  • Can you use hikes and trail runs as part of your half marathon/marathon/triathlon training? Yes! Instead of my planned half marathon training, I went for a trail "run" on Christmas Eve, which turned out to be more of a hike. But in this video, I explain the benefits of trails and hiking and how to use them to make you a better runner and get your training in.
Foods brands used for energy included: Made Good Granola, ‪@GenUCAN‬ , ‪@CLIFBarCompany‬ Bloks. All of these are easy on my stomach and good for people with GI issues (depending on your sensitivity)
Also, for those who are curious about the Bridge to Nowhere hike in San Gabriel Valley, this video will give you a glimpse of what it's like. I was hoping to run most of it because I had seen pictures of flat trails, but it is not very run-able because there are a lot of rocks, boulders, and river crossings. Take sandals with you, or wear hiking sandals, or wear socks/shoes that you can go through water multiple times comfortably in (you'll save a lot of time if you don't change shoes!) Next time my husband and I will walk it with hiking sandals so we can just charge through the river crossings. Also, look up the trail before you go because it's very confusing, even with some arrows to help. Screenshot them first, because you won't have cell service and it's fairly easy to get a bit lost and waste time. This hike will take you at least 4-5 hours if you're just walking and not stopping to change shoes at rivers.
