I've noticed among, not just Jamaicans, but Caribbean women in general (I'm Caribbean, and most of my friends, and acquaintances are from various Caribbean islands) is that the fear of upsetting their partners, a.k.a. the fear of their men leaving them, makes them ripe-for-the-picking, when it comes to men "coercing" them to be intimate without protection. That rings especially true for the single-mothers who feel obligated to pleasing their men because the men decided to date them, and help (financially) support a child that isn't theirs. I can't speak to their insecurity, and fear that they'll not find anybody else, but I can speak to a lack of education as far as health is concerned. Even married men cheat, and bring home STDs these days, so especially if you're NOT married, the motto should be, "No glove; No love."

You’re correct it’s is a Caribbean background issue. Over ago I was in a coffee shop in London, I overheard a convo about STD rate for 16-24 age group from some health officials. The men didn’t like using condoms despite the fact it was cheap and free and they were from a middle class area. The rate was affecting black British most who in this area were primarily Caribbeans.

This is an interesting look at the power differences between men and women in Jamaica.

I don't go without a condom, even with both of us going to the clinic and getting tested I still wear a condom, trust is not something I give freely.

    We all must protect ourselves.

Irresponsibility: I don’t know how long you have left JA but cultural and religious morals have been on a decline for a long time. The statistics for: ‘jackets’, STI/STDs, children by multiple partners gives a clear picture regarding their decisions as well. Sexual liberation particularly in Jamaica has been a failure with major consequences particularly for the poor and working class in the rural part of the island.

Matriarchal society failed miserably in the past for a reason, that history is hidden to the public now though.
Women tend to lie a lot more than men in those times😅.. Patriarchal society and matriarchal society should lead together, in my opinion. But that will take huge spiritual growth on both sides.

False. Do your research on matriarchal and matrilineal cultures that still exist. Fun fact, patriarchy is becoming more popular within those cultures because of the external influence of aggressive patriarchal males. So matriachy isn't failing; males are just extremely violent.
