24 MONTH PHONE CONTRACTS ARE A MASSIVE SCAM....

- 24 month phone contracts are a massive scam. Stay clear. They should wear balaclavas signing you up. But fear not, there are options...don't get robbed this Christmas.
Prices as of 20/12/19 from www.carphonewarehouse.com.
Operators are Vodafone, Eir, Three & GoMo.
Phone is a Samsung Galaxy S10e.
€459 Samsung Galaxy S10e is from www.adverts.ie.
what I don't get is they can put your bill up mid contract! if its a contract it should stay the same price until it ends.
@@bet_big9917 In the uk the major operators o2,Vodafone and three put the price of the contract mid term up in line with the RPI (Retail Price Index) this yr o2 increased their mid term contract by 11.7% if the RPI is eg 3.7% they add a further 3.7%. Tesco Mobile and Sky don’t rise their contracts mid term.
@Sean can cancel it if you change you close ur old bank account and open a new one with another bank
Exactly
You agree to the increase when you sign up they mention it goes up every April
@@FMCREPAIRARMAGH22 I know but they shouldn't be aloud to. If the price goes up you should be aloud to leave with no contract breach.
I’m paying £8.50 a month for a Samsung a21s wich is pretty good imo
Always buy phone outright, then SIM only or prepay sim
Buy the phone on contract, pay a little upfront, get a reduce line rental. Good deals on available on upgrade.
It's not really about the phone for me. It's mostly how it can improve my credit score take in mine I'm 16 and I'm already thinking alot into my future I've saved 500 pounds up tk never miss a payment so it doesn't affect my score
Put a phone plan and a airtime plan together and you pay the same for 24 months, in some cases even cheaper
It all depends on what phone you buy & how much data you use, contracts can work out cheaper especially on iphoned if compared to buying a new phone sim free
just save some money and buy it with 600£ and you can pay monthly for a sim card with unlimited data and mins 25 £ instead of paying 1500£ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Simple answer, get prepaid, unlock asap, get 48, then its €8 per month for the credit.
Edit: oh ya by the way Harvey Norman sells all phones unlocked already
Three is rubbish
There's a reason why it's a CONTRACT: so you can't get out of it. Phone contracts are specifically designed to lock you in a payment plan that will feed off your paycheck, and it is intentionally 24 months (2 years) which is when new phones tend to come out or how long your phone lasts, so by the time you finish paying for it, you need a new phone.
That’s why you upgrade? Also don’t sign if you’re not happy with the contract
So tell me what happens when you buy a phone outright?
no actually not all companies contract are SCAM Apple offers contract with 0 % interest and no plan bullshit like if the phone cost 1000£ you pay monthly till you reach 1000$ total and that's it
Phone contracts arnt scams in my opinion people are just stupid , I've just gotten a 24month contract for an iPhone 14 with unlimited everything and I'm paying £37 a month so works out to £888 over the 2 year considering the phone is £849 new im paying £1.63 per month for the data for 2 year , so to me that's a better deal then straight up buying it
I'm looking at getting a Pixel 7 and it seems like a similar situation - the phone will absolutely last me two years and the price is the same, its either £600 total over two years for a contract (with £40 upfront), or £500 for a new phone + the SIM, which would easily cost into the hundreds for two years
I agree it's to expensive just get a SIM only deal instead
I used to work in Three and I'd tell people the exact same thing. People generally still went for the bill option. Absolute madness.
Biggest rip off ever 💪
Do a video content and warn people mate
If someone want to return the device which a person purchased from EE network is it possible???
Can I break my sim contract in 3 without paying early termination fee?? Help me with this I'm soo obsessed with 3 mobile
Because technically if you do the math the best phone is about £800+ then you join a SIM only network for about 20 a month that's literally 1.2 where as on contract you build credit you get a phone and you're basically paying the phone and the SIM at the same time, if you actually do the math it's so much more hassle to buy it out right especially if you want a flagship phone you're looking at about 1k just for the phone and the. You gotta join some shit mobile network to save money, the reason they charge more is because you'll have signal in most places I went for network and rarely had signal so had to go for the big ones because the small ones lack the signal and speeds others have
If 24 months is a scam what sport 36 months?
Half goes on airtime and the rest towards the phone it’s never free
I used to buy my phone separate and then a sin only contract but I wanted the S20 Ultra 5G and if I got that by itself and a separate sim it worked out more expensive so it's the first time in years I've bought a phone contract I pay £56 a month on EE which is unlimited data, its £1,344 at the end of 24months
I haven't got WiFi at home that's why I got the unlimited data, also bear in mind the phone was going for £1,200
The Goat how do you not have WiFi at home crazy geezza
Its still cheaper in the long run buying a phone outright providing you find one at a good price and not direct from main dealers. Contracts do not take into account depreciation of the phone.
Anyone tried Smarty in the UK?
Yep. SMARTY is pretty good.
Sim: only £10
5 GB data + unlimited calls + unlimited text: £6/month
And I have a 250Mbps Vodafone WiFi router (£29/month) to cover all other data costs.
yep EE have done me with a 4.5% increase, well above inflation, never will I go with them again, once my contract ends.
Same happen to me never again
EE literally took my money I had £5 credit and it literally when away in 2 days when I only called my doctor and I also used to get the £10 30 day data and text it never lasted for more than 2 weeks when I also only use it when I go out
Lol every company increases the price each April.
There are two charges one as per RPI second from the company.
And also every company mention it in terms and conditions which I am sure you did read completely and said I Agree.
Everywhere is around 3% + CPI
@@FateBoost this post is eight months old, so any comments can not apply, as things have changed
80 euro a month is just an outright scam
What do you think about ID Mobile mate?
24 month contract on a pixel 6, £31 a month unlimited everything or 28 a month for unlimited min and text and 20 gb data
Thanks Stevie! Brilliant.
Cheers Ruairí. Happy Crimbo dude
Why do I feel like this is an elaborate scheme to convince the wife that buying that phone is a really good idea.
😂😂😂How did you know
24 months is nothing when your in a 36 month contract 😅

@@patrickwannafightaboutit6338 More Like Poor 🤣 As The Longer The Contract The Cheaper The Monthly Payments
2 year contracts, that are really 3 years is common now it seems.
Looks like a good deal, but you have to swap your phone after 2 years, or pay a further year if you want to own it
Why in the name of jesus would you by a phone for €500. The boom is back baby
INTRESTING FROM SPALDING UK ile read my contract from EE I ALWAYS WATCH YOU TUBE DONT PLAY COMPUTER GAMES
MON 29 JULY 2024 I got mine from ee Samsung A55 5G IM ON UN LIMITED HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY I USE FOR WATCHING YOU TUBE I GOT MINE CONTRACT RATHER THEN BUYING
I got a bill for almost 50 in 3 days 24th contract. The phone supplied is broken. I rang customer service extremely abusive saying phone could not be broken. In addition termd extremely vague and can't even gate a date for billing. Im giving the phone back and I'm terminating the contract. Never again.
Update...this company refuses to take the money out of my account and charges double bill and extra they now have now have technical difficulties and I'm seriously considering cutting the direct debit
For example look at the Samsung Galaxy s24 ultra just been released people are flocking towards it and now the new normal is 36 month contracts 85 euros a month on EE or any other provider near the same didn't they forget we are in a cost of living crisis but it seems people head for these expensive handsets
Phone up front and a sim only deal is the way to go. People can't see past the expense of the phone up front, but works out cheaper in the long run.
still wrong. iPhone 14 pro is £1,099 upfront plus for my sim card over 24 months I will pay £450 so that is £1,507 over 2 years for the phone. I can get the same deal with the same provider for £1,300 total. people just don't know how to shop around.
Really depends how much you end up paying for the sim only deal. Pay as you go is ridiculously expensive so you need to get a good monthly deal for the sim anyway
I got the s20 fe 5g for a friend, 100GB data, unlimited calls n texts for 19£ per month. And 200£ upfront. I think its a fairly good deal at least in my oppinion. Comes up around 656£ altogether on a 700£ phone. And im aware u can get it for like a lil lower in some places but the convenience of 2 years of basically unlimited everything seems worth it.
What network is this with

I ended up using the data part of contract company fine for coverage but not for that phone. At least it was very good range. Swapped the sim into second hand phone iPhone. I used it as a hot spot. Streamed it onto a cheap Samsung I couldnt connect a wireless headset to listen to you tube while training. while I have two devices now it works. The new one froze during calls. The phone is broken 166 euro to fix. It had 1% battery life not really worth the repair. Works out to 49 a month that way. The 66 was for insurance and theft.I wouldn't have given the phone away! 😄
Website?
I paid £320 upfront and paying £41 a month for 24 years! I think that's a super deal. I basically pay about £1,300 total cost

I’m happy that I end my contract sim (Vodafone) in the 4th month. They increased 4 pounds in the 3rd month. Such a scam
I have a Google pixel 7 on a 24 month contract at 26.00 a month unlimited every thing
Fantastic accent you have there sir. Key words dont tell EE your disabled and a meal ticket for the rest of your life. A lot of their staff are pressured into meeting targets and they dont listen to can you call at the end of the month. I only wanted to get unlimited data for my xbox one and now i have an s22 that will never see the light of day and now their ramming all sort of offers down my non eventful life. I didnt insure it so now im bombarded with buy your insurance with us. every f**king day. I will have to make my own youtube video on its flaws. HArd reset still works on any android, wait for it to die and hold volume up and power. or this device thinks its smart, its not if you see anyone trying to have fun with it just steal it out of their hand, 15 min screen lock then asks you to swipe diagonally to continue and then factory wipe it.
Funny how I asked RUclips for a penny mobile review and got everything but that , honestly RUclips is just crap these days as it just shows you what it wants to and not what you asked for 🤔
Good video
I was on a 2 year contract with o2 for £26 a month using a Huawei pocket WiFi and it's a bloody rip off as its not even unlimited data I've finished my contract so I'm cancelling it
Do you have a specific reason for needing portable WiFi in the UK?That's the same cost as my airtime plan, I have unlimited everything and 5g/4g works virtually everywhere if you are in the UK just as quick as home WiFi, and obviously you get the bonus of having unlimited calls and texts too
Sorry old post now
I guess it's not applicable in all cases. Right now, Vodafone UK is giving iPhone 12 for 50£ per month contract with unlimited data, calls & SMS. I think it's a pretty good deal overall.
Hello so basically my mom got me a a new sim with this plan so if I loose my current phone do I get an iPhone 12?
My friend i am agent in their call center named as "BUY MOBILES" directly affiliated to Carphone warehouse , Well i know its not the right place for the offer just trying to maximize my sales , But we are offering iphone 12 pro max with unlimited data , Sms , Calls and 500 international minutes with the same number and network yOu guys are using right now in just 45£ a month for 24 months contract

I have taken this phone contract mistakly please give me information how can i cancle it
Dont even need to save , can buy a phone using PayPal credit and then pay as little or as much as you want. Its even interest free for like the first 6 months, could technically pay the balance in 6 months and pay no interest. Furthermore many places will trade your phone as a trade in , which will bring prices down further
Tbh I got a phone on a 24month contract cheaper than buying the phone outright
It’s same ways BMD did to me with o2 . Anybody there , let’s come together .
Doesn't it state the amount your paying for the phone when you sign up? Like say your getting a galaxy s22 for £25 a month. That's £600 for the phone which is about the normal price. Then they add the plan which might be an extra £20 which should get you enough gig and unlimited everything else. Is the issue that the plan part cost to much?
No in Ireland you get fleased just as described in the video!!
Hi Stevie, Fair point, well made... Great vid thanks for sharing. Hey I am wondering how things work in the UK, When you call someone internationally are you as the caller the only one that pays / gets charged or both do? For Receiving a international call?
Free to receive international calls in uk.
Some cheap SIM only providers which are good for international calls.
I'm paying 14 quid a month for a 24 month contract
Unlimited doesn't actually mean unlimited mate. There 40gb restriction in small print.
For real?? With Gomo? Couldn't find it.. And lots reporting going way over it and never being charged. Interesting....
It's 80gb but it's meant to go slower after u use your 80
Yeah, you're right Kyle.
24 months contract are not scam if you know how to negotiate to bring the price down, currently I’m paying £40 for iPhone 14 pro max. Unlimited data unlimited minutes everything. That’s £960 after 24 month. I’m saving £240 plus getting a free sim
No you aren't paying 40 for the 14 Pro Max, you can't negotiate on those plans. You either paid some upfront..
I've never understood the contract allure...
Nothing is free lol. There's always a catch
Great stuff, this country needs more people like you
I see your logic.. but it is all relative. If you are looking at the IPhone 14 pro on O2 for example. It’s a brand new phone. So total cost on the cheapest deal with unlimited everthying for 24months is £49 upfront for the phone and total cost after with the contract is £1417.. so 2 years £1466 for everything 2 years. If you buy the phone from apple its £1209 for the phone alone. So then you need airtime.. the difference of this cost is £257 which in 24 months is £10.70… you can’t get a sim free with the benefits for that price.
Run a speed test on it and compare it with Vodafone
Best RUclips channel in the parish.

Stevie Cahill Videos I’m asking Santy for more subs for you. If that doesn’t work I’m texting Mark Zuckerberg and the Illuminati as soon as Esat Digifone give me my next 100 text allowance bundle.
😂Esat Dodgyfone. Blast from the past. Had a Ericsson phone from them with an aerial bigger than a fishing rod.
I bought a Google Pixel 8 Pro 256GB on a 24 month contract with unlimited calls, texts and data on ID Mobile for £34 a month with £59 upfront. In total that would be £875 but to buy the phone on its own new at RRP is £1,059 with no minutes, texts or data so you would also need a SIM on top of that. Sure, it's possible to pay £80 a month for a shit phone and very little data but only if you're stupid. In the same way, I don't know many people who would pick the most expensive car insurance quote of a price comparison site but it's possible if you're dumb enough.
That's a good deal by the end of the 2 years its £900
i got a banging phone contract deal, £33/month and only £20 upfront for an iphone xs which works out £810 total, theyre around £600 in john lewis so £200 for 24 months with 30 gb data is pretty good
That's certainly NOT a good deal. They're ripping you off with you paying 33 quid a month for just measly 30 GB of data. Give your head a little shake whilst your there.
@@gunnyo50 it comes with a phone, a somewhat recent and good phone aswell and 30gb if data is plenty for anyone. good to hear you got a great deal JamZ

It's true contracts are a rip off. in the UK anyway their are networks like VOXI and Giffgaff that offer better deals for less. Its cheaper to buy the phone outright but you can always use finance if you cannot afford it. You only pay the price off the phone.
Thanks for speak out dude
Absolutely scam
I learned the hard way luckily I canceled the contact 2 weeks within starting it and luckily I didn’t get charged fully but still got charged for the crappy phone in which I then changed after three months of using as it was a terrible Vodafone branded phone and the charging port broke in the third month of using it.
I stupidly never went to the store to see if it had insurance but I wasted around £200 on it. This was back in 2019 but thankfully I now have a iPhone 11.
Pure rip off

How come it's almost £875 he said because you paying for line rental 🤔
SOME CHEEK ITS SOME CHEEK THE CHEEK OF THEM ....
Went sim only was paying £75 a month on contract now only paying £25 month sim only never looked back !
It’s now €14.99/mo
I mean if you buy from raylo an iPhone 12 is £20pm for a 24 month contract sim free and unlocked. If you to pay £20pm after 24 months you are spending £480 for 2 years which would be a deal in a sense. As the phone cost currently between £800:£600 depending market. So you are getting a great price if you buy from raylo
Bro I can't order an another device on raylo. Any other websites?
@@afrosamurai6705 I can't think of any execept trying to bid on ebay
Raylo, leases the phone & as a normal contract you keep the phone as you pay for it in installments and raylo at the end of the contract you then need to pay a one off fee to keep the phone, cancel contract or upgrade you never own it
Yeah I sacked my contract completely when it ended. SIM only PAYG with Giff Gaff. That'll do me.
I calculated interest on contract phones... I found one for 80% fkn interest
Lowest i saw is like 40%
My mother wants to buy me a contract phone instead of a gpu... I already have like 4 phones and no graphics cards
I found a gpu... That has a option to pay monthly at only 21% interest

I have a sim only deal for me and my wifes phone. Its with EE and we get a cracking deal.
So I get
Calls & Texts unlimited + 50GB of data which is doubled to 100GB of data for £13.50 a month because im a BT customer too
With pays £8 a month for the above with 10GB of data doubled to 20GB
£21.50 a month for both....
Bought a 2nd hand Samsung Note 10 Plus 5G wgen it first came out. Still going strong.
Play it smart.....
In Australia, you have the phone monthly cost say $30 a month. Which is $720 over years. Its always pretty much the retail price of the phone. Then you add the plan on top. Like $40 for 40 gig and unlimited everything else. Is this how it works in Ireland? or whatever part of Britain you are based in.
Yea pretty much the same. You have one bill split into two, an airtime bill which is your minutes text and data plan, and a device plan which is the cost of the phone.

Great advice! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
And many happy returns. 🙌
It really depends tbh. For example I know a company that essentially offer me a 24 month contract for a phone and I’ll end up paying up the same amount of the phone as I would brand new + with data.
Example:
O2 contract with this company: unlimited data, text and calls, upfront £49.99, 40 a month essentially £42 a month. £42.00x24= £1008
iPhone 13 pro cost= £949
Essentially I’m spending an extra £59 extra in the course of 2 years and that’s with the data included. I furnace guarantee you can’t find a sim that even offers £59 for half a year let alone 2 years.
Moral is do the math, see how much extra you’re paying/saving, if you’re paying an extra idk £500 over a course of 2 years and there’s a sim company offering the same sim deal for £15 a month then it makes sense not to get the contract.
Also many sim companies offer a discount after your contract ends if you’re not happy with the single etc. i got 50% off.
Thanks for your advice, may I ask if it’s not worthy to get a contract in march as April the price will goes up? Thanks
@@juliazhang4944 it depends on your provider, some providers do say they have a cap so if they have a cap then I guess it’s worth it. Like I said my first contract was so good that even with the price increase my contract was overall lower than the actual cost of the phone
@@muhammadah6850 thanks very much, but I noticed the CPI price increase each April plus an additional for example 3.9% for Three mobile , so what I understand is the price will goes up regardless. I’m not sure if I am correct?
No, the upfront cost is part of the loan. The upfront cost actually makes the phone cheaper. At €80/mo, thats roughly about €1000 for the phone and €30/mo for the 30GB data.
I’m paying £28 a month unlimited everything and I got an iPhone 13 3 year contract. 22/8/22
Update I get bi monthly bills- 140 month stay the hell away. I also got 3 in 1 bill this month bank explained they were taking extra money I'm so angry. The phone they gave me did not work 1% battery life. I'm considering cancelling my direct debit
I just want to clarify something as I have worked for a network myself: CPI (Consumer price index of 3.9% of your agreed tariff price) is by the network, the advisors have no control over it. RPI (Retail Price Index) is by THE GOVERNMENT. They decide how much the tariff price goes up by, not the network. They are just doing their jobs. If they don’t tell you, THEN you have a reason to complain. At the end of it, it’s INFLATION. IT. IS. INNEVITABLE!
My daughter signed a 24 month contract with Vodafone broadband (just for broadband only for her house) 5 months later unfortunately financially she is going to have to move back in with us. But she is going to have to pay £400 to end her contact, Just for broadband.
