So cool that the trailers are shot for shot identical.
There are some differences in the shots themselves. Take a look at the water quality in both. In this meta quest launch trailer the water is much less graphically impressive.
@@XeroFoxx No shit it's going to be less graphically impressive. It's a port of a PCVR game to the Quest, running on a mobile APU. 🤦 Gray's point is the parity of the trailers' shots and editing for comparison purposes. The fact that this runs on Quest at all is impressive.
i love the honesty here. its the same well planned trailer, but its pure honest marketing to show how it will look on vr (obviously on mobile gpus its totally not the quality a 4090 cam deliver). cyan, your honesty rocks!

I originally played this with my Son when it first came out. We had a *_Great_* time! He died suddenly and unexpectedly last year. Seeing this makes me miss him awful bad. I am looking forward to re-experiencing it again ☹/🙂

Seriously. I am a huge fan of the series, but the quality level of certain shots in this trailer doesn't bode well...I hope the PC version has a higher graphical ceiling.

My first thought was how the heck y'all were gonna get this game to run on Quest and then the trailer started and I realized "oh, that's how" lol. Still, crazy impressive that a game on this scale will be on the Quest.
If they follow the release pattern for Myst, A PCVR version will release several months after the Portable launch. That one should have graphics more comparable to the PC version and will also have access to upscaling and all that.

Being 14 when MYST hit the world but not having a computer at home I played Riven for weeks(!) when it came out (being 17). Not having internet was so character defining in me just trying, thinking, taking notes and retrying every step without any help. My friends all played FPS, RTS or something mostly violent so I had to finish the game months later when my family got access to the internet and a few altavista searches put me onto the fan sites and forums 😅😊❤
I became an engineer and IT solution architect. First one in my family with a degree (M Sc.) and I would add Riven to be part of that pretty unlikely "profession" story
Now in 2024-25, I will introduce my 11 and 13 year old, Fortnite/CS/Zelda/Minecraft/FNAF playing sons to my old loves. But using VR as the new technology that can make them realize games can be so much more than points, frags, skins, loot or in-game currency. I will not succeed the first time but persistency is my middle name (and for a few more years I have some influence on them) 😊

Im really hoping this is just the quest 2 visuals and that theres a quest 3 upgrade coming down the line.
Most of the trailer looks good but man some of the water shaders just look like jello. The rocks at 0:20 also look horrible. The downgraded lighting ruins the original look
Oh god its even worse than the trailer.
Audio static, fps drops, apparently nanite is used for almost every mesh resulting in horrible LOD, bad load times, and the resolution bounces between okay to worse than the Quest 1.

These are Quest 2 grapnics..... they haven't even made an upgrade for the Quest 3. The fact is, its unbelievably IMPRESSIVE that the visuals look this good on a Quest 2.....which costs 1/8 of the price of a strong rig plus a headset ontop.....its funny people compare it to pc.... even though there are negligible differences between the visuals.....the ones thay criticize it are people who are butt hurt that VR can now be enjoyed by everyone.. and u dont need to spend $$$$$ to be able to play VR....without the Quest headsets VR would be dead and thats the truth...
Cant wait to get a Quest 3 patch for this. Will look stunning ... if u wana see how amazing Quest 3 can look, just look up Red matter 2....PC visuals.. and if u disagree then u r lying to urself....go cry some more

Yeah. It just wouldn't work without a fixed camera perspective (even though most of the character interactions in Riven take place in confined spaces, such as cages for instance).
Even though the character models look better than they did in the Myst remake, they're still... eeeeeh.
Mayhaps the og live action actors can be added in like they did for the Myst remake.
Myst (2021 remake) had the original video recordings as an option. Chances are the Riven remake will be the same.
@@bunnymustard The original recordings were available for the static images, like the linking books and the dockside viewer. For the final scene when you're with Atrus you get the character model even if you have the video recording option toggled on, since it's a 3d environment.

Yes! I am a huge fan of the Myst series, and Myst in VR was AWESOME. So excited!

Is the release date for Meta Quest only? Or is steam included?
They released two trailers, one for the normal PC version (which should include VR functionality), and this one for the Quest 2 and 3, all with the same release date.
I'd been expecting somewhen closer to the Fourth Feast of the Maker (i.e., Christmas).

I had my hopes raised for what UE5 could look like on a mobile chipset after seeing the trailer for Lego Horizon on the Switch last week. This Quest port looks like a PS2 game, while the standard PC version looks like offline-rendered CG. Is there any footage of the PC VR version?

Wtf you on about. Fo look at both trailers... there is litteraly the smallest differences. The fact that it looks this impressive on a headset that costs the fraction of a price of a strong rig plus a headset. You have no clue what your on about. PLUS if you own a PC you can hook up your quest 3 wirelessly to plat this on pcvr. Quest 3 is an all round awesome headset.. you can play this standalone and pcvr. Go read before you make a fool of urself

Yow... Gehn and the "sunners"... looked like early 2000s 3D graphics. Very jarring. Silent Hill 3 had better character models. This is not good guys. I think you would have been better off just rerendering the first game as an HD remaster.

Thanks for the release on VR format, but why not remaster the textures using AI and improve the polygon counts. 4k is not enough for VR.
I thought I was in for replaying one of my favorite classics in HD but I was way wrong. This is like a whole new game while keeping everything that made the original great. You guys hit it out of the park! Congrats!
IQ is a bit glitchy in patches here, hoping that is just RUclips not the native experience. This will be amazing though.

let's say i have a Mac, and i buy a Meta Quest 3, can i run the game in VR from my Mac using the Quest or do i need to buy the Quest version of the game to be able to play in VR? does anyone know? i don't have experience using the Quest yet but i want to try it
If it's a powerful, high end Mac with an Intel processor, you can Bootcamp a Windows partition onto it and play PCVR games... extremely poorly. I'm pro-Apple, but to be real, even the upper tier Macs have dogshit hardware for gaming. Especially PCVR gaming.
So if I want the better graphics of the PC version, can I use a quest link cable and play the PC version that way 🤔

His original actor passed away. They are keeping his voice lines. The 3D animated characters are likely due to compatibility with VR, since flat fmv videos wouldn’t look good in presentation in VR.

@@slipspacerapture - In general, yes the PC version is always better, but sometimes it's just a port and there is no difference with the Quest version. Actually, I should have asked if the PC version will be an "Enhanced" version !? 😉

@@974TontonRoro Probably not. I've heard that the extra power in the Quest 3 is for visual clarity (There are more pixels in a screen than the Quest 2), not for rendering resolution. (You can't make the textures higher quality or the models more detailed.)
@@Kazuo1G Erm... you absolutely can have higher quality assets with the Quest 3's APU, and many games DO have them. Quest 3 graphical enhancements are a common practice, hence OP's question. Don't post about things you've "heard" without confirming the facts. Otherwise you're just spreading misinformation.
@Kazuo1G wtf are you talking about. The Quest 3 has 30% more pixels than a Quest 2. And 50% increase in the GPU. You have NO IDEA what your talking about. The Quest 3 lenses are higher than ever. The psvr2.... go read up before you make a fool of urself lol
