Never feel inadequate as I know I'm crap😅. But I like doing what I'm doing so I'm happy.
Ditto 😂😂. We might be crap but we're enjoying being crap so that's all that matters 🤣🤣
I really like the insights into mood and attitude that you have highlighted in some of your recent videos. I have only recently got over these anxieties and just enjoy the hike or walk, stopping to take photos on the way. I don’t care how good or bad my pics are or how good a photographer I might be. Getting out there taking photographs, editing them and printing out my favourites makes me happy and that’s all that matters. Great pics from you and Adam, must subscribe to his channel.
"Comparison is the thief of joy" Great video Henry. Cheers!
So true!
I am always more enthusiastic and inspired to take pictures in "bad" weather conditions. I am glad to see you and Adam had a good time with some great results. Lovely area, especially with the snow outlining the tree limbs and adding some motion to the landscape.
Some great images! Nice to see you hanging with Adam! He’s an awesome photographer and an even better human being! Thanks for taking me along!
Enjoy the company and make the videos together. 👍
It is so cool that you and First Man Photography got together. It is amazing how you can get different shots with the same composition. A slightly different perspective or idea of what a picture can look like make it so cool.
Thanks to the both of you for the inspiration.
FOMO is a waste of time. Here...now...beautiful places...photographic opportunities...you keep teaching us gratitude for such things, Henry. Thanks.
Good to see the two of you getting together and presenting this video.
Swings and roundabouts Henry, there are many times I see photographers that I follow and think you lucky, lucky people to be where you are witnessing such things and getting the images you do but there other times when I’m out and I think “I bet Henry wishes he was here now” 😂 I have images on my bucket list and get a little envious when I see others getting them but my time will come and it’s what spurs me on. Above all be happy in what you are doing and be inspired by others, not intimidated 😉👍
I have to say that your photography is full of emotions which I feel is normal. We all like to take good photo's but you may find it harder as it is your living so good pics are important, so failure is not an option. Like a couple of the other write ups I take photos for me and so have only myself so that is who I compare myself to in the hope that I get better. I have recently been to Norway to chase the northern lights and we found them. I am really pleased with the photos but I know other people have taken better one's but I'm happy with mine that's what is important. I look forward to your future videos as I've been following you for quite a long time and enjoy your work.
Sound advice and epic images as always. There have been some epic sunrises / sunsets here recently and not been able to get out due to work etc and for a while I was thinking that I had missed out. However, thinking about more about this, I realised that there have been epic conditions many times before I started spending more time on my photography and there will be many more times in the future, when I will be in a better position to get out there myself. I think that the moral is that don't get too hung up about missing the opportunity, because there will always be another time in the future. Plus, who knows the conditions may be even better! Keep up the good work!
Excellent video in trying conditions. Your images of the trees peering through the snow are superb. I used to worry if my photos were OK, whether people would like them. Nowadays if the photo looks good then I'm happy. Best wishes.
Think we all suffer from this from time to time. As long as you enjoy what you do then keep doing it 👍🏻
Your advice really speaks to me. Nowhere near your standard but definitely get intimidated by other photographers' work and always think that I'll never be that good, or beat myself up cos I don't get out often enough. I don't cope well with cold weather so it's worse in winter. Harder is the thought that the spectacular scenery isnt available near where Iive. Can you really get more than a record shot in mediocre scenery. Am I just not seeing the potential?
Oh man, this hits home for me in a very real way. It seems like every workday, the conditions are perfect (photographically) and every non-work day, the conditions are crap (photographically). It's a constant battle to be honest, to stay positive and motivated to keep going out with a camera.
Always do your own thing don't worry about the telly goons telling everybody how to do things and what to use! I bet some of them are watching and saying I made a mistake I should be there. Well done Henry that's a lovely place to be in to take pictures, thanks for showing it!
Thanks dude. Good to see you back home in your backyard.
Such a beautiful area! Thanks, Henry!
This photo absolutely captures the essence of winter and also atmospheric feeling.I think it’s beautiful 👍
A wonderful composition behind you! The wall and tree half way through - It's a complete 'Stonewaller' Henry!
So true Henry. It's so easy to get sucked into FOMO. going to social media and seeing 10 great photos a day - and forgetting that these 10 come from 300 ppl one follows and not from ONE other pal.
Beautiful set of images Henry, conditions great for photos but not so much for walking
Fantastic to re-live the day again and cracking video mate. Your photographs are also beautiful and really shows how two photographers can interpret the same scene really quite differently. Looking forward to our next one. 🔥
Thanks mate it was a pleasure 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video Henry ! I get a bit too enthralled at locations and sometimes my photographic discipline goes out the window ! It's hard to knuckle down and relax at times !
Hi Henry I agree with nitrox 7266 I have two old Nikon cameras d5200 and d3300 but have two great sigma lenses so when I do get a great shot I am over the moon but don't get down when I don't l just love being out with my dog and enjoying the experience one day hopefully I will get my dream camera thanks great video
Like I told Adam in his video, it is great to see my two favorite photographers going out together. I really like all of your pictures and thank Adam for letting you post some of his. Very lovely. Thank you for braving the wet and cold. Until next time, take care. 😊
Awesome, thank you!
Beautiful images this week and pleased to see you and Adam meeting up as you are great photographers and always thought it would be a productive collaboration if you ever met up and after seeing both your videos, I think that was proven. In terms of FOMO, as you said, we've probably been there with that but just needed to keep reminding myself, it's impossible to capture everything and be everywhere so make the most of where &
when you are out
Smashing video Henry, good to see you out with Adam and for you to have got some great weather for fantastic photographs . Thanks for sharing this and your houghts on FOMO 😁👍
The most important thing is to get outdoors and capture the scenery where you are!
Like my brother says: Do not sit inside when all hope is out!
Henry, Love your enthusiasm... question: how do you & Adam keep your lenses clean & camera dry in wet snow fall? overall protect your camera in rain & snow.. thank you
Spot on Henry. It is so easy to get in that comparison rut or regrets for not getting out when looking at social media. That is so easy to do.
Great to see you out with Adam, saw you on his channel earlier on. Looks like you had a good session in the snow.
Really liked the shot of the tree with stone wall leading up to it.
Got my head around "fomo" and just do my own thing and dont get beat up when seeing other photographers great portfolio images as i realise they are professionals and got years more experience over an amateur like me.
I see you still got that bit of rope hanging down by back door of van Henners, its driving my missus mad. Do you want me to send you some silicon 😂
Henry and Adam! An awesome combination of landscape photographers.
Wonderful, I love the snow, we don't get so much these days.
Good video Henry.
Thanks 👍
Such beautiful conditions, and loving the images you got. With this shutterspeed for the snow and then the dark coloured birches, the images kind of look like sketches, which makes them very special.
Some really good advice Henry.
It was nice to see you and Adam out again.
Perfect conditions for both of you.
Both of you captured some really nice image's as usual.
Look forward to seeing the next one.
Beautiful images Henry! Also good to see you and Adam out capturing lovely snowy landscapes together. You guys are an inspiration to me to get out with camera in hand and capture the moment! God bless you both 🙏🏼🙌🏼📷
Great video as alway Henry, saw Adams version last week, some wonderful images from the two of you. I agree to a degree with your missing out position, because I follow lots of photography pages, and photographers, and when I see a certain shot or place there is an element of missing out, but I learned quickly that we cannot be everywhere all of the time, so it's a shrug of the shoulders a deep sigh, and move on in the knowledge that my time will come, I never have a feeling of being inadequate, because every day is a learning day
Brilliant mate. I can totally relate to what your saying.
Gorgeous. And rather jealous given we get very little snow - Curious why you do not use a lens hood? Would surely help keep snow off the lens?
Andy C
Good to see you out with other photographers. People love my shots but I've never printed if they enjoy and you enjoy whats wrong with that?
Great to see you two out on a shoot. Lovely images from both . I certainly agree with today's topic, for me it's post processing, I don't have photoshop or light room, so I do struggle at times to edit as I saw the image on location, I get quite envious sometimes of those who have the ability to work in post that way .
Nice one Henry. Almost makes me homesick for the snowy hills of Durham Region in South Central Ontario. Almost. :) ... Cheers from the Yucatan.
Fantastic to see you out with Adam, what could be better than atmospheric conditions in the Lake District.
I feel a slight antipathy towards the images on Instagram etc, not intimidation. For me, yes I understand that a lot of work has gone into production, but the majority simply look synthetic, I would much rather see the photos by someone with a passion for pylons
Hi Henry, another grand day out and all the better for including Adam. Challenging conditions there with the camera pretty much dripping wet at times, so fair play some really good images there between the pair of you .. but makes you kinda glad to be inside watching this on the laptop with a brew! Thankyou and keep up the good work.
Nicely done, Henry.
Thanks Henry & Adam for an interesting video....I can relate to your comments & just have to be more realistic with my thinking & not let FOMO get me down.... love the pics in very trying conditions.... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Great video with you and Adam. I watched Adam’s version a few days ago and it looked like you both had great fun. You both had beautiful photos.
Great video Henry with Adam in beautiful snowy conditions the photos looked amazing 😊
Five minutes in and I had to put a coat on! Great video and some superb images. Cheers.
Another cracking video Henry 👍 I’m still on the D7100! Would love a new Z series but cash cash cash!! Maybe one day 🤷🏻♂️
Love my D7100 also!
Just beautiful ❤❤❤
Great video, my biggest hindrance is procrastination especially winter is find silly excuses not to go out. Then I regret later
It’s not your gear that matters it’s what you do with it!
Thanks for another great vlog Henry! The FOMO point is a major source of angst for many photographers and you made some excellent points there. Thanks for that good advice and sharing your own experiences.
Already seen Adam's video so this is great to see the other point of view :)
Great stuff Henry and Adam. 2 of my favourite youtube photographers.
Adam is right when he says "I think we won the day, mate." I think you did.
Very interesting journey ,Henry! I use photo lens hood for snowing landscape photography!
Beautiful but tough weather conditions. I would be afraid to get my gear so wet. Is normal weather sealing on camera's enough to keep it safe? Or is the Nikon you use better equipped for getting wet?
Thanks for your sharing your thoughts as always. I like Adam’s channel. I have been following him for years. So great to see you teaming up. Great photography as usual
Cheers Henry, it’s Sean in Atlanta! Brother, I am jealous that you guys have had so much beautiful snowfall this season! Yesterday here in Atlanta around 3 am, they said we would have a little snow for about 30 minutes! Not a bloody flake! Figures!
It is amazing to me that you are now hanging out with the photographers that I have followed for the last seven or eight years! I used to wonder if you all knew each other, and I am very happy that you are creating this kind of support group of all these excellent photographers that you can take trips with and share ideas with, etc.
You know how much I admire your skill as a photographer and this video does not disappoint! I only wish that I could experience one day that looks like that winter wonderland you guys are enjoying! Believe me, I’m just glad it’s not summer because summer in Atlanta is like dying and going to the wrong place! And I don’t want to practice for that!
Thanks from your mate in the land of no snow…
Sean
Another great video love the images you captured looks like you had a good time with Adam lovely conditions to be out with your camera thank you for all your hard work getting these videos out Burt
Hey Henry, love this video in beautiful conditions. If your up for it I could take you for a tour of the East of Scotland with all its old castles and coastal treasures it holds. I do RUclips with my photography and the East of Scotland holds some amazing gems. Keep up the good work buddy 📸👍🏴
Henry I love your videos and your enthusiasm and depth. You remind me of a modern day Bob Ross. I noticed you have the valleret gloves on here in the snow, the tinden model? I have been considering getting these as I love photographing in windy, snowy conditions, but the lack of waterproofing scares me. Do you find that to be an issue? What temperature would you say they keep you warm down to? Also, what is the trapper hat I see you wearing in your videos? I've been looking for one but can't seem to find a good one. Thanks for your time and keep up the passionate photography
All good stuff on FOMO. My way of dealing with it is swings and roundabouts. Sometimes you are the hammer, sometimes you are the nail. There will be days that people are jealous that I was out getting shots and not them.
One question though. Have you never considered using the lens hood as protection against rain and snow?
Thanks! I don’t use lens hoods as the rain is often driving into the lens, just me though! 👍🏼👍🏼
@@HenryTurnerphoto Fair enough. Saves a lot of hassle for anything approaching vertical though. 😉
Very good advice, Henry. I suffer from fomo and I'm guilty of feeling inadequate with my photos- for instance, when I see the images in your videos. Or Adam's. ;-) I just have to keep telling myself we don't have that landscape here, so I can't possibly get images like that. Darn it!!!
I like looking at others photography which I use as inspiration. Sometimes though, I do get a bit envious of what I see and have to remind myself not to get too caught up in what I perceive as "better" photography than mine and to do my own thing. I think it may have to do with the fact that you're almost always looking at someone's best work while you have to look at not only your own best but worst images as well. You have to remind yourself that they take lots for crappy photos as well.
I have a question as well. I see you and many others shooting in very wet conditions. Something that is rare for me. I don't mind if my camera gets a little wet but I don't know that I would be comfortable letting my setup getting as wet as you seem to at times. Sure, the cameras and lenses are weather sealed but do you do anything special to ensure your gear gets dried out beyond just wiping it down? Thanks.
Another great video, Henry! You mentioned about gear and maybe comparing your own gear with another's and feeling inadequate. Nonsense, I say to that! I discovered your channel while I was searching for landscape photographers who use gear similar to mine. I still shoot with a Nikon d5200 that I've owned since new in 2013, however I am saving to upgrade. (Z7ii). I look forward to next week's video!
-Rick
Some lovely images there Henry.
Watching right now mate 🎉
Your pictures I loved them well done mate
What a stunning set of photos Henry, amazing 👌🏻 great video again, gonna check out Adams now 👍🏻
I definitely suffer from FOMO with having a full time software developer job. There is a guy who goes out every morning before work, and by morning I mean 3 am for city shots. He does it in any weather and I just don't know I can do that every day and I always feel bad when I miss good light because I am stuck working at 8:30 am.
Physical book ! Yes !! .... When can I pre-order ?? Kind regards, Guy.
Very soon mate, thanks for the interest and I’ll be sure to met you know!! 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏻
Good video, Henry. I definitely suffer from this imposter syndrome. Thanks for the advice. On another note, have you got rid of the OM5? I know that it was damaged, but wondering if it was too expensive to get it fixed? I’ve just bought one to take on a trip to Japan, so was a little worried when I saw that yours was damaged.
Thanks! No, I should have it back soon!
Would you mind doing a run down vid of the equipment you use for recording video/audio?
Loving the photos Henry, great as always thank you. Quick question, when you have been shooting out in the bitter cold/snow, any tips on keeping the camera from fogging up when you get back in the warm? All the best Graham.
Thanks mate, no tips sorry I am useless with things like that 🤦🏼♂️
Check out COOWOO Lens warmers.
Oh mate, I am such a massive suffer of FOMO. All I want to do is be out with the camera!!!
Great video thank you question though what tripod are you using?
Thanks! It's an iFootage Gazelle
Henry... loved this video... can I ask about that green hat you are wearing... is that the mountain equipment one... I had a similar hat by sealskin but found it very tight... and ive a small head and it was the large I had... how do you find the mountain equipment hat? I guess I don't want it too loose either but this looks like its possibly the solution. Loved your shots too!
It is a Mountain Equipment Citadel :)
Great video with Adam are getting the OM 5 repaired 🤔
Thanks, still waiting!
@@HenryTurnerphoto mine took 3 weeks sent to Portugal 👍
You need to watch fellow photographer Kim Grant videos and find more yourself!!!
Yeh FOMO. It can be crushing at times 😂
Found your channel because of Adam 😎👍
Thanks for coming
So in the western U.S. we call the frost Pogonip. What was that name you called the frost? Can you spell it for me, please?
I was referring to hoar frost 👍🏼
Who said a RUclips landscape photographer's job was easy. 😄👍👍
Did you change camera bags?
I just have a couple of different ones 👍🏼
A bit different to Madeira - apart from the mist? Your channel is better than anything the BBC produce these days - You're a budding Photographic version of David Attenborough, Henry - addictive. Also you go where I've been before you, so there's an association and bond.
As a beginner with an old nikon 3300 I know I am inadequate
I still love my 3300 and I’m not sure I want to change it . I’ve had an 18-140mm lens permanently on it for over 3 years and although I felt inadequate early on, I’m getting better every day. Keep at it 😀
Told you mate, get yourself back to the Lake District and everything is better lol
Henry, what's happened to the Olympus? I've not seen it since, err....
Should have it back soon mate
Neither one of you used lens hoods?
Thanks
Thanks a million Paul
👍📷😎
