    Is this the W901 pro version? There is a really big differens with the pro version. The pro version has double bluetooth connections so you can connect the audio from the unit to the car stereo with bluetooth that makes the sound way better than connecting with the FM-transmitter. But if you don't have bluetooth in the car the non-pro works fine with the FM-transmitter.

    I have the Porsche PCCM in my 928, and while the screen may be smaller, it does fit nicely in place of the old radio. The screen is actually the same size as the original iPhone, and I lived with that for a couple of years. I also get satellite radio with the PCCM (it was an add-on option). I've never had any luck with stuff that sticks on the windshield in any car; it always seems to come loose. (Most other people don't have a problem so it's obviously me.) I also just can't stand having the wires hanging down for power. However, this is a nice solution, espcially since if you wanted you could probably swap it into other cars, and having wireless CarPlay built in is a huge plus (the PCCM is wired).

      Agree Porsche OEM upgrade is very good even if it is pricy

    • @kbhasi
      @kbhasi 10 месяцев назад

      Yep, I was just about to comment about how the PCCM regular and Plus models appeared to me (through an image search) to have been designed to blend in with the interior.
      What you mentioned about the screen size is interesting as I grabbed my old iPhone 4S (which I keep to play older mobile games) to visualise the size of the CarPlay and Android Auto UIs. Even though the display may be too small for touch input, I have a feeling that the UI could be navigated using one of the knobs.

    Thank you for sharing this video; and greetings from the USA! I've seen carplay advertised a lot lately; I thick I'll give the Carpuride a go! I have a 2016 Dodge Dart SXT; it has Bluetooth and a CD player...but it doesn't have apple carplay. I've been back and forth on rather to get a whole new head unit for Apple carplay...that will cost me a boat load of money; plus I'm watching my spending. A Carpuride will save me lots of money.

    Great review and yes, instantly thought of applying to the motorcycle. BMW Motorrad refuses to consider using Apple or Android apps to build their own, which fails miserably. It’s what stops me from buying the newest K1600GTL. Actually considering a Goldwing with all the creature comforts but it pales in comparison.
    Thanks for the review. Need to do a little research on this!

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks! A couple of things. I have a BMW F900R bike and I downloaded the BMW ConnectedRide app. That has navigation but I hear you, it might not be as good as Apple Maps, Google Maps etc. On my BMW bike they also do a cradle for the iPhone which connects it to the bike. I haven’t tried that yet but I wonder if you could use Apple Maps with that?
      The other thing is that Carpuride do a motorcycle version of the one I reviewed. That might suit well and you could still use the 15% discount.

    I guess it’s whether you prefer OEM or not. The PCCM+ we had fitted to our 997 C4S is a world better than the original system with better amp, modern sat Nav or Apple Car play to use Waze or Google Maps or Apple maps aswell as DAB+ and much more. The point is it looks as if it part of the original fit and not an obvious add on. That’s a personal choice I guess.

  • @boffam00
    @boffam00 11 месяцев назад +3

    The PCCM (and double DIN PCCM+) are indeed pretty pricey and do not have great features or functionality. But they do look the part. IMO a better solution in your case is one of several retro-looking single DIN units (eg Continental) which have all possible connections and which do not require a hokey FM transmitter to play through the stereo. Then hang your phone discreetly somewhere where you can still see the navi.

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD  11 месяцев назад

      Single DIN doesn’t do it for me at all. Screens are tiny! Besides, this has significantly more functionality and it sounds great. The FM connection is just as good as a wired set up!

    • @JAYREAD
      @JAYREAD  11 месяцев назад

      @boffam00 Unless you have VERY good speakers and far better than the standard ones on an old car like this, you would never be able to perceive a difference. Not at all! Sorry!

  • @rosschurchouse2794
    @rosschurchouse2794 11 месяцев назад

    I think the real value in this unit is the portability, if you have a lot of old cars with FM radios/ blue tooth you can easily unplug this and swap it between cars quickly. The other thing is you can take it on trips overseas, instantly connects to all your rental cars etc, without having to link your phone to the rental - which in some cases can be a real mission.
    If you want a clean install, this probably isn't for you but horses for courses really. Imagine having this tech back when you were a poor teenager with your first
    I guess the other benefit is if you want your car to be 100% stock as a collectable and have a shitty radio in it pre blue tooth, this keeps the car stock.

    • @JAYREAD

      Quite easy. You tune your car radio to any random frequency that isn’t being used. Let’s say 107.7 for example. Then on my Carpuride to set that so that it broadcasts at 107.7 and it broadcasts anything you do on your Carpuride (music, GPS etc.) directly to your car radio and through your car speakers. Does that help?
