- On December 8th, 2023, Officer Banks and Gardner were dispatched to an apartment for a domestic battery incident in Elgin, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainant, who accused his girlfriend of battering him. The officers did not observe any injuries to him or any redness in the areas he described. They then entered the apartment to obtain a statement from the girlfriend accused of battery.
After her arrest, DCFS (Department of Children & Family Services) were notified due to children being present in the residence at the time of the incident.

That sounds like a great idea. Here in the US that would fall under state jurisdiction, so there's going to be a lot of variation. I would expect in every state the CPS (Child Protective Services) or the local equivalent would be notified and would conduct their own investigation, as what happened in this case. Actual child abuse charges will depend on the circumstances. For example, in my state, driving drunk with a minor in the car I think is automatically a child abuse charge. In other cases it certainly depends on how drunk you are (by your behavior more than BAC or levels of drugs in your system), the age/maturity/independence of the child, and the nature of whatever caused police officers to be dispatched to the scene.
