I’m glad you touched upon the visa issue for Mexico. It can be very difficult for nationalities that need a visa. I’ve been straight up told by a Mexican Consulate that my wife should just get a US visa and then doesn’t need a Mexican visa. Years ago when that happened and she is a US citizen now. Likewise it can be difficult to fly from Asia to Mexico without going through the US. Malaysia is a great choice. It’s a beautiful place and affordable.

Thanks for choosing and loving Malaysia 🇲🇾. Since Malaysia’s independence, we only did not recognized a state/country/nation, and that’s Israel 🇮🇱. Even in Malaysian passport, it’s stated clearly that Israel is the only place we cannot access/travel to. We totally have no diplomatic relations or ties with Israel. Even we have diplomacy with North Korea. Until the recent assassination/murder of the President’s own brother in Malaysia soil in recent years ago, that soured both nations’ relations which resulted in the shut down of North Korea Embassy in KL, which initiated by their side single-handedly. Hopefully we could reconcile the diplomatic relationship again in the near future, as Malaysia’s foreign diplomatic policy is always preferable towards having friends than enemies😊

A close friend of mine (with Asian passport) was recently denied boarding to Mexico despite having permanent European residency, plus UK and US Visas... When trying to file an official complaint about the airline not knowing their own boarding regulations, he received an endless list of paperwork to provide (only feasible if you're idle and not a busy executive). He eventually just flew into Mexico with a different airline, sucked the lost time and money up, and promised to never again fly with the inefficient Mexican airline (Volaris).
So just imagine the nightmare of getting all your own paperwork in order, just to have a random airline employee deny your boarding to Mexico because he dislikes your passport. It's a lottery Nomad Capitalist wouldn't want to play.

Too many border issues with KL for those who work in certain fields for certain large businesses - if one's work and their leisure travel are different, countries shouldn't pair the two when looking at tourism or conference entry at the border, especially when the person isn't a Politically Exposed Person.

The problem with Malaysia is the past 5 years they foolishly decided to screw around with MM2H (but eventually when applications plummeted they backtracked) and they also eliminated territorial taxation and then realized it was causing capital flight and backtracked for 5 years. This whiplash is not good for long term planning, wealthy people plan on 10Y timeframes.

They still haven’t said what is going on with FSI past Dec 31 2026 which is a little over a year away. People with money need to plan in 10 year intervals, if they want anyone to do the silver and platinum MM2H packages they need to provide at least 10 years and preferably 15 years of certainty.

I've lived and worked in both (Malaysia and Mexico) for long periods of time. Both have plenty to offer. Both have lovely and kind people. Both have downsides. I currently live in Mexico and I love it. But I could just as easily live in Malaysia. They are really NOT competitors.

I have experienced both of the countries, as well, and the downsides of Mexico is just too extreme to bear. Cartel is a big problem no matter what they say. You heard this and that made a pact not to interfere in a certain state, and then the next thing you know, the very same ones making pact is executing the rival in a broad daylight, while said rival is chilling in a Starbucks. Not an isolated issue, as well. My beloveds there lives in a supposedly protected neighbourhood and still there's so many "offing" happening, doesn't matter what time of the year, that can be traced back to current/former drug activity of the deceased. It's common to hear gunshots, too. We don't normalize that in Malaysia, even in the most ghett*-est of places.
Plus, in Mexico, even if you pay top dollars for private health facilities, they still send you on a treasure hunt, as if you don't already suffer from the indignity of being sick and disabled (even if temporarily). You went to an appointment in one place, get tested in another, get the result in a third place, then a different place for a different test, then a whole other place for the diagnosis. You also have to get your own prescribed meds from another premise. Best of all, this humbling experience comes with paying for private treatment (rather than using the cheaper ones under the government's facilities). In Malaysia, even the public facility is an all-in-one experience already, and for the money you paid for private treatment? You're getting 5 star hotel level of accommodation, no doubt.

They say both is safety & comfort, both have downside but easy to live!!
      Honestly, bullshit & Liars
Of course both country have bad downside, like anywhere & any country have good & bad side!!
But as you mentioned, gangs & cartel in MEXICO & ALOT LATINOS (SOUTH AMERICA country) is unacceptable & ridiculous jokes!!!
Gangs & drugs cartel is LEGAL AVAILABLE & OWN THE STREET, OWN THE TOWN, OWB THE CITY!!!
A whole country, Gorvement & with military support cant fk even solves criminals’ gangs!!! What a weak-ass & correction gorvement!!
In alots mexico small city, town & village, if you want move from this village to that village it need locals people help & guide.
Ppl say, you have respect them & avoid them then they will let you go freely, no problems!! It not usually happened like this!!
I don’t say all areas in Mexico is unsafe & own by gangs, cartels but mostly areas!!
This is not happened like that in Malaysia!!
Not just Malaysia but mostly Southeast Asia is like that, it safer than Mexico & alots South America country!!
