- On This Episode of What's Smashin I talk about how home Xbox works and how you can use it to game share with another console. I 've been on Xbox for around 15 years and I used to have the family plan which was amazing! Now I'm stuck to only being able for one of my kids to play my games and not forced to purchase two of everything or another Xbox Live just for my kid. I try to break it down in the simplist form while giving ideal situations in which I would use this method to share with others besides just my child.

Thanks for this. This makes sense! I did it backwards for my son’s Xbox. Also you could also set up a pin so you can hide credit card info

So the person with the games makes the Xbox they use their home Xbox with your account on it?
Sorry to keep bothering you, but I got one more question. Thank you for your help and for answering me earlier it is much appreciated. So I originally had my Xbox account set up as the home Xbox just like you are saying, because my daughter had an Xbox before I got one for myself and I have been paying for her Game pass Ultimate. And it was working great.....untill I realized it wouldn't let me play on cloud gaming. She was messing around with settings to see why I couldn't and then we realized that the cloud gaming wasn't part of sharing. 😢 But whatever we did made it where I couldn't play Xbox live and it said I needed to buy a pass. So I watched your video to figure out how to get it back the way we had it. (Thanks by the way) So I logged into my account on mine and made it the home one, then logged into hers but on my account and did the same and made sure on her account that hers was not the home. But it still won't let me play online. What am I doing wrong?
Her account needs to be logged in on hers & your account needs to be there as well ..... the XBOX who is trying to get xbox live from the other xbox has to be the HOME XBOX. So your home xbox shouldn't have XBOX LIVE.... it should be the XBOX that isn't the HOME XBOX that should buy XBOX LIVE

From what I hear, your son logs in using your account? Or does he have his own account? It works if there’s one account logging into two Xbox’s, but it’s not working for my son. My account is primary and his is secondary. He’s logging into the old series S console with his account, and he’s not able to play games … they’re not being shared. But, he can play games on the new X|S and I can access all games on both consoles. The one issue is his log in on the non-home Xbox can’t play all the games. But, thank you, good video.

I have 2 consoles. On my home Xbox, it doesn't allow my kids to play any games unless I'm signed in. It says something like "the owner of this software must sign in."
However, on our 2nd console, they can play anything without me signing in.
Any ideas on why that happens?
because you need to make the 2nd console the home xbox ... thats the home xbox already
The one youre mentioning thats your home xbox at the start of your message isn't actually your home xbox & unless your profile Is signed in no other profile that signs in can play (because your home xbox is the 2nd console)
I just got an Xbox series S and I got it for traveling, but my wife and daughter use gold to stream at the house which one do I need to set as the Xbox so I can still have all my games so I can play and still purchase and download new games on my traveling Xbox somebody please help me
So what you would want is for YOU (Xbox Profile/Gamertag) to be the paying account for Xbox Live or Game pass. Make that Home Xbox that your wife and daughter play on YOUR home Xbox! The other Xbox will let you play your profile and all that on the road since it would be tied to YOUR account! which you pay for those services. As long as you have wifi and logged in.
yo so my cousin shared his gamepass ultimate with me n now i can play his gamepass games, but can i download and play any of his purchased games that are not included with gamepass and can he play any of my games i purchased outside of gamepass as well, my account is set to 'home xbox' on his xbox and his account his set to "home xbox" on my xbox, should be able share any gamepass or non gamepass games as long as we are sharing via "home xbox" rite?
Yeah actually... That home Xbox can download any purchases games from who owns the HOME Xbox! If you ever have an issue which happens sometimes... Just sign in to their account download the game and switch to your profile and BANG and yes if he puts you as his home Xbox he could play your previously purchased games. Even if you don't have ultimate or game pass.
At the end you indicated if you have a 2nd kid that there isn’t a way to share the Xbox ultimate game pass across all 3 of you. Is that correct? I have 2 kids, we just got a 2nd Xbox. The games and game pass is under my account and I’m set up as home Xbox on the original Xbox but I don’t really play. It was intended for both the kids to play and I’m having trouble figuring out how they can both play all the games on each Xbox and at the same time.
The easiest way would to be unfortunately, is have your kids share home Xbox amongst each other so, they have their own games in which they can both play. You'll have to keep your account as yours basically and have ANOTHER Paid account for the two to share. Sucks I know! Xbox used to have a family plan
So me and my brother have an Xbox and my brothers was the home Xbox I switched it from his to mine and now it won’t let him in his games but mine work

So I have an ultimate account and so does my son we recently bougt a game on his account if we game share can we both play that game at the same time online with each other from two different consoles
yes, you both have live, but if he owns the game he has to claim your Xbox as his home Xbox. Then his games will be available to you

So you can't game share with 2 other Xbox's if you make one that doesn't have ultimate the home? As in right now, it is only you and your son. Which means that in order to share over 2 Xbox's the ultimate user has to be the home?
So person who pays for the plan can play anywhere. People who uses "the home Xbox" of the person who pays for games can have 5 different accounts on that Xbox and they'll all reap the benefit of live and games and an individual profile. It's a one home Xbox system. Literally for the house (like living room or multiple people playing on one Xbox) only reason the main account can play elsewhere is because Xbox live n games are tied to their account. (They pay) A third console doesn't benefit anyone in this situation unfortunately
@smashin_productions but if they make your xbox(which is the one paying for the ultimate), can't they use the online feature just not play your games and multiple Xbox's benefit? I'm sorry if I'm sounding annoying, I'm just confused and trying to understand and I'm obviously not the brightest lol

I tried to play MW3 on series x while my kid plays Roblox on Xbox one but it won’t let me. It says someone has to quit game and we can’t play simultaneously. How can this be fixed ?

So I have tried this multiple times and now out of tries for the year but it wouldn't work either way you try to do it, that is making the one without ultimate and even the one that does have it.
Did your game pass come with Xbox live? You can have a game pass and not have an Xbox live? Just asking
@smashin_productions Yeah. My daughter has game pass ultimate, which I pay for every month. Which I was the home xbox for a while and got the benefits like you said. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I downloaded a game available on game pass and I remembered that my daughter told me that ultimate let you play games on game cloud, but it wouldn't let me. So she was messing with some settings and ended up unchecking me as the home xbox trying to figure out why I couldn't. Well we figured out only the one paying for ultimate can use cloud. lol I didn't know that she changed something, which I guess was just me being the home xbox untill I went to play MW2 and it wouldn't let me anymore. Since then I have tried and tried to get it back and can't.

absolutely, as long as he has an active Xbox live membership
will this work in different countries like say im in canida and he is in the USA?
honestly I have no idea! It never even crossed my mind. I know you can be in different time zones and it work, but I am not sure if that means globally
So if someone removes thier profile from my xbox which is set as the home xbox will their owned games instantly be removed from library?
Not sure the HOME XBOX leaves when the profile is removed, but if it does than yeah not only do you lose the games they owned, but their online benefit as well

Hey bro. Can you help me understand. I'm the who has the ultimate gamepass and two of my brothers they don't have. Both of my brothers they have their own xbox. My own xbox I will not make my home xbox because It's my access. But my 2 brothers can they make my account as their home xbox to their own consoles? Does it count as 2 switches? Appreciate if you answer 🙌🏽
Unfortunately it only works for 2 Xbox's not 3. So if ya bro's was sharing an Xbox it would work. You have to pick one of make them get their own and let them share with each other.

@@BOBBY-xd5wd no so you only have access because you have live and pay for the services. The other person is because they play on "your Xbox" the 3rd person could make a profile on the "home Xbox" but if they tried to play on their own it wouldn't work. That's why I said eventually I have to decide if my kids share and I have my own or I pay for one of my kids to have one

I want to game share with a friend but can't get it to work.
I'm logged in to his xbox with the benefits.
I set my account on his xbox to my home xbox.
Next, on my xbox
My friend with the benefits signed in on my xbox
And set his profile to my home xbox.
But still no game share /gold🥲 what am I doing wrong?
Do we need to have the same home xbox on the same console?
I followed instructions how another person explained to set it up so Any help would be appreciated...
So whoever pays for live/gold should be the home Xbox to the person who doesn't have live/gold so they can use online features and the person who pays for it gets to use it any where

absolutely it comes with live (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) You would have to set up her xbox as your home xbox so she would recieve all your benefits on that console. Even if on the same console as long it's the home XBOX of whatever account has Ultimate. She can have her own account sign in and play along with you. Even play without you

My brother has xbox or game pass ultimate for PC he says, well he let me use the " lock it down" feature on my xbox and set his as my home xbox on my console.. . That way i can have game pass ultimate for free, but does this mean that he has access to all of my games and stuff ?
Yes, all they have to do is switch to your profile. He has access to your games and live as long as his Xbox is YOUR home Xbox. If he doesn't know the lock code, he shouldn't be able to access your profile. I'm not sure if that would stop him having access or would need you to log in before he could download them under his gamertag

What I don't understand is that will I have my own game progress saved under my account? If I would play a game purchased under my sons account, with home xbox game share, I would be playing using his credentials or my own? I wouldn't want to mess his game progress. Also for example I would want to play with my friends not his.
Yeah it would as long as when you start the game click your profile if prompted

The profile are all their own. The progress saved belongs to the profile. So as long as you have your own profile that you use to log into games and play you have no problem. The profile, friends list, messages will all be your own. All your son has to do is make your Xbox his home Xbox and you get his benefits. That would go for any other profile made on that "HOME" Xbox as well

yeah, so it might be because it might not be set up right. The only time I have this issue I just logged into the MAIN ACCOUNT and redownloaded the game. Logged out and let the 2nd person log in and it should work.
I’ve mad it work and everything but the one thing is that me and my brother can’t play at the same time. Idk if it’s meant to be like that or I did something wrong?

It’s a shame the account your sharing from has to be logged in at all times like I’m sharing from my friend I have to log there account in and switch back to mine to play
I don't have that issue with my kids account I share with. I keep my profile on their xbox, but they never have to log in as me to play games.

Yup and play his games and he still gets his own stuff well cause he owns it 😂 all accounts on that "home Xbox" would have live only on that XBOX, but the main user will have live any where causes it's tied to his gamer tag

I have been doing this for years and years and never had an issue, I always set my friends account as home on my console to share gold and games. But now I’m having problems i don’t know why, I just got my hands on the series x, I set his account as home but now it doesn’t wanna share gold it only wants to share games? I’m gonna hope the services are being funky right now and will randomly start working in next few days cause I think I’ve tried everything I could think of. What do you think? (Yes he has ultimate)
the basis game pass option doesn't come with live, unfortunately, tier 2 and higher give you the Xbox live included
@@smashin_productions didn’t have the basis, I had the higher version which had both Xbox gold live, and games. But the problem resolved itself 3 days after, the services must of been acting funny or something idk, haven’t had a problem since.

from what I know only changing your home Xbox would removed the privileges. I've changed my password and my kid never asked me to sign in for them

idk what that code thing is. I would only share home Xbox with people I trust. I close friend or relative. I wouldn't risk it with someone I don't know
