  • This video will help you decide if the IK Multimedia iRig 2 is still worth a buy at it's low price in 2020.
    Since its release, phones have lost the headphone jack.
    Does that make a difference when using this iRig 2? Watch and we'll discuss how it works, whats apps to use with it and whether it can be used on newer devices with dongles or missing headphone jacks.

      I have a subscription to Ultimate Guitar which incidentally now has branched to singing as well. When it comes to using an android device With an Irig2 or irig2hd it has quite a bit of latency and that's even using a Samsung with professional sound. However,I have used it on an I phone and was impressed with the latency disappearing.ive never had any success with the amplitude series on any cellphone or computer but I use the Tone bridge app from ultimate guitar ,and that app is free for me and I absolutely love it being able to get the tones I want without having a bunchnofnmoneybtied into effects pedals and delays etc. So I run my guitar into tonebridge on my iPhone and then atraightway from the ŵ1

    well explained, no loss of time:) i just bought this hoping it would work using the regular camera app on iphone xr, and it does. now my signal comes from a looper (headphones out), not a guitar or bass, and i'm trying to figure whats the best gain setting. seems to me the best is all the way up, while making sure the sent signal is not too strong and does not saturate...would you confirm this?

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад +2

    Hi, enjoyed the Video. Quick question... can you use the 1/4” out to Amp to feed a small powered speaker and will it match what you are hearing in the headphones.
    Specially if using Garage Band to practice against recorded backing tracks.
    For some reason the original headphone Jack on the original IRig will only power Headphones?
    Thanks
    John

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад

      That’s right. It will send the audio to anything amp or powered speaker. If you set the switch to fx, it will send what you hear headphones after being processed on the device, “thru” will send the signal before any app processing

    I was looking to get one of these for my iPad Pro and band practice. I’ve been using BIAS AMP 2 and FX 2 for my practices and it works great. Only issue is that I have to lug around my only interface which is a Roland Rubix22. The product is great but the only issue is bringing it around with me back and forth between home and band.
    My question is, would the iRig do a decent job for live processing? Since I’m using an amp sim for my tone I need next to no latency. I don’t care for quality so much (besides, I’m running my other interface in to my iPad at 44.1k)
    Hope that wasn’t too long of a comment 😆
    Thanks!

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад +1

      No worries my man, I would say if you're going for lowest latency on an iPad, you may want to try finding the iRig HD 2 as its a USB connection instead of using the headphone jack. But really, test it out first with the irig 2 if you have it, if not go for the HD 2. I did a video demoing that as well here ruclips.net/video/js-hYkJwTq8/видео.html.
      That said, the irig 2 in this vid doesnt give any real latency either, on Android devices is a totally different story.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    iRig UA is meant to be used with Android or windows, hence the A at the end. Now they bundled up Android/Mac on iRig Pro and discontinued UA. I'm an Android user, I have a 1st edition and the UA and still have an old iPhone to use with the iRig as it sounds better with lot less interference.

    I there. I have an iRig2 (and it still works with the AmpliTube app). I’d like to be able to use wireless headphones, but it seems that because of the latency it won’t work. Think it would work if I go wired through a mixer and connect to it via Bluetooth?

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching!! Irig2 will only work with AmpliTube in iOS devices, not android.
      Regarding the headphones, anytime you add a wireless device, you will be extending the latency. You could try it and see if it’s good, you might be ok, but it’s trial and error

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад +1

      You could do separate tracks, but not 2 at once since this is only a single input. Ideally though you would want a USB interface with 2 channel inputs with phantom power option in case you need that depending on the mic you use. for best cheap interfaces, look for BandLab Link Digital or a Behringer UMC22

      +lucifer it'll work with any DAW because it's just an analog interface. just load any audio track in your DAW and select the input you have the iRig 2 plugged into. but honestly, if you have a digital interface, there's tracking no need for the irig2 as any interface will take a line input from a guitar regardless

      +Miss Zoey thanks for the sub! for audio recording, it just depends on what you may be recording and what mic you have. it's good enough for any line signal like a guitar, bass, keyboard, etc. I good idea with this would be to connect the instrument to a preamp first, the the preamp to the iRig to maximise the signal quality.

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  2 года назад

      It’s possible, if the noise present with s noise gate pedal in high? If so it may just be too loud coming into the irig, bad cable or a loud pickup. I guess just check the things you can to troubleshoot, switch cables, guitars off possible, etc.

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад

      mine does not have any buzzing unless I have some pedals or amp turned on. What you could do is use Deplike app as an audio effect within GB and use the built in Noisegate pedal to take out the buzz. if that doesn't work it may be a bad headphone jack on the device itself.

    How can I use this with my Martin, which has a piezo pickup in it? I try it through IK AmpliTube and also Garageband and run the headphone out to my Bose Color SoundLink. It is a great little speaker, but I am looking for a clean sound and there is so much distortion and gain noise. Should I connect the FX 1/4 to my Bose instead of the headphone out from the irig 2?

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  3 года назад

      Try adjusting the EQ on the guitar to get rid of some noise, and then yes, try sending the sound from the 1/4" amp output to the Bose instead of the headphone jack. the headphone jack is low powered. You may still get noise, so try using an app like Deplike or Garageband and put a nisegate pedal in the chain to cut out the signal noise.

    So you are saying Amplitude cant come through android USB-C? is this because the device doesn't have the 1/8 head phone? and if it did (such as a galaxy s10) you would be ok? Are there competitive products for android that you have tried?

    • @DarkRoastRecording
      @DarkRoastRecording  4 года назад +1

      +Gary Kelly hey man! it's not the usb-c causing the problem, it's that IK Multimedia changed the app to only support the iRig UA device. The app tries to pair with the iRig but can't because it's not compatible anymore. TC Helicon GO Guitar Pro is a great alternative

    • @DarkRoastRecording

      What you are experiencing is known as digital latency. the time it takes for the raw audio signal from your guitar to be processed through the irig and software (Garageband) and back out to your ears from the AD/DA conversion. It is greater with Android devices mostly, except for Samsung and Pixel phones, iOS devices arer usually very minimal for latency. Make sure you are using wired headphones directly from the iRig and maybe try using the "Thru" switch on the iRig to see if that helps.

      The iRig 2 is a Mono audio device, meaning it cant do stereo sound like edrum kits send audio. You could use a single audio out cable from the LEFT channel and your kit may have a setting for that, or it may default to mono (left) if you only have that cable plugged into the audio output from the drum module. the audio signal will be quieter though since the iRig 2 is expecting a HI-Z guitar signal to the input and only getting a low impedance signal from the drum module.
