People should be told in a review for the Berkey Sport, that before using it for the first time, the bottle should be filled twice and emptied. So, don't just throw the new sport bottle in you pack and expect it to be ready for use.. And, learn the proper way to clean and store it. All of this is vital info.
I read to never touch the tip of the straw (Berkey, Sawyer or Lifestraw) with your fingers because you can get sick from bacteria still that way so just be cognizant of that fact. Thanks for comments about hurricane contaminated water and Berkey being best for that because that is my situation. I also have a rain barrel that I plan to drink water from in an emergency which is a lot cleaner water. Great video! Thanks.
Tonya Whitford Condon I love mine I use it every day on my 10km hike its perfect since I carry in a holster on my belt people can't even tell I have anything with me and my hands are free to walk my dog and grab my mace if need be since its bear country and they are on the trails every other day
Great review. Ive used these three filters and I as well agree that the Sawyer Squeeze is the best. The Life Straw filters down to .2 microns and has a plastic taste to the water but good for the glove box. The sawyer mini is actually good for one million gallons and filters down to .1 microns. I review this gear on my channel too and liked that you do also. keep em coming. ChurchMouse
lifestraw was my first, works great. Just ordered the Sawyer mini. I got it for family use. The water in my area of North Carolina does not run fast so I will have to pre filter the big chunks first. What is the shelf life of the filters?
I'm not sure about the katadyn but Walmart now has the mini for $20. Great deal, I might be giving them away as gifts this Christmas. Thank you for the sub and the comments. Take care.
@ Mr. Kinney, yes using the filter in this fashion you would gather the contaminated water in the role up bladder or a water bottle. You could keep the untreated water in one vessel and push the clean filtered water into your secondary for transportation. For the test I was using tap water but in the field I would need to make sure that once the bottle or bladder is compromised, I can't drink from it. Thanks for the post.
good video. just a heads up You can get the Berkey Sport Bottles on E Bay for $15.29 ea. and free shipping. also I just picked up (3) Life straws for my family for Christmas at our local Fred Meyers for $17.99 and our local Wal Mart Super Center has the Sawyer mini filters for $19.99
With the Lifestraw I see no reason why people can't scoop up water in a Nalgene Widemouth or whatever and stick the Lifestraw straight in it and drink! Good comparison and thanks.
how often do you have back wash it to get a clean filter again? Seems like it uses alot of water to use it? What if your water source is very limited and you have back wash with clean water each time you use it?
The Berkey filters heavy metals and viruses to some degree. Sawyer and lifestraw don't. Berkey is superior in an urban disaster such as after a hurricane where water is highly contaminated with chemical pollutants. Sawyer and Lifestraw are for high country before factory sewage etc. This is why Berkey is so expensive. Filtration and Purification are not the same thing. Sawyer is filtration, Berkey is towards filtration and purification to a certain degree, nothing is 100%. You get what you pay for.
I have 4 lifestraws, 1 steel life straw and the family life straw which I use for cooking or if I need large quantities of water. Over the years I have used many other brands but this one I trust the most and while the water I have used is not like it is in Africa, I have used it in Mexico and Latin America with the best results, the swiss do make the best products and if the UN can use it worldwide it has to be good but do your own tests.

great video mate
I was thinking of getting life straw but not anymore. Does this sawyer mini beat kyadtan filters (can't spell) ?
The Berkey sport is good for 160 raw water filters and 640 tap water filters.

Didn't you put the would be contaminated end of the filter into the squeeze pack and liter bottle
Does boiling water do the same thing as all these filters?
If you want a real filteration system distillers are your only option.
And yet none of these filter fluoride, arsenic, pesticides or heavy metals good job scammers!
