This Belleville K Mart was my late mother's go to store back in the good old 1980's, it was always busy. She shopped there for everything. Makes me sad to see it abandoned like this.
I'm a Belleville resident. I had fond memories of this place. First toy I remember picking out myself, got my F-Zero for SNES from here as well for my birthday when it first came out. Fact on this location: In the 80's pushing early 90's this location on the back right of the store (before the Lay Away) there was a FULL CAFETERIA! You go in, get chicken fingers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs etc.
K Mart was an awesome store back in the day. I don’t care for Walmart and Target any more. I’m glad a Meijer opened near me. I never shop the other 2 now. Thanks for the great video.
We still use every year the Martha Stewart Christmas tree we bought at the Kearny K Mart store on Passaic Ave.back in 2006, huge tree ,my wife and I love it, paid $200 for it ,lights built-in.
If this reply was to me oh no i used to shop Zarye hills jamesway ames ect. Im not no fan of wal mart. i ment wal mart stores sucked i guess i should have been more forward to what I ment.
I grew up going to this Kmart.. I knew it was going bad when their electronics section was getting thinner and thinner. I visited this Kmart after about 7 years in 2018 and it was a shell of what it once was. A little sad walking around but I did it for the nostalgia.
Now you have to travel at least 4 miles for 'discount' store, a Target in Clifton, NJ. I have been by that store many time. Who knows what will replace this store or its site. Across the street is a strip mall that now has an LIDL supermarket but originally had a Grand Union supermarket, later an A&P then A&P 'Food Basics' discount supermarket.
I used to work at a Kmart in North Carolina which closed down in 2014, I still ride by there every now and then but after years they're finally doing something with the building.
I, used to work for Kmart. I, worked at the Mt.Clemens,Michigan from April 28, 1985 until May 8,1996. I, worked at the Mt. Clemens, Michigan Kmart for 11 years. Kmart has Closed Permanently on Sunday May 8,1996. When, I hired in at Kmart was during the S.S.Kresge Company/The Kmart Corporation Era. Kmart Closed Permanently at 1:30pm on Mother's Day. I remember when Kmart's logo was the big red K and turquoise mart. The, Kmart Store that I worked in was built in 1967 and I still remember the old Kmart, parking lot IN and OUT signs. Kmart, has been using those IN and OUT parking lot signs since Kmart was founded in 1962.
This, Kmart Store reminds me of the Kmart Store, located on Gratiot and 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield, Michigan. This, had the Garden Shop, and the Auto 🚘 Center in the same building. It, was located in the Gratiot Crossings Strip Mall. Since, Kmart Closed Permanently, the Kmart Building became a Hobby Lobby Store and a Big Lots Store. When, I worked at Kmart, after it closed, and I got a job at Meijer.
There is an abandoned KMart in Tewksbuy, MA that has been empty a long time. Also in Salem, NH and Billerica, MA. There is an abandoned Ames with exterior sign in Seabrook, NH.
Yes Wallie that old abandoned Kmart looks clean compared to others, this one can be bought by another store or it can be a thrift shop. Just clean it up a little and your good to go. Thanks for sharing.👍👍🙂
Go way back, early 1980, S.S.Kresge stores. We had one in the Lakeside Mall. When I was in high school we would get a roster beef sandwich on a bun and a cold Coke for maybe $2.50 or so. Many stores had a breakfast-lunch cafe or a coffee counter.
Sucks to see all the kmarts abandoned like they are. We shopped there a lot when I was a kid in the 80s all the way up until 2015 when they closed our local store. ☹
Also, I feel bad for anyone living across the street from KMart. I envy them since all they had to do is cross the street, and get stuff there without using their cars. Clothes, furniture, even food.
Goodvideo the same day you filmed this opened was your nyc trip with Kayla in 2019 you did Kearny nj, Williamsport pa, nyc New York store3 floors, a few abandoned ones all are closed now.
Love your channel. I live by an abandoned Kmart and shop now in the next town at Wal-Mart. I hate Wal-Mart but feel there is no choice. No Meijer nearby.
Man I heard that there are only 4 locations remaining that have KMARTs! But not in my location. I remember going to Kmart. Its just a freaking shame that its almost come extinct! #BringBackKmart
Great video sad to watch I live in that area and used that Kmart my entire life that grocery store across the street used to be a Grand Union which was another store I always shopped at back in the day. In its Heyday that Kmart even had a cafeteria serve really good food but being from the Bloomfield Belleville Nutley area we watched a lot of great places go away from Kmart to Pathmark Grand Union A&P caldor's two guys Bradley's Sears newberry's even when you come down the road to get there you crossover railroad tracks and used to have a lot of great businesses along the line. The tracks are out of service they're being ripped up the businesses are all gone. Times change and so do the places it is just a shame sometimes that the new places aren't as good as the ones they are replacing. Sometimes you get lucky and they are better. In it's day that was a great store.
It's unbelievable that there are only two of these older style Kmarts left in operation which are located in Miami and Westwood. Bridgehampton and two of the locations in the US Virgin Islands are not original Kmart stores since those spaces were previously occupied by other retailers. The rest of the locations in the territories are newer Kmarts that were built in the 90s.
I tell ya man you gotta check out the abandoned Kmart in Silver Spring one of these days. Love your vids, you always document the places that most urban explorers would just gloss over and that’s what I like about ur channel.
@00:06 the KDH KMart... Truly sad... that store was amazing back in the day and as recently as a few years ago. Went in 2017 and they had everything you could think of and need. 2018, yeah it was going down hill but wasn't that bad, 2019, yeah you could tell it was a matter of time. Missed 2020 in the OBX and in 2021 it was gone. Target was supposed to start work on a store there but it has been pushed back even though its still planned. Prior to 2020 I bet that the OBX was the only place you could find a KMart, Radio Shack, and a Piggly Wiggly all in operation. Now its only the Piggly Wiggly left.
Actually construction on the Kmart in Kill Devil Hills, NC to become a Target store started in November 2021 although it won't open until 2023. It was originally planned to open sometime this year. They have put the rest of the construction on hold for now.
@@STSRTF The OBX (Nags Head, all of it was called growing up) is my happy place. Can't wait to be back in August. No matter what is going on in my life, that is the one place I can go to excape it all. Funny thing is in 2019, shortly before I came down there I went to one of the last remaining Sears in Virginia. I knew it was a matter of time for them when I saw a snow shovel for sale in June. Truly sad how Sears and KMart were ran into the ground, although they probably should have been gone years prior.
If you look at your first video from 2019 then this one its interesting to see that at some point they fixed the parking lot from then to when they closed. I was at this store in 2020 cause they didn't have the store closing signs all over yet.
Amazing that the loading dock is open-air like that. I notice that many of the K-mart's / Ames stores you profile have that setup. Seems like an inventory control nightmare to me. Far too easy for merch to "fall off" the truck and into the back of someone's station wagon / pickup truck. When I worked at Caldor almost 30 yearas ago, all the dock doors, the trucks fit up snug against the door frame, with those rubbery bumpers around the edges, you'd struggle to squeeze out a single G.I. Joe between the dock door and the truck.
you know coming from someone who really didn’t grow up with the Kmart era it is pretty sad that soon itll be a thing of the past like Bradlees and Ames I looked up today that there’s only 3 remaining Kmarts in the US ☹️
On an off subject, everything okay with Kayla? I ask out of concern, not invasion. If you guys wish not to say anything, I can respect that. I guess I'm just wondering why she's been in less recent videos. About six months to a year ago, when you'd do the video intro she'd join in. Now, we're lucky if we hear her let alone see her. If it's an embarresment/ self confidence thing, I as a fan can respect her for who she is. I'm a viewer, you're the producers. The producers run the show. I guess as long as you are both happy, that's all that matters. Keep up the great videos of various themes and a spread of positive energy.
Would it be nice if they turn it to Rural King. We got one here in Greenwood Indiana that use to be K mart but the feeling in there is like our K mart never closed.
Lampert only used Sears and Kmart as cash cows for his hedge fund. He has absolutely no heart and just wants to watch both brands die so he can focus on real estate. We are watching both brands die right in front of our faces, while he just does his evil villain laugh.
Once the last 3 United States based Kmarts close down, the only place where Kmart exists will be in Australia. Until Eddie "Lamprey" Lampert tries to buy _that_ too.
This Kmart was my first job at 18yrs old I’ll never forget the company who gave me a chance
Look at the front where it says Ames real big never gets old Lol

I remember when they built Kmart we used to play in there while they were building it when we were kids
I grew up in Belleville, i remember when that store opened, late 70's i believe. Went there for just about everything
Very sad to see. This is where I live and I frequented this store up until the day it closed.
The Kmart in Greenville, Mississippi had those in and out signs
I also despise Wal-Mart, too busy all the time and they helped to knock out K-Mart, along with Eddie Lampert. Great video!!
Seems wal mart has killed all the good stores... and the stores just suck.
Yet you still shopped Walmart since the beginning. You cant ask double the price of something and expect to survive.

Pretty neat to see one of the smaller format Kmart stores with no garden shop. You don’t come across those too often.
I use to go to k-mart shopping as a kid..
I used to shop there instead of going to the one in Kearny. Crazy how the building is now.

We still have Kmart here in New Zealand and Australia have them as well.
Kmart in Australia is not the same company
Kmart there is a completely different company

Here in North East Ohio, that lot would be taken by either Meijers or Menards
Are they like a k-mart / Walmart type of store?
@@Phil_Melone Meijers is a super Center more like Super Target and Menards is a direct competitor to Home depot and Lowes

Good location for a goodwill.
Great video buddy keep it up :D love your videos
Hi whille I'm a fan
You should check out that lidl across the street
Wasn't there one in Nutley too? I used to live in Lyndhurst right across the river.
I really miss Kmart and sears
Good afternoon
Can you upload the kmart in west orange NJ
There's an abandoned hills/ames now Aldi turned furniture store and library and zayre/ames in cleveland now Dave's Mercado

Hey wallie you should do a before and after in the video
Can you do a video of an abandoned Kmart in Edgewater MD
Who can confirm how many Sears stores are remaining in the continental United States? All I know is there are just 3 Kmart stores remaining.
15 Sears in the states plus one in Puerto Rico
I've been to Belleville, NJ.
According to the database. There's only 3 Kmarts still in business...Miami, Florida/New Jersey/New York.
Come up to Blairsville alot of empty places
And even that dombo closed all the sears stores too
2 Kmart in my area are u haul wounded how long that will it be that will make that one a u haul hope not
Seems like a waste of power leaving all those lights on with the store closed.
Reminds me of Target
I definitely preferred kmart over Walmart anyday

it’s changing into Home Depot
