Yes, K-Mart, Sears and Toys R' Us were awesome, I miss their presence. Retail shopping just hasn't been the same since they shuttered around here. I hate it.
About 10-15 years ago I used to make the occasional trip out there just for the Little Caesars inside the Kmart. It was one of the only ones in Pittsburgh before they came back.
I feel that tick tock going on at Kmart was its heartbeat. Trying desperately to survive. As long as you keep making these videos Kmart will live on. Thanks for the video
I went to Hills and K Mart around the holidays when I was a kid. Those were further away from my area (Coshocton, Ohio). Our area had Ames/Murphy's Mart and Fisher's Big Wheel. That's where many of my retail childhood memories are. Thanks for another great one here🙂
Thank you Wallie for this great video. I have lived in this area all my life and I remember when this store opened in the mid 1960's. I really miss having this store in the area. I just want to clarify and add an update to some of the comments that I read. The travel trailers that you saw there actually belong to Meyer's - Schreck RV which is about 5 miles from the K mart plaza. Camping World did have trailers there in the summer of 2021 when they had major construction at their main lot and had to have a temporary sales location due to the construction. When CW was able to move back to their own lot Meyer's - Schreck RV moved some of their trailers onto the lot while they were having a new lot being prepared at the site of the old Washington Twp. High School just south of Apollo. The trailers were there until the spring of this year when the new developer started renovations and are dividing it into 4 smaller stores. Two of the stores are already set up with a Dollar Tree that opened about a month ago and an Ollie's that is scheduled to open next week on October 25. It's nice to see the new owner of the plaza making improvements and making good use of the empty store. There doesn't seem to be any work on the other 2 stores at this time so they may not have tenants secured yet. The Kmart is sadly missed but at least the space is being used for new stores and not left to rot like the plaza across the road where Big Lots is located, that plaza is dead.
Just what this country needs, more dollar stores. Seems like the only thing I ever see built anymore is dollar stores and car washes. There's two on every block, in some places. (ETA: Case in point, a Family Dollar, a Dollar Tree, AND an Ollies, in this ONE strip mall. Jesus.) It's a sad statement on the status of the USA. And Ollie's, UGH. Ollie's is the worst of the worst, in my opinion. Faded, outdated, even expired products, literally covered in dust, floors splattered with black filth, and no organization whatsoever, just disheveled piles on every dirty shelf. I would NEVER buy food, makeup, or medicine from that place! And the one near me isn't even in that bad an area, but they won't even let me carry my bag in the store! I carry my laptop with me, so I have a laptop backpack that doubles as my purse. They wouldn't let me wear it. I had to leave it behind the front counter-and they didn't verify a thing before they handed it back! I love thrift stores and discount outlets. But Ollie's is a shit hole. I won't EVER shop there again. I know that wouldn't bother the company; it doesn't care about my few dollars. But I have my own morals and standards. And they have nothing to do with anyone but myself. Still, I wouldn't be surprised, or sorry, to see Ollie's go tits up. Except for the fact that we're so damned poor in this country now. Sigh.
I grew up 15 minutes from here! This was our Kmart and we used to go here all the time. Used to be a bustling place in the early 2000's even, when i was young. Used to be a Ciceros Pizza in the side. My dad said is was a busy place on the weekends when he was a kid.
Ive lived within 5 miles of this store all my life. Got my first Xbox here, my first job app was for here, most of my friends worked here, learned to parallel park in the parking lot, was the go to stop for groceries and stuff. I miss walking through the aisles here. Especially miss the jolly rancher pop that I could only find here.
Indeed, I recall using the Sears at my local Pheasant Lane Mall for layaway all the time, same with Toys R' Us. I remember fondly when I got my first HDTV off layaway there, a 40" Sony Bravia, and I said to my best friend, "Pinch me dude, I must be dreaming!" He was like, "Okay, here you go." and jokingly did so. I said in response, "Ow, okay okay, it's real!" and the two of us shared a laugh. I was so happy that day. Then I got the wall mount a day or two later, set it up and plugged my 360 and PS3 in with the HDMI cables I got from Five Below (they were stunningly good), and marveled at the difference. Such amazing memories, ones that will never be replicated. Breaks my heart that Sears/K-Mart and Toys R' Us are no longer the same.
Now there's an Ollies and a Dollar Tree in place of that Kmart. My daughter worked at that Kmart up until closing. Everyone thought it was supposed to be an Aldi but it turned out to be an Ollie's. That Pizza Hut closed and now there is only a small takeout Pizza Hut.
I grew up in Apollo about 5-10 minutes down the road, but moved to Johnstown in 2014, so I hadn’t been out towards Leechburg in years because it was out of the way of family. I went down to visit my Dad in May, and we went out to the Wendy’s just down the road from here, and I was absolutely shocked to see the Kmart that I remember always getting my newest LEGO, or Video Games from being disgraced by RV’s. I was assuming they were Shreck RV. It’s like a piece of my childhood being overwritten. Atleast they put in a Taco Bell in the Big Lots Plaza I saw lol. Great Video man, you’ve managed to make me Nostalgic and Homesick lol
I am glad you are still acknowledging Kmart. I am wondering what your opinion is on Spirit Halloween stores replacing many of those chains (Kmart, Toys R Us, etc). I honestly have mixed feelings. On one hand, Halloween is awesome, and I would rather have a Spirit Halloween than an Amazon warehouse (or something similar). However, the store itself is only open a couple months out of the year, leaving the store vacant. It also gives me a reminder that a beloved place is dead (with nothing replacing it) and will only come back as a "ghost" briefly before it.
For those posters who're wondering the Kmarts still there.... As of early October 2022 there's still 9 within the US flag (only 3 in The Lower 48): WESTWOOD, NJ - up the western side of Hudson River just N of NYC, close to the NY State border. BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY - in Suffolk County on almost extreme Eastern Long Island, NE of NYC. KENDALL, FL - in south central Miami Dade County, midway between Miami Downtown and Florida City. and the 6 Island locations in: Hato Rey (San Juan), PR Tamuning, GU and the 4 in VI: 2 in St. Thomas and 2 in St. Croix.
Where I live, at the mall closest to me, the former Sears's parking lot is full of Ford and Lincoln trucks and SUVs, mostly F150s and Explorers. I heard that the Ford factories park them there while they are waiting on ECUs or hard to get parts.
KMart is something I didn't grow up with but I know how much it meant to lots of people. I briefly remember going to one in 2002 that was going out of business. I got some old toys there that I've long since gotten rid of but it's also there where I got to try out the GameCube for the first time in the electronics department. I fell so much in love with that console that I later got it and several games that are now considered valuable/classics. So I've got KMart to thank for my lifelong hobby of videogame collecting. Oh and as for that space that used to be a KMart, it's now a Target last I checked. Interesting how Target managed to replace it similar to how they almost replaced Zellers (the KMart of Canada). Of course Target Canada was a massive failure so that didn't last very long.
Yea I went there a few times when I was younger visiting my late grandma them a few times 5 6 years ago when I was living in leechburg remember my car breaking down in the mcdonalds parking lot one night had to walk through the drive through
The two Pizza Huts being so close together may be because the smaller Pizza Hut can lighten the delivery and takeout load from the sit in Pizza Hut so they can focus more on dine in. In Muscle Shoals, Alabama near where I live they used to have two Pizza Huts one takeout and delivery and one dine in. The dine in one has since shut down and is sitting empty while the takeout and delivery location is still open. They were about a mile apart. There is still another sit down location about 15 miles south of Muscle Shoals in Russellville, Alabama but I'm not sure if the dining room part is still open or not. I guess Pizza Hut is still popular and doing well in Leechburg
The last few locations in Seattle/Tacoma area closed in early 2020 just before COVID kicked off. One specific location that I think was the last to close was not far from where my friend used to work so I would meet up with him there, and once in a while we ran inside but the store was in very very rough condition and the area is not very safe either but the store was always busy so I guess that is why it stayed open so late in the game. The store turned in to a Grocery Outlet and looks like it was renovated ]so good for the locals I bet.
2:30 people just would love to hear that sound and maybe start a band thanks to the Kmart alarm, it still has power since it’s going off, I’m surprised they don’t shut it off but, kinda would be annoying hearing that, you were in one of those campers and all you hear was : tap tap tap tap, your like, what’s that sound? You realize your right next to a Kmart that has an alarm going off, I actually saw a Kmart on google maps, and the door was still open, so someone must’ve walked in there to explore, I would as well. Keep up the great exploring wallie
god damn, the alarm started dying after staying on for so damn long! love your videos! also btw. something you might enjoy, we had a big kmart and aldi. which shut down in i think 2013 or 15 idk lol, but rectnly. the Big Kmart Turned into a Rual King. And the aldi turned into a harbor freight. i am sure you'll love that! i am glad that a kmart got reused.
They are closing the big pizza hut and only going to take out at the new location. Possibly already happened since it's now January. And Kmart is suppose to be getting redeveloped here in the future.
We had a Kmart in are town turn into a coastal miss that store for sure it had little Cesar’s pizza Inside. Love the videos wallie I’m new to the channel and love it if you don’t mind asking what does Kala do for a job your a mechanic I believe I heard you say . Happy thanksgiving guys
I am local to there there was a post the other week on Facebook. That a guy bought the plaza and is going turn the big k into 4 store and it said the first thing was going be a Pizza Hut.
The former Super Kmart you filmed in Corsicana Texas has a similar setup in the parking lot. Trailers and RV's are lined up in the parking lot, but the building is still sitting there rotting away.
The mini pizza hut isn't open yet, but it's had a sign on it for months that says "coming soon". The goal is to eventually shut down the one by big lots and make the mini take out only.
Did you go up the street to the plaza across the bypass? Pretty much empty and the old save a lot still has a light on inside and it closed like six years ago
Update: there is an Aldi going in beside the Ollies by the end of 2024. The owner of that plaza has done a lot to improve the property unlike the plaza on the other side of highway.
I remember going into that big k and it was not a pizza hut it was a little Cesar's in the far left of the back of the store also on the outside of the store there was a truck, dinosaur a ride able train toy, also a coke Machine they just disappeared after that day and the big letters that are now taken down on the left use to spell pharmacy.
The entire western Pennsylvania area is going down the drain slowly. Pittsburgh is about to loose their only newspaper. Walmart ofvthe Waterworks is closing 11/11/22 If i was a corporate manager i would not open a store up there.
A guy did purchase the area and the campers should be being moved. I don’t know when but they are supposed be being moved. The new owner is looking at having some stores come in.
Those campers sure do look nice probably start selling high by next spring i can’t believe there are 3 Kmart left they sure didn’t take there time with them when will the last 3 be gone hopefully not anything time soon great video 😊
It makes me so angry Kmart is gone! I miss shopping there I miss working for them and I just miss that overall feel. They had a much better clothing selection and there overall merchandise was pretty decent quality. Since I no longer have Kmart I go to target a lot now because it kind of reminds me of a Kmart. And believe it or not fun fact some of the merchandise target sells actually is incredibly similar to Kmart. Because stuff that I bought at Kmart looks almost similar to target brands
Also, there was a closeup (3:39) of a sign for CAMPING WORLD, which tells me this summer they used the parking lot as a temporary store (like Spirit Halloween or Phantom Fireworks) for selling campers there. They may have closed it sometime after Labor Day, 2022 but they haven't retrieved the campers yet. Also, Aldi would never lease a (full supermarket sized) location like this, as they're rather small. If, OTOH it'd been a Dollar Store, it'd be the "right size" for it.
Camping World is going thru major reconstruction. Those campers have been parked there for years now. That Kmarts been closed for a while now. But a new developer just purchased the plaza so campers will be getting moved soon. And Kmart will be partitioned up into 3 sections.
If Toys R US can make a comeback,I truly believe K-Mart could have a huge comeback. The world isn't the same without K-Mart.I miss K-Mart !!! K-Mart was such a iconic store in the 70s ,80s and early 90s.Please bring back K-Mart !!! When I was a little kid,my local K-Mart sold vinyl records in the late 70s.It was so much fun to buy vinyl records and then eat at the K-Mart eatery. You could eat at the K-Mart eatery and have good hot food.Great memories indeed.👍When it comes to Walmart, Walmart Stinks and Target is over priced.I agree 100% with you.Alot of the old K-Mart empty buildings are now thrift shops. Smh My local K-Mart in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on south 4th street,is now a storage place. It breaks my heart to not to be able to go to K- Mart anymore.Hopefully ,maybe someday ,somebody or some company, could resurrect K-Mart and bring it back to all of its glory!!! 👍👍🙂🙂✌️
Yes 3 Miami, the one by nyc, and one in nj but they are sadly unfortunately going to close and 2 sears are closing soon the only Washington state believe it’s last one and the last one in ny is :(
So is there really nothing stopping someone from taking a truck there a getting themselves a free travel trailer? I would say it's sad to see K-Mart closed but I never really liked them.
Everyone has their own opinion i respect that but i like super walmart they have some very good store brand products great value brand! Target is okay too high walmart is cheaper and better
Would absolutely LOVE to see someone competent enough to resurrect this company and be able to compete with Walmart.
K mart still exists online but it's not the same.
That would never happen. Lol
Kmart is alive and well in Australia (at least thru the few Aussie friends i have).
Me too, K-Mart and Sears were awesome, I miss their presence.
I would like to see all of the big box stores go under.
I miss Kmart. I would always shop there for Christmas presents on layaway, and my mom would always do back to school shopping back in the day

I think it would be nice if the company that owns Kmart/Target in Australia would bring their stores here!
Target Australia and Target in America have a handshake agreement to not enter each other territories
Target Australia is owned by Kmart Australia.
@@jameshebert5430 That is next level hilariously sad as Kmart took down itself and Sears in the US

Crazy that the sign still lights up. So eerie, especially given the fact the store has been long dead.

Great job on RUclips all your video
In the old Kmart bulid here it has a Ollie's, A Gym and few other stores in it now
1st one to make a comment. It's a shame K-Mart in Leechburg closed because you could get a lot of good deals there.
Its sad to see kmart and sears go.
I miss the Kmart that was near me.
Hills and Ames were some good times. I loved getting free popcorn at Hills and seeing the creepy Halloween aisle at Super Kmart!
It looks like Big K became Big Kamper. I'd love to have one myself.
god damn, the alarm started dying after staying on for so damn long! love your videos! also btw. something you might enjoy, we had a big kmart and aldi. which shut down in i think 2013 or 15 idk lol, but rectnly. the Big Kmart Turned into a Rual King. I miss the early 2000's Super K Mart in Hickory NC, lol ;p
I dated a guy in college from Leechburg. Loved that small PA town. I’m from Erie, PA
Love ur vids 😍 and ur super amazing and wallie is the king at finding abandoned building
I miss caldoor
I miss Kmart too😞😞

Thanks for doing the video
I live by an abandoned Kmart.... since April 12, 2020.
There is an abandoned Kmart near the highway where I live. It closed in 2018.
Someone bought that plaza it was in the paper last week so the campers will leave soon yay!
Hi 👋 Wallie.
I bet that Anytime Fitness in that shopping center was once a Grocery store.
Pretty much that entire side of the plaza used to be a Giant Eagle. We're talking 30ish years ago.
Cool video man
I miss Kmart too
The mini pizza hut isn't open yet, but it's had a sign on it for months that says "coming soon". The goal is to eventually shut down the one by big lots and make the mini take out only.
this is so crazy to see randomly on my youtube. i work at the print shop up the street lol
also an update that kmart is an ollies/dollar general now
Did you go up the street to the plaza across the bypass? Pretty much empty and the old save a lot still has a light on inside and it closed like six years ago
I live close by- yes its a parking lot storage yard. Mall is supposed to be renovated
Update: there is an Aldi going in beside the Ollies by the end of 2024. The owner of that plaza has done a lot to improve the property unlike the plaza on the other side of highway.
There is a abandoned Sears in Newburgh, NY . It was the last open store in entire state of New York.
Good video, I miss K Mart
That Kmart giving off serious backrooms vibes
I remember going into that big k and it was not a pizza hut it was a little Cesar's in the far left of the back of the store also on the outside of the store there was a truck, dinosaur a ride able train toy, also a coke Machine they just disappeared after that day and the big letters that are now taken down on the left use to spell pharmacy.
The plaza was just bought. They are suppose to make the Kmart into 4 stores and are in talks for another grocery store maybe.
Can you come back when camping world is open and review the inside of this big k?
If they were to open a store inside, I sure would.
I miss Kmart as well.
Wal-Mart will be like Kmart in about 20 years.
The reason why there was no grocery store there was because of the clause act that giant eagle had but it has expired
Those campers sure do look nice probably start selling high by next spring i can’t believe there are 3 Kmart left they sure didn’t take there time with them when will the last 3 be gone hopefully not anything time soon great video 😊
I suggest to visit New York New Jersey or Miami Florida to see last Kmart ever
Nice wallie 😃
It makes me so angry Kmart is gone! I miss shopping there I miss working for them and I just miss that overall feel. They had a much better clothing selection and there overall merchandise was pretty decent quality. Since I no longer have Kmart I go to target a lot now because it kind of reminds me of a Kmart. And believe it or not fun fact some of the merchandise target sells actually is incredibly similar to Kmart. Because stuff that I bought at Kmart looks almost similar to target brands
Didn't know there was a Kmart in leechburg thought it was in vandergrift?
Kmart seems pretty busy 😹😹😹
The one babies r us near me did the same thing with their parking lot putting campers and RVs in it for sale.
I know I miss a lot of the store we in johnson city tenn like k mart , hills, rose's without of business to
Sad this Kmart closed I remember this one
I was there the final day it closed. Stopped in by accident and realized it was the last day. Not sure I ever posted that video
@@90scarguy also I didn’t notice this is the first time I was first to comment on wallies videos normally I’m 3rd or 4th :)
Kmarts pretty much everywhere in the country (except a couple locations, which are probably going to close soon) are closed unfortunately.
You did a video of the Marietta, Ohio K- mart, it is now a U- Haul place.
Welcome to campers r us in Leechburg .P.A
@GelatinWasTaken strange thing is that they are located in the old k.mart parking lot 😅🤣😂 where Wally used to shop as a child
@GelatinWasTaken it's a crying 😭 shame that they along with Sears got done in like that
There was a Kmart in sellingsgrove pa that is now a Nissan car dealership
Do you have any Wegmans in the Pittsburgh area? I know they are not a department store but for groceries they are great! Can be a little pricy though.
No, we don't have any around here. There is one in Erie, PA I frequent when we go up there. Love that location.
An Aldi will be opening in the remaining part of the Kmart this fall, 2024.
I miss Kmart they had great deals on clothes
The nine dislikes are the employees
Lol
Is there still Kmarts around or are they all done
2 or 3 left in the Country. 1 in Miami, and 1 in New York or New Jersey.
Sears in Newburg ny is going out of business this week
Is there even a Kmart left in the Us?
Yes 3 Miami, the one by nyc, and one in nj but they are sadly unfortunately going to close and 2 sears are closing soon the only Washington state believe it’s last one and the last one in ny is :(

That Kmart sign looks creepy looking
like others here, I sure do miss K mart ... wouldn't be great if one of these days Wallie did a brand-new Kmart opening? Wishful thing I bet
Just open a department store, that includes layaway
Keep it up , like your channel & Jeremy retail explorers. - the most

Try weirdo goose to Pizza Hut
houston has former kmarts
So is there really nothing stopping someone from taking a truck there a getting themselves a free travel trailer?
I would say it's sad to see K-Mart closed but I never really liked them.
Like I've said, unless Giant Eagle goes bankrupt (which will never happen) Meijer will not be coming to Pittsburgh.
My name is Ian.
Why is there a lot campers at this Kmart
Good question it's because so people have room and put there campers somewhere that's why
Everyone has their own opinion i respect that but i like super walmart they have some very good store brand products great value brand! Target is okay too high walmart is cheaper and better
