In a chaotic world of pain, grief and sorrow, your film gave me half an hour of peace, tranquillity and inspiration. Thank you, Nigel, for bringing this world of snow and beauty to me. I can't wait for next week's instalment.
Hi Nigel. I know this area really well, having spent many weeks up there walking, climbing or on my bike. That first spot you stopped at was proper plantation until just a few years ago with dense forest right up to the side of the road you were walking up. If it had still been like that, you probably wouldn't have stayed long enough to have discovered the wee lochan. The current landowner cut down all the non-native tree species and only left the indigenous ones behind (the few that you were looking at) and he is now letting that whole area return to it's natural state, which will take many years. It would be great to see Caledonian Pine back there in my lifetime. Hats off to him!
Nigel this current series in the Cairngorms has been one of your best ever, I know you Photograph all over the world but there is something about this latest series that's just superb, you ask for ideas for future Videos but seriously "It can't get much better than this" It's mind blowing content and quality that cannot be beaten, The best Photography Channel on RUclips by a country Mile by the best Photographer, Regards, Colin.
Haha ‘don’t let me take too many shots!’… when you’re taking shots like these… they are superb, each and every one of them. Nigel, please take as many as you wish! They’re bringing us such joy, capturing the magic of the moment. Thank you!
I’m on vacation from Michigan in the desert and my friends are laughing that I’m choosing to watch videos about snow. But this was such a fabulous video. And the shot at 16:36 was spectacular. I feel the peace and the joy of that scene.
Absolutely love snow!! and that print at 27:58 is a perfect winter scene!! love it 👌 we just havent had those conditions further South here in North Wales 🤨
Hey Nigel, I love Winterwonderland photo’s, so I love this series. Beautiful trees, Mountains, the wind blowing the snow from the trees was spectacular. Can’t wait to see you’re new video next week, have a good week.👋
You are a great inspiration to me and my friend who go out shooting together, we end up saying to each other now when were in that moment, the quiet moment, when we both say "it doesn't get any better than this". I do enjoy your teachings on composition but this series has been a great one for showing about getting out there and taking those shots, not being afraid to press the button. Love this series!
I know I usually don't comment on the videos, but I do watch all of them. I love these snow videos, love seeing the beautiful snowy landscape, the gorgeous trees and of course your fantastic images! Looking forward to next week's video!
I do appreciate everyone who puts in a lot of effort in making videos even though ofc it is to benefit from it :D I also like the fact that as you mention in your previous video that taking the camera of the tripod is giving you more freedom. I am a photographer and lately more of a landscape (and bird) photographer, and i just don't understand this obsession with using tripod ALL the time. I sometime use tripod but mainly for long exposure and night photography, I even shoot with the R5 and 28-70 handheld at 1/8sec which is usually my preferred long exposure for waterfall. I do admit that sometimes it is a must if you need to focus stack and maybe exposure bracket, but that with the latest cameras I find less and less important, the dynamic range is that good. What I noticed in this video is that I find the shutter speed and ISO setting very weird, ISO 64 to shoot still photography at 1/8sec and 1/4000 at ISO 640, I am sorry but those settings do not make any sense to me :D Maybe you want elaborate?
A fantastic video Nigel. Thanks for sharing. I was out shooting on the same day as you - I saw you packing up by the roadside. What epic conditions we were treated to. Hope to get a video uploaded soon too, but yours are at another level. Thanks for the inspiration. Si
Some lovely images Nigel, another winning video. We are expecting 37 degrees today and you’re trudging around in the snow. I know where I would rather be.
Great photos Nigel, no chaos, just great photos. Who says you have to have a plan? The sense of discovery is worth a lot, coupled with a stunning photo: it’s magic.
loved that opening comment.....'Just Shoot Nigel, Stop Talking'...incredible conditions Nigel and your timing for this trip was spot on when you see the beautiful images you shared
Loving your Cairngorms series some stunning images Nigel, some of your best images you take and videos you make I always feel are in the UK your passion really shows through more. Your work is amazing and buy far one of the best Landscape photographers on RUclips.
Loving this series. Absolutely stunning conditions. Nigel it's a Lochan or Loch not a lake lol. Absolutely stunning image's. Wish i was there. Look forward to the next one.
Again an amazing video Nigel. Lovely to see you explore that beautiful nature. I love to see a video in the snow. You inspire me to take pictures from nature and here in flat Netherlands it’s inspiring to see you scouting the mountains. But here is also fine nature. Thanks and keep on inspiring us.
Great series! Although I have not done a lot of winter photography I've always been drawn to images of snow, in paintings as well as photography. Some very beautiful images in these videos.
Thank you for the inspiration Nigel. By coincidence, we were at Loch an Eilein a few days after you, and I got almost the same composition that you printed off. This is not by chance I think. It's because I listened to all your excellent advice.
👍👍 The joy of early mornings, fresh snow crunching under foot, mist, beautiful landscape and your enthusiasm, put a smile on my face. Thank you for sharing.👴 What is the attachment on top of your camera? I keep on guessing but don't know. Cheers
Beautiful shots, great videos, fabulous series. Only one lake in Scotland though Nigel, all the rest are Lochs or lochans. 40 odd years living in this lovely place and i'm still learning 😄
Fantastic Video~ Beautiful photos ~ Loved the Grandfather tree. Nigel " I love photography ~ I really do" Yes, we can tell! Hope your back is feeling better.
Absolutely magnificent, Nigel! Not only are your photos and videos breathtaking, but your ongoing narrative gives us all a glimpse into how you seek out and find locations that offer such wonderful views of nature. Thank you!
Fun seeing/hearing your thought process in a vast, chaotic landscape. You did a great job simplifying and focusing on several sweet compositions. Love the drone perspectives too. Thanks Nigel.
I had exactly that problem yesterday. The mist and fog rolled in and I headed out to a location knew well. On arrival it was obvious that my location was almost out of the mist and fog. I gambled and went for it, with limited time I pushed on hoping to find the mist further into the wood. On the drive home I could see that I should have been on the other side of the wood for the 'best' conditions. However, when I reviewed the images i had 6 - 8 surprisingly good images that i wouldn't have had if I had bailed. Love this video. Can't wait for next week.
What an incredible location. And the soft light is beautiful. Beautiful shots Nigel. I envy the snow in the North. Its been far too mild in the south. No snow 😑
Great video Nigel! I love how when so many complain about the difficulty of taking photographs in the snow you embrace it and get so excited about it! And the excitement yields absolutely beautiful results! Well done mate!
Simply stunning. I love photographing in the snow but I live in Australia. We do have some beautiful snow areas but sometimes a very long drive. So enjoyed this video. One thing, Wellies are not the best snow boots - even I have good Arctic strength boots.
Personally I always enjoy your ‘in the field’ videos the most, because it inspires me to go out and shooting! BTW, I received your Seascapes book this week, beautifully made, also very inspiring since I live 5 minutes from the Dutch beaches. Thank you for being my landscape photography mentor for the last four years.
The reason the mountains in Torridon look bigger, although lower, is that you start at sea level, whereas in the Cairngorms you are already well over 1000 feet up. Also, the Cairngorm hills are much bulkier so the summit is often 5-10 miles away, whereas with the steep hills in Torridon you are only a mile or two away. If you want dramatic mountain views in the Cairngorms you need to work for them, and that means 10 mile or more round trips up the long glens that penetrate the interior. It's nice to see the Cairngorms getting some love this year though, Henry Turner was up there a little while ago too. I often feel they get neglected by photographers.
Good morning :) Love that video - Having the right mindset is as important if not more important that the actual photography skills. It helps so much to see your "thinking process" in these kinds of videos. You are human as well. You experiment. You rarely but sometimes struggle on the perfect composition. I'm really looking up to your photography so it helps so much to see you explore. For a studio idea I'd love to see "how to organize after a photoshoot" - like cleaning gear, backing up images, organizing the bad again. 🙂
Great little adventure you're on there. Enjoy the more casual approach to the images as well. I guess it makes your photography a bit more relatable. Your enthusiasm is an inspiration as always. Keep up the great work in 2024!
Great episodes for today Mr. Nigel, your works are very inspiring for amateur photographers like me. You gave us ideas on how to tale photos on different kinds of environment. Amazing how you were able to work it out in a snowy area. Great photos. Hope to see more of your work on your next video. Hope you can also features landscape photography from a desert place like Qatar.
Great video as always. As far as studio vs field videos I prefer field videos. I love looking for new ideas in composition and approach to my landscape photography.
What a day! I love your videos Nigel thank you for sharing. I always learn something new about photography which is great, but more importantly your passion for your craft is infectious! You having fun is the best way to start my Sunday! 🎉
Fantastic video and photos as always Nigel, amazing conditions. I really enjoy the "series" videos that you make, as an expat (now living in Germany) I´m also enjoying your journeys around the UK - but always wish I had started photography when I lived there!
I've really enjoyed this series of videos Nigel, I knew you were coming up to the NE Scotland, where I live, and hoped when we had the recent snow storms you were getting the images you hoped for. Although I think on the day of filming this video you were in danger of suffering from sever sensory overload! Some spectacular photographs, thank you for sharing. 😄
Bit of info for when you’re next up there. The image you held up at the end, if you continue through the woodland towards Loch Eanaich, you will come across a Scots pine plantation. Ten years ago I was there and they were collecting seeds and planting new growth. These were sitting in amongst the already existing Scots Pine forest. Better if you have a bike though as it’s a bit of a walk from the car park you used. Fantastic area.
Not really sure about when and when not to crop the tops of trees from photos. I wouldn't mind seeing some pointers on what conditions it's generally ok to do so. And ducks on water never mess up a photo!
Loved this video. It was great to see you so bouncy and taking such stunning shots. I really liked the one you printed and would love to see in a future video how you process snow images. Thanks for a great start to a Sunday
Hi Nigel, really beautiful pictures. Sadly the snow in my area disappeared a few weeks ago. I especially like the shot at 5:57. One question, why didn’t you take a vertical shot with the gras in the foreground and the tree in the front as main subject? I think that this really would have worked well.

Amen to that

The RUclips audience: "LOOK BEHIND YOU!!!!" 😂

You make it all look easy but you REALLY DO work hard to create your spectacular photos, thanks so much for sharing the journey AND you wisdom!

Such a beautiful place and beautiful photos! Thanks, Nigel!

I really liked the one you printed and would love to see in a future video how you process snow images.
Thanks for a great start to a Sunday
what a beautiful day. dream landscape photography. so enjoyable and wonderful. so grateful to you, Nigel! 📷🙏🏼
Nigel, amazing photos, best video yet! Glad you found your trees!
Thanks - I did actually but felt the landscape version worked better
Fantastic images! Your enthusiasm about life and photography shows through in your images. It’s a pleasure to watch your photography and videos! Cheers, Erik
Thank you so much 😀
About your question about studio video. How to adjst green in woodland photography? I am editing photos presently and one thing that I struggle a lot, it is to adjust the green in woodland photography. I always feel that the color green is not as awesome as it was in the field. The bench photo was my favourite - really told a story. For the studio, I'd love to know how you do your blown out suns - I can never make them look right ...
Another great video, Nigel! I love your enthusiasm! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and adventures with us.
Gorgeous images, Nigel! Kudos to you!
Loved the video - inspiring and beautiful. Glad to see you out and about.
