    I know it's old but I'd also include Mother Brain in Super Metroid. Once you reach a certain point in the fight, which doesn't take much to get to, it's almost impossible to lose. I like that the Metroid saves you and grants you a super weapon but after that you can basically just stand there and hold the shoot button. Was kinda hoping for more.

    • @CyberdustStudios
      @CyberdustStudios Год назад +1

      It was intentionally done that way. Samus had been rescued by the Metroid hatchling and healed her only to be killed by mother brain. Samus, armed with a super laser, in an act of vengeance, blasts mother brain until she is dead. If they really wanted to make it a challenge, they would not have added those scripted sequences throughout the fight. This was because they wanted to make the fight serve the narrative, to leave an impact, which made it all the more memorable.
      If substance is what you prefer in terms of bosses over spectacle, i respect that. But I don't think its worthy of being on this list though.

      No it doesn't lol. the human reaper from ME2 was the perfect representation of how awful a lot of the writing was in that game. ME2 had great visuals, voice acting, music, etc. But what really carried it was the characters. The issue is that all of that merely helped hide just how bad the main plot of the game was and how nonsensically it plays out. Seriously, it's clear that almost nothing in the plot was planned out, and the human reaper is the perfect microcosm of the terrible writing. The lore behind the human reaper is just stupid. There's no other way to put it. It's made even worse by the fact that ME1 had a great plot and storytelling. ME2 added a co-lead writer, Mac Walters, and it really, really, really showed. It shows even more in ME3 when he became the lead writer.
      The human reaper was fine as a 'final boss' in that it was a big monster that you have to fight, and the gameplay was... fine. Not good, but not bad. Just fine. The issue was with the design and the lore implications and how utterly asinine they were lol.

    Sure, lore-wise it shows that not even death can keep the series's main villain down, there was no build up to his reveal. The right to be final boss should have gone to Vanny.

    There's a difficult dichotomy for games where the antagonist is not some form of 'super creature' or such, but a 'mastermind' or 'leader of troops' type adversary. Colonel Autumn is disappointing for not being a beefy boss fight just for the sake of a beefy boss fight... Frank Fontaine is disappointing for being a beefy boss fight just for the sake of a beefy boss fight.
    I remember this sort of conversation all the way back to N64 Goldeneye where Alex is a crazy bullet sponge for no reason (other than he's the last boss) despite being just a human in plain clothes.
    I'm genuinely wondering what the correct answer is when the adversary is Just A Guy who schemes or leads forces. You can go the "sudden overdose on ADAM" or "Nanomachines, son!" route, sure, but that still puts a villain whose primary threat was never physical brutality, in the position of being a primary threat solely of physical brutality, like Joker in Batman for instance dosing up on Titan. Or you can put them in a huge mech or something, but that doesn't feel right unless it's already their schtick (Robotnik and Wiley get a pass on that for instance, but it'd be really weird for Uncharted). How do you close out games with a mastermind type villain (instead of a brute type) satisfactorily, without giving them 11th hour super powers?

    Eveline from Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is the worst final boss fight in RE line up. the fact that you don't move around and it is a camera move type boss. is really boring and she's just a giant mold monster is pretty weak compare to the Baker family and Mother Miranda and The Four Lords in Village.

  • @Quole1234
    @Quole1234 Год назад +1

    the human reaper from ME2 was the perfect representation of how awful a lot of the writing was in that game.

    One final boss that I found pretty underwhelming was The Lady in Little Nightmares. The battle against her doesn't last longer than a few minutes, and I found, compared to other enemies, that the whole fight itself was pretty easy. I personally found battling against The Janitor and evading the Twin Chefs to be a hella lot harder. But that's just me.

    He is so bloody easy, Phase 1 is all about block > strike 1x > block > strike 1x > repeat.

    I disagree about Far Cry 3's Hoyt here, because his boss fight was QTE done well, preceded by a very tense Poker game scene, where Hoyt suddenly kills Sam and cuts Jason's finger, then they had tense talk and mutual strikes, and when his hallucination ends we see Jason managed to do a bloodbath in that closed room, not to mention doing a frantic run to save his younger brother Riley.
    I would easily replace it with Joseph Seed in Far Cry 5, where somehow he suddenly turns all your main guns for hires against you and he multiplies himself during the gunfight... very lame.

    For me it's Legaia 2: Duel Saga. I liked the mechanics of the Legaia games, and Cort, the final boss of the first game, was intimidating and memorable. The final boss of the second game, Avalon, is a generic Martial Arts Guy who wants to destroy humanity for... some reason?
    Also Vexx, because Dark Yabu was frustrating and difficult as hell, and also because the fight was super long and you had to start over at the beginning every time you died, which was often.
