come back in untapped. It would have been much Risker to loop those draws to only deal 2 to target player per Faith's Reward Loop.
It's great to let a game like this Egg the players once in awhile.
Alek top-decked a real winner of a hand there - turn 3 insanity, kci for golden pig of that deck for sure! Great job piloting the deck, brother!
Well edited. Thank you for the show.
Now I need another game for Mitch to play solitaire with jhoira
So the whole episode is “Turn 3”.
Cool.
eeeey I'm gonna buy a Breya Egg deck that I made at some point, nice to see one here!
It would be cool to get some guest players, like maybe the Professor? or one of the guys from the Command Zone?
Mitch Not playing 5 colors? Is this really commander's Quarters? lol I like seeing the diversity.
See, at my lgs we have a house rule on decks like that. The moment you start a combo like that you’re obligated to buy the rest of the table dinner. Best use of that rule was when Bob told the table “We’re having steak and eggs tonight!”
just wanted to say I am a huge fan of Breya and come back to watch Alek wreck face on this episode quite often. Inspiring play, truly.
My man Jake really came in to my personal first video seeing him and just got used as a punching bag lol
Good game! It's refreshing to see everyone not only take that nasty combo in stride, but otherwise to just be impressed by it. I personally was not expecting a twenty minute turn three for the win
Well played Alek! I didn't check the video timer until it got to turn 4, and he just, kept, going. Amazing stuff.
He did have them dead on board with the pyrite spell bomb like halfway through the video
Why did I sit here to watch a fifteen minute turn three
I am sure Alek could demonstrate some loops and shortcut most of the turn.
Ok, I understand the goal of putting crazy combos. But... Alek had infinite tutors, why not tutor a simpler combo and finish the game?
i honestly dont understand how people enjoy playing this kind of magic. turn 3, people have played a few lands, oh noone has an answer to KCI lets scoop and go again yay.
Wow Breya doing Jhoira things
Small sequencing problem. With the 1st faiths reward, he needed to have the triome in the graveyard before the ETBs went on the stack. Otherwise he was obligated to exile the Faith's reward because it was the only legal target when the ability went on the stack.
Now, he had the mana to cycle the land I assume he already had in his hand so it's not such a big deal in a friendly game.
LoL, after 2 minutes of that combo my table would ask: Do you have a winning condition?
To which I would say: Yes I do
And then they would take a deep breath and scoop.
“Thanks for coming guys watch me go off.”
@TheCommandersQuarters what app do you guys use for life totals? Looks awesome!
That was beautiful, well done guys 👏🏼👏🏼
Holy crap Alek, that deck is wild
Turns like that are fun to watch, but it makes me appreciate my 3-4 card ashaya “make infinite mana then dump it into a source that kills everyone instantly” turn 3 combos even more.
And people think Narset and Sen Triplets are bad?
Edit: I just looked up Alek's deck and nearly crapped my pants at its price.
After part way through that second loop they should have called it.
Awesome game but definitely hoping to see more videos where you all play
Could you please replay this without Alek so we can actually see the 3 other decks
21:40 anyone know the song, the link they put is wrong
I love the life counter they use lol what is that? I might wanna get it
Great performance from Alek. I really enjoyed watching how he pilot this deck.
Eddie: SEAL team Sphinx
This video is going to be my new sleep aide.
I loved this video, absolutely amazing. That’s not sarcasm
I think this translates well to this game but one thing I learned in Muay Thai is: Sometimes you're the nail and sometimes you're the hammer.
You can only sacrifice Wishclaw Talisman in response to it's activation. You can not sacrifice it in the middle of it's resolution to avoid having another player gain control of it.
