Kevin, just a note on buying rod on Amazon. On the last 3 orders the tubular container (screws together in the middle) was broken. They packaged a the tubes i ordered in a box that was about 3"x10"x40" with 3 little sheets of wrapping paper. That was the last time I bought from Amazon. Maybe now they are packaging better??
Repairing a break in old cast iron what TIG rod (or rod types) might be best to use? Aluminum bronze, Silicon bronze, ER308, or ER309. I believe all would work, maybe 309 more so that 308, but I wanted to get your thoughts on it.
I use them for sculpting, they are the "skeleton" armature underneath my clay. They are great for it and can hold the weight of the clay of a human anatomy sculpture up to a foot and a half in height.
Thank you , Kevin ! If I'm using 3/32 filler rod , would I use a 3/32 tungsten tip and for 1/8 filler rod would I use a 1/8 tungsten tip , I'm still learning and was just wondering ! I finally got my tig set-up ! Help ! Your videos are very helpful ! I'm doing mig , tig , stick and fluxcore welding and have been watching your videos with great success ! Keep up the awesome work ! I drop my welding rods sometimes too ! Lol
Mr. Heiss I use the size of tungsten for the amperage i am running.. Go with the size of filler rod for the joint you are welding and how big of a fillet you want .. Also for how much of a gap you have from a poor fit on the joint..
Thank you ! I will try to keep the gaps to a minimum ! Also ask the LWS , for the right rods ! I will try the 1/16 tungsten first ! I love you wives comments also , great sense of humor ! Keep it up my friend ! I have a Weldcraft CS 300 a little big , I hope it last ! Have a wonderful day !
@@KevincaronSculpture Hi Kevin, Thanks for the reply. I am a wood artist and now find myself with a small metal project. It is to repair a bronze medal with a deep scratch in it. I would like to use the same metal for the fill, so have found another coin that I cut up for possibly using as a filler. How would you approach this task? Thanks so much Mate. Kind regards from Australia. Kal.
I like to use the 1/16 for 16 gauge, the 3/32 for 16 gauge to 1/8 inch depending on fit and the 1/8 inch for 1/8th inch and up. But it can also depend on the size of the weld you are trying to get also.. and the amps you are running,,

What type tig fillet rod for magnesium ( mg )
Sorry, not sure. Have never tried magnesium.
Tig rods are they like 7018 or 6010 rods ??
Not at all. Far as I know they are just super clean steel, aluminum or whatever you are welding. No flux.
@@KevincaronSculpture what I meant was 6010 is use for many things but it’s known for penetration and then you use 7018 to cover
Very nice
How can we weld copper sheet 2mm thick with 1.5mm thick stainless sheet 304 grade. Please help.
I would try silicon bronze and see how that works. Definitely a tig job for sure.
Dear Kevin, May I ask you a question regarding filler rods, for a small project I am working on? Thank you in advance. Regards, Kal.
I will help if I can! What do you want to know?

@@KevincaronSculpture PS- I emailed you the image pertaining to my question. Thanks so much, Kalman.
Just got the photo. I would not touch that coin at all! You will ruin any value it has by trying to fix that scratch.
