I love that you are still striving to find all the versions of the videos.
I feel like we need to (gently) ask Godley and Creme directly about the videos.
MTV only showed 11 versions of the Leave It video. I remember it very well. I had gotten the chicken pox and had to stay from home from school for two weeks. MTV showed one version of Leave It per day stopping at version 11. Even though having the chicken pox wasn't fun, watching the different versions of Leave It everyday while I was out of school definitively was. I wish I could see them all again plus the seven that MTV didn't play. I vaguely remember JJ Jackson saying that all 18 versions were shown in the UK while only 11 were shown in the US.
Thanks for this video! I distinctly remember a day back in the 80s when MTV played all the versions back to back and I thought it was more then 11 versions. I was surprised to find that there was so little information about the other versions, I assumed I would find all of them on RUclips!
As an 80’s music fan and a lost media fan, I love when my interests intersect.
Same!!!!!
Additionally since I am here I thought this would be an interesting subject that I often find myself asking about: were there _two_ Owner of a Lonely Heart videos? There's one that seems to be a more official one, but also another _far cheesier_ one with the whole band playing together in a weird kinda desert setting with some birds in the background though that one seems to show _some_ bits of the _other_ music video randomly, so that's weird and I wonder what that was about.
Glad I saw the original video on my old channel before I abandoned it!
I now wonder what the newly found "balloon party" version adds to what we know. Was it the last version? 15 or 18? Or maybe it could be anywhere in order but they recorded it last, or it wasn't even recorded last as people have been speculating. We see balloons in the making of video but we _never_ see that exact version as one of the "previews". And how/where did the person find that one? It wasn't labeled and numbered like the others, too so maybe not MTV.
This is such a great channel.
I hope someone tracks down the upside down lyrics version, I think it's one of the best gags Godley and Creme came up with for the video.
I would love to see a deep dive as to why there were 2 different (each equally amazing) videos to George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You!"
I have vague memories of (many if not all) of the Leave It videos all being shown on MTV on April 1st that year. But it might be a memory mixed with the making of video as well.
There's no comprehensive day-by-day MTV playlist online anywhere? That's surprising.
I can't help thinking that Lol Creme is a young Steve Coogan playing a character.
I remember seeing this on MTV, but that was 40 years ago and I was only 13 at the time, so I don’t remember all the intricate details of this show.
why simply not contact Godley & Creme directly, and interview hem for the channel? this would clear at least some things up
@@michaporwet418 I would love to see that.
I actually did this, I contacted Kevin Godley on his website via email, Have not gotten a response. I even posted MVT's dissertation.
Are the six versions on you tube
I found a playlist of them not too long ago. Little did I know that the other 3 versions were online because of Music Video Time directly!
Which is the one where they fade and the instruments appear in the song's bridge/breakdown? I saw it here. Don't remember the quality. 2019/20 ish
When you find them all... WATCH PARTY!!
Sure. That sounds like fun.
