  • Here we have the other of the tyrannosaurid double release from PNSO. And this one is a true BEAUTY.
    We’re on the same track as the carcharodontosaurids, and it looks like a stream of tyrannosaurids. So the Daspletosaurus was a downer if the paint application portended of things to come, colour wise. Fortunately, Lythronax throws that out the window.
    The beautiful paint colours and application are masterfully done as per PNSO’s usual standard, and it is so pleasing to the eye I can hardly believe it’s on a tyrannosaurid. It’s as beautiful as the Zhuchengtyrannus, and both go very well together.
    This model captures the important features of this interesting tyrannosaurid, and it certainly is a good continuation of PNSO’s current run. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

    The pose is similar to that of their Nanotyrannus from 2021. Most the pity more derived members of the family aren’t yet represented. Alioramus, Proceratosaurus, and Jutyrant would make for a splendid opposition to later family members.

      You're right! It definitely have echoes of that Nanotyrannus! Wish I'd thought of it and mentioned that in the video! I would seriously love an Alioramus to flesh out the alioramins.
      What is Jutyrant? I've not heard of it.

    Im kinda confused , if so much of post skull is missing i dont see the point in stating its not on scale, we barely know its scale. Its not a modellplane, in live it could have easily still reached this size since again we barely know this animals size , taillenght etc.. Still amazing Figureand review
    The dunkleosteus really showed me just how little scale estimate matters in fragmentary fossiles. It can vary so much and fossils already make up less than 0.0001 percent of all animals thst lived ( of the fossil)

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Год назад +2

      For the Dunkleosteus I'm personally still not fully convinced.
      But when it comes to animals with a well-established bauplan, then it's a different kettle of fish. There are various methods that can be, and are used by paleontologists to make these estimations. Ratios and regression equations by their nature will have still large margins of error.
      However when you have significant fragments of skull like with Lythronax, it is possible to give a fairly reasonable projection of the morphology of the entire skull. Theropods tend to be more 'boring' which is an advantage because it makes referencing across similar animals that are close more plausible. We have enough of other tyrannosaurids to suggest we won't expect too many surprises if we were to scale in the rest of the animal; they are just not as morphologically diverse as other clades.
      My only concern would be *if the animal you are trying to apply scaling to is a subadult*. Then you have ontogenic variability to contend with and then the exercise results in a less enthusiastic estimate that is often as good as the next.
      Ultimately, scales can only be a rough ballpark, but scaling is still a useful exercise if you can extrapolate enough for a placeholder range. As far as possible, I only give credence to estimates from reliable workers who are respected in their field, and only if I can find the references.

    The scale got me a bit demotivated to get him,but since the post craneal remains are really fragmentary I’ll just stick to imagining him as maybe being a bigger specimen which who knows, it might’ve existed

    • @theimmortaleye7511
      @theimmortaleye7511 Год назад +7

      The scale is beyond pointless , if u want it to be 1:35 then it easily is
      1. Its fragmentary and could vary greatly in life.
      2. Fossils make up a miserable glimpse into life, unless articulated most size estimates are just that estimates, see dunkleosteus and spinosaurus recently.
      2. In live animals vary extremely between subspecies, region, individuals, enviromental circumstances (northern rats can be as tiny as mice or as big as cats. )
      So dont worry in my opinion , its not a modell airplane its an animal

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Год назад +3

      Scale is simply just a guide, and obviously the more fragmentary the more the leeway. However it's not a free buffet either. Tyrannosaurids who have a very similar bauplan across genera are more reasonably scaled with important bones in the skull, but that depends on the ontogenic stage of the animal. I would just go for a generally acceptable range based on estimates from knowledgeable and reputable workers if scale was really important. Otherwise, just enjoy him as it.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Год назад

      I think enough is found to give a reasonable scaling. Also I personally think it's a slippery slope once we decide that variation in fragmentary animals means a much bigger leeway above or below respectable estimates. But of course, every collector should use the scaling method they are most comfortable with. I'm not too fussed any more about exact uniform scales, so it bothers me less than it might have five years ago! 😁

    In my opinion, this is the best PNSO tyrannosaurid color pattern. And now there are only a few Tyrannosaurines left. Let's see when the PNSO starts making them. This Lythronax is just breathtaking. I love its pose, colors, and everything. Even though I don't have this in my hand, I've seen so many review videos and in-hand photos. And I can imagine how awesome this figure is. And, my dear sir, I've noticed that you have the best comparison photos out there on the internet. I see a lot of people using your photos to decide whether to buy figures or not. And most of them end up buying the figures. Because your videos help them decide what's best and worthy. And this little Lythronax is safe with its big brothers. Thank you so much for this amazing video, my dear sir. I loved it, as always. ❤

    Pienso igual, si hay que elegir entre los dos, es bastante mejor Lythronax. La pose es muy estética y elegante. Lo mismo se podría decir del pintado, los tonos verdes siendo conectados a los tonos amarillos por pequeños "fogonazos" de un marrón rojizo lo convierten en el diseño de color más diferenciado de toda la familia (sin contar con Zhuchengtyrannus, que usa la misma paleta de color pero con una distribución propia dándole más protagonismo al verde). Y usar moteado en vez de rayas para el patrón es otro punto interesante. No sé, lo veo un producto muy compensando, indistintamente de no ser escala 1:35. Y al ver tu review, queda claro que es un producto muy interesante, gracias por compararlo con todos sus primos y por hacer un contenido de gran calidad 🦖🙌🏼

    Étant donné que lythronax est assez facmantaire je pense qu'il est possible que lythronax mesurait 9 m longueur si il existe des individus plus que celui si donc il possible qu’il soit a échelle 1:35 dans ce cas car il y a toujours une différence de taille dans chaque espèce

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Год назад

      For sure. The only problem I have with that reasoning is that it really means anything goes where you can always scale up or down and put it down to individual variation. Of course with just one fossil it's very reasonable, but you have to decide what is the max scaling factor you are comfortable with. The bigger an animal is (if it's a fully grown adult) the less comfortable I am with larger multipliers.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  Год назад +1

      There are a number of ways. First is the formation from which a fossil is found, which encompasses information on both geography and time period. Second individual signs of immature vs mature features, for example whether sutures have fused completely or not. Third comparing anatomical features of known tyrannosaurid juveniles and checking if autapmorphies stated for Lythronax (or any other diagnosed dinosaurs) holds there as well. I touch a little on this in my PNSO Zhuchengtyrannus review.
      For your reference, the diganosis for Lythronax includes the following autapomorphies:
      "Sigmoidal lateral margin of maxilla; ratio of transverse width of anterior portion of nasal to tranverse width of middle portion greater than 2.5; prefrontal and postorbital contact surfaces on frontal nearly in contact, separated only by very narrow, deep dorsoventral groove; presence of distinct suboccular flange on jugal."
      _Unique combinations_ of characters also support newly named genera. To answer your question specifically: "...differs from Teratophoneus, Bistahieversor, Tyrannosaurus and Tarbosaurus in possessing a dorsally expanded ascending process of the astragalus (with the height of the ascending process greater than the width of the astragalus and calcaneum)"
      However this isn't set in stone. Watch the science part of my PNSO Mapusaurus for a brief overview.
