I've had the newer version TG02 (same case design and brackets, different front cover) for a couple of weeks and the only complaint is the thermals (reaching 90+ degrees while gaming for CPU and GPU). I ended up installing an upgraded CPU cooler, added three 92mm 1600rpm redux fans (1 exhaust, 2 intake). The two intake fans were installed using the black bracket on the side (had to recreate the black bracket on CAD software and then used the negative space to fill the peaks and valleys on both sides of the bracket to create an isolator gasket for the fan to only suck air from the vent holes/mitigate vibration and had to dremel a small portion of the SSD caddy to fit the fans. @@HardwareSense Oh, thanks! I was really disappointed to find out after I saw a video comparing the FPS in games with one memory dimm and then in dual channel and the difference was huge, up to 10-15 frames in some games. It must have been a Ryzen then. I can't remember. Thanks for the response!

@@wesleychef You are not going to brick anything, just see with CPUZ what are the default timings of your memory and match them with Ryzen Master. And if it doesn't boot, zero the Bios and do one level up on the CLs, for example if your memory is CL 16/18/18/39, you could do 18/19/19/41

I just bought one of these a couple days ago and noticed it runs a little hotter than I would like. One thing I noticed is I've never seen the power supply fan run. Is this typical with this pc? This is the only computer I've owned that I've seen this with. I tried getting an answer from the HP support people and they claimed it was out of warranty, and wanted me to send a copy of my receipt. I did then the tech guy disconnected.
@@thepopatlaal i ended up installing a fan on the intake to blow air in, and an expansion slot fan on the back to blow air in, I also set up a fan controller to run the power supply fan all the time blowing air out. That keeps the case cold. I also upgraded the cpu cooler. I can remember which one but it does help. As far as I can tell the power supply fan is only supposed to come on when it gets too hot, but with such a weird power supply, I'd try to keep it as cool as possible.
Thank you very much for your video. I've replaced stock cooler with be quiet! Shadow Rock LP. The backplate was a little bit different but i just put some isolation tape under it and the whole PC works fine. It's much more quiet and cooler now. I've also added an additional fan to the case and had some BIOS error during first run after installation, but it reinstalled itself and works well since then :D
@@HardwareSense Do I have to replace the backplate when I want to install the Big Shuriken 3? Is it not possible to install it on the existing backplate?
Thanks for the fast response and the awesome video! Do you think there is a way to replace the current fan with a new one without removing the backplate? I just saw another video where someone was replacing the fan with a "Noctua NF-A9" which is probably a little too weak for my Ryzen 3700X. But as you can see on the video at minute 7:40 he is not replacing the backplate but is using some "Intel set spacers" to make it fit. ruclips.net/video/KIm0SHtfErw/видео.html Do you think something like that would also work with the "Big Shuriken 3"? I have never disassembled a computer into its individual parts and would prefer not to remove the whole motherboard even though it looked very easy watching you doing it! :) Best regards!
@@ThePuzzler23 It's not hard, just follow my video, it will be better to remove the stock backplate and install the one that comes with the aftermarket one.
Can we do anything with the spare PCIE x4 port located right above the gpu/next to the M.2 slot? Looking to maybe add a second M.2 slot with an adapter, but I don’t know if it will work or if it will choke the WiFi in the other slot *EDIT* It works! this is another possible upgrade as long as the GPU isn't too tall. I tested this port with an M.2 256GB SSD, and a 4x USB 3.0 port unit and both worked fine. attaching an m.2 NVMe to a smaller port limits it's speeds, but it still is much faster than an older SATA SSD and works great as a backup drive if you choose to upgrade the computer's stock storage
Just got a Noctua NF-A8 and a NF-A9 installed. 8mm for intake and 9mm changed with the original exhaust fan (Not sure if it is better). Both with splitter, and it worked with me. So I installed this, did step by step exactly what you did. Minus the extra intake fan.. and when I power it on it beeps 3 times and there’s nothing that shows on the screen. The fans and everything work but nothing load up on the screen.. so I took everything back apart and now it won’t even power on!!
@@HardwareSense thank you for getting back to me I found out what was the problem. So after taking the pc apart and putting it back together 4 times I realized. So when I put the thermal paste (Arctic MX-4) the first time It didn’t sit well on the Ryzen 5. So what ended up happening is it beeped 3 times and never powered onto the screen. So I take everything back apart in reverse, come to find out the CPU got stuck to the big shiruken so it lifted the CPU off of its set module. All I did was unlock and re-lock the CPU and boom turned on like a champ. It was the thermal paste that was so stuck to the cpu that when lifting it up it moved the whole cpu and module which abstructed the signals. I know it’s a long paragraph but hopefully if anyone had the same problem they can use these steps! Thank you so much these videos are so helpful.

It reads the original stick at 3200 MHz. What do I need that will work in this system? What can I do to get the Corsair to read as the advertised 3200 MHz speed?
Bro I couldn’t find one but there was a sale on their website it was a slightly different version the only thing that was different was the cpu and the ram. It had a Ryzen 5 4600g and a 2x4 8gb 3200mhz Ram and it was only going for 600$ the original price was 700$ but it was 100$ off so I ordered that and next day my Walmart had the 3500 one but a lot of people told me the one I bought it a bit better since my cpu is a bit faster

Hello, appreciate all the knowledge you gave. I have the TG01-1022, would you still recommend the shuriken and the other fan? Also curious is I should upgrade my 5TG external hard drive to an SDD (I only install games on the HDD)
The Big Shuriken 3 is one of the best for this computer, I love it. As for game installation, I would never use HDD, it is just too slow, even the cheapest SSD would be so much faster. HDD is only for data storage at this point.

Is it possible that the Y splitter didn't work because the sys fan is 5V and the noctura 80mm fan you used is 12v? Im curious how HP setup the sys fan header (3-pin), I think I read its standard that most are 12V.
Would be able to explain what you meant about grounding. At 15:47 you said attach the psu' back and them into the wall. I'm a nooby so I am confused at times with terminology And thank you very much for making these videos to help educate.

Heya. I just noticed the same thing on mine. Were you able to find any more info on this?
@@thepopatlaal i ended up installing a fan on the intake to blow air in, and an expansion slot fan on the back to blow air in, I also set up a fan controller to run the power supply fan all the time blowing air out. That keeps the case cold. I also upgraded the cpu cooler. I can remember which one but it does help. As far as I can tell the power supply fan is only supposed to come on when it gets too hot, but with such a weird power supply, I'd try to keep it as cool as possible.
The PSU fan never spins on mine either. The temperatures are fine though
