4x4 / AWD test on rollers:
Porsche Macan 2.0T AWD (2017)
vs
Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI Quattro (2018)
#duszaniespokojna #porschemaacan #audiq5
The bad thing is when tires must spin so much to get power to others they will usually dig in to soft ground causing you to get further stuck.
I don't like when there are 2 drivers and the way they drive is differently ..as we noticed the Porsche's driver is more gentle like it's supposed to be so we can see when the system engage.
We do not a possibility to test always with the same driver. But owners of the cars usually know their cars better than any other driver.
The road surface is different too. One is on pavement while the other is on tiles that offer grip in the grout grooves. The Audi driver hit the gas immediately to break out as you see the rollers fly out from under the car
@@nonename7869oad surface plays a role only when grip is lost. In this case it made a difference only in the last test of Macan so we can hear front tyre squeak. But here's another Q5: ruclips.net/video/IaysomUDgXQ/видео.html
@@nonename7869surface plays no roll in this test 😅
Both cars have open front and rear diffs, so they rely on brake based fake lsd to shift power side to side. The Audi does a much better job clamping down early and harder.
Yes, but it may also turn out to be more aggressive and less predictable while sending power to that wheel that has more traction.
In real-world conditions the Porsche's awd overheats and gives up quickly. Check the SUV battle (Diyas Valikhan) channel tests. The off-road mode didn't help either.
In this test off road mode doesn't have any effect...
Well done. This is a nice comparison between 2 of the most luxurious obtainable CUVs.
The test for me is not fair because the ground being tested by Audi is different from the ground being tested by Porsche
The ground tested by Audi has better traction
It doesn't matter cause there are no serious grip issues. Besides paving is more slippery than tarmac.
We want Alfa stelvio next
Here's Stelvio: ruclips.net/video/fuURUK1WDjo/видео.html
both are using same engine and transmission right? (like both are dual-clutch for an example)
Yes, both 2.0 turbocharged petrol, both dual-clutch.
Quattro rocks 🤘
It is new quattro system. Ultra. Seems really good
@@tisironewbrook7275 "Quattro" is just a marketing name for many types of awd systems, Macan doesn't have any of them. It is using the same same type as xDrive.
both cars performed well. nice test
Audi get out faster
That was painful to watch. Mainly because that rattling sound made me think the Porsche had a driveshaft or some drivetrain problem.
But then I realized it was the spinning bar from the wheel slip thingy on the ground. Lol
Correct 🙂
Now I know why my Porsche cayenne is totalled last winter..
Not sure if this matters, but the Macan is still built on the older Q5 platform. So the two cars are technologically different. Macan is not using "quattro ultra" either. It should be torsen, even on the 2l engine.
Macan doesn't use torsen but multiplate clutch-pack to power front wheels.
Interesting to see that big SUVs like these struggle to get enough traction on 1 front wheel to drag the other 3 wheels out of the rollers.
It's the weight probably, or stiff suspension to try and hide said weight.
"Big SUVs"?
In the USA these are on the small side.
VW tiguan & atlas does much better job than its luxury cousins🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@gardenst4398 Because super luxury crossovers like the Porsche Macan have their traction control and AWD tuned for performance not off-road. The tires spin to improve handling, cornering and drifting which ruins off-road traction.
@jp ch.....may be its not haldex awd like in tiguan & atlas
TLDR: They're both not terribly effective off road unless you can somehow fit switchable diff locks and more suitable tires.
I mean one of them is a porsche, its emphasis is more on the S of suv
This model of Q5 uses Quattro Ultra, what AWD system does the Macan get? Torsen?
Macan is powering front axle via multiplate clutch-pack, so it's the opposite of quattro ultra.
Macan all the way. They should put better wheels and Macan S at least
What the heck was all that about?
This guy will help: ruclips.net/video/mryGnENTsoI/видео.html
First comment
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers
No to nie wiedziałem, dzięki za wiedzę i pozdrawiam.

Who makes those rollers?
Custom made.

@@arguzzarguzz5565 Macan doesn't have torsen. It uses multiplate clutch-pack to power front wheels. Q5 uses multiplate clutch-pack to power rear wheels.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers да, ты прав.
Does the Macan come with the optional rear PTV diff? And would such diff help out in these roller tests to certain degree?
Nope, open diffs. Unfortunately I don't know the details about PTV diff.
I'm not sure if from software side it's programmed that way, but PTV locks the diff's outside wheel. So if PTV would lock the diff on both sides- yes, that would help when one of the rear wheels lost traction provided, that enough torques is being send to the rear axle.
@@klstrucker930419 I see there's open diff inside and two clutch-packs, it probably can't lock at both sides at the same time, mechanically not possible.
@@klstrucker930419 PTV only locks (or actually adds more torsion - its not a mechanical lock) rear diff helping to sustain grip (drive) on each off-weighted rear wheel when taking turns. Basically there is one diff on every axle (and one central to send power to front wheels in Macan) I use Macan S with PTV on light off road (gravel, snow roads) and it works great. Although it needs more speed than typical off road car (I had Jeep Grand Cherokee before) more like rally car on the gravel.
@@michasukiewicz1172 To be precise - there is no center differential but a clutch-pack which is powering front axle.
Strange! Both are same audi shit.
But still different!
