Brakes Fixed On The Corvair, But What Is This New Noise?

- So as we were working on the Corvair, we found ourselves performing a rather unorthodox modification to the vacuum booster.
No sooner did we get the brakes operational, and the next thing went wrong.

Thanks for watching, from all of us at Matt's off-road recovery! - Авто/Мото
This is a serious old school hot rodding build. If you can’t buy it you build it. I love every episode.
Agreed. I enjoy watching the build progress of the Corvair just as much, if not more than, recovery videos. I think Matt needs another vehicle project after the Corvair is completed.
Oh one hundred percent you guys are both right I wanna see future builds but the recovery’s are kinda the heart of the channel it’s Matt’s off-road recovery but it’s cool to see all the departments they workin
@@danieljohnson4418 2
Even if you can buy it, build it anyway! Lol
@@MrDrmorbid what’s your point? So was my Ace Hardware... should I have laid off all my employees?
"Everyone's backside is different"
Never have wiser words been uttered.
When he said he needed some learning aids, I was afraid he was planning on showing us the everyone's backside is different. That's a demonstration I really don't need.
I cant wait to see the "Vair" all done.. I have been a Corvair fan since my early teens. Im now almost 70 so its super special for me to see this beast in action..
Ha Ed has us both beat but myself at 75 this June I have you beat LMAO so here’s wishing you the best happy birthday ever a head of time is case I am not still around. I wish you the best early and I pray you live longer than I have.Cheers
Matt: “What’s that sound?”
Jayme: “Something’s burning!”
Matt: continues to bounce it off of the rev limiter. 🤣
Right!!!
Skinny pedal make VROOM VROOM!
I dont hear it anymore (pedal to the metal)

"Somethings burning"
"It might be in the------"
[Vroooooooooooommmmmm]
You need to borrow the Fab Rats' "Eye-crometer" for your modifications!
I really wanna see Papa Dar's Jeep and the Corvair hit a trail together for a shake down run. Whoever gets pulled out buys lunch?
People don’t realize or appreciate how long fab work takes. This is art.
We don't?
@@lightningstrikestwice6302 Bitch is your name people?
Interesting. So what do you call art that starts and moves under its own power? 🤣
@@longreach207 Mobile Art 😂
So, I think I got this build all figured out. 🤣
Trevor's the master electrician.
Rudy's the master welder/fabricator for this build.
Matt's the engineer.............but the blueprints are all contained inside his head!
Jefe's the part acquisition specialist.
Jamie is the woman behind the scenes that keeps the business side on track, & supervises the whole operation
Randy, & Ren swing the camera's.
Ed's the resident meteorologist. He has years of wisdom & advise to offer up.
Lizzy, she's the cheerleader for this build, helping morale stay high, & helping to keep spirits high when things get dull &/or boring in the shop.
Pappa Dar is the supervisor for Paul's channel, who stopped by to help supervise this build for a bit.
Did I miss anything?
No i think you got it down
@@tractorboy31 👍
You forgot the dogs
@@punisher8426 Darn it! I knew I was forgetting something.
Umm, you worded this wrong....you didn’t get the build figured out...that’s a basic run down of the whole channel, minus the dogs
If your videos were 2 hours long, they'd still be too short! Love watching what you blokes are creating.🇭🇲
Some one else from burpengary
@@karlpokorny7130 yes sir.👍
I loved Jaymie's giggling while y'all are taking the test drive!
Yaeh, my wife would have been screaming at me to slow down! Love that there are women out there who love the gas pedal, like Keisha during the drifting!
@Jillian's Adventures, that was the highlight for me too! In fact Jayme deserves a medal for putting up with Matt, their sons and Rudy and all those guys in the workshop! even if Matt never seems to get upset and angry!
The best
That was hilarious "we had a few issues between the bumpers"
What a beast - I’m so glad I got to see this thing in person 2 days ago!
Oh wow, was it finished?
@@anaikgill2937 No, I believe this video is pretty current; Matt was talking about the issues with the brake system.
That's AWESOME! I'd LOVE to swing by the shop for a visit..............but they're too far away form me to make that practical.😥
Lucky bugger! ;)
I stopped by a few weeks ago I was there the day after the corvair went up in smoke.
I want to thank Matt and his family/ crew for being good people. Been watching for a while and am impressed with their ability to not use foul language. It is a small thing, but I appreciate you for it.
I know this is not the "what should we call the Corvair section", but I have an idea. You keep calling it the wagon, so why not just go with The Winder Wagon?
The ( Banana Wagon ).
Things are serious when Matt's using calipers.
Too bad he doesn't know somebody with a lathe that could have been used to make that piece..
@@johngillette463 you mean like a mid century moster lathe that could turn a diamond? Yeah, thats unfortunate.
@@johngillette463 lol
I like that,! What’s that sound “, something is burning,” . said the voice of reason.” As Matt floors the gas pedal. That will make the noise go away. ..You’ll get the bugs out.
Personally I think this "corvair" build has been amazing. Can't wait to see it's first recovery.
The work on that master cylinder is called ‘adapting to circumstances’.
I can imagine you guys ordering new parts...
“What’s the year, make and model sir?”
Matt “yeah”....
🤣
I need a T shirt that says "Still too hot to cuddle"

I love the FULL FAMILY TEST DRIVE....No glass, no doors, no seats, smoking tires, full suspension test, and “no people were harmed in the making of this video”. Awesome.
When I was a kid the TV show MacGyver often entertained me, Now Matt is the 21st Century MacGyver!!!
Matt's 1st published romantic novel: "Too Hot to Cuddle"
That was impressive, been wrenching for 50 years and not impressed easy. I never would have thought of that. Going to be fun for the next guy to figure out what you did, lol, should work great.
I don’t know John, I really think these guys, Matt’s crew and Fab-rats as well are good old American hot riders. If they can’t find the right thing, they make it, and from what I’ve seen, it all works, better than off the shelf (in the long run)
going to the parts store for anything on this rig is going to be a nightmare
*_Gingerly places calculator back into thigh holster_*
Lol
Ginger, eh?
Did that to my scientific texas instruments calculator...😆
Where does one find a calculator holster?
I had a speak and spell that was made by Texas instruments I could never get it to do math.
That's why it's were my bestest friend!!!🤤

@k henne Dusty's incredibly ugly older brother.
I'm 68, I loved fraggle rock😁
I like Matt's reaction to things. "What's that sound?" Most of us would stop and investigate. Matt, on the other hand, proceeds to mash the gas and do a burn out.
He was trying to recreate the sound....yeah, that’s it....recreating it 👍
Run the bleeder hose into a transparent container: keep the fluid, keep the fluid off the floor, AND it's easier to see the air bubbles...
im sure they know how to do it, they just didnt bother...makes me feel even more uncomfortable
I also use a little one-way check valve on the hose, removes the need for someone cracking the fitting with the wrench every time you pump the brakes
Would you reuse the fluid? Especially knowing all the parts are brand new.
I think I would
That is the sound of progress!
It is so fun to watch you guys fabricate and figure out how to make parts fit and work that shouldn’t. Very cool. Thanks.
oh, and meant to add a hats off to Trevor, always in the background, always doing good work. always with a smile. Great guy.
THAT sounds vicious, at the moment it's like a high end toy, ready for us all to enjoy. Can't wait to see it when it's finished,
How do the brakes feel?
Bad.
Floors the gas pedal.
What's that noise? Mashes gas pedal again. I smell something burning? Mash! Mash!
She's starting to look finished, can't wait to see this thing off road! Great job!
It's fun when you get it right, not so much when you end up having to buy another part when you mess up the eyecrometer. It is what it is. Mod life heck yeah! Always love cameos from neighboring channels. Matt's Corvair v Dar's Jeep wheeling showdown let's gooooo
Give Matt a shirt, he "made a call" for more parts. What size do you wear?
Gotta love it when matt makes a call ☎️ 👍🏼😎
Thanks for posting! 👍👍👍👍🤓 love the progress reports. Can’t wait to see Dar’s Jeep and Matt’s Corvair out on the trails.
Hey Matt & Crew
That was a great how to on the power diaphragm.
We can do most anything with some ingenuity !
And you got the results you wanted !
GREAT !
Then the insane ride was so childish and such a blast !
I had butterflys and giddiness !
I am so looking forward to the first recovery with the " Yellow Pumpkin " as I like to call it.
What a BEAST !
To lament on Our friend Casey, Thanks for taking us along for the ride !

Mistakes are nothing more than a learning experience. I always wondered what was inside the vacuum housing on a brake booster now I know. Your whole clan are awesome and likable just like you are. So glad you found away to keep your channel going from its beginning other wise I wouldn’t have known what’s inside a brake booster. Thanks
At the beginning of the video, I thought Matt was about to do an ad for blue light blocking glasses.🤣🤓
I wanna see Matt install foot pump windshield washers into the Corvair.
Always enjoy the build videos. One thing fixed 2 things to repair 😆
Keep up the GOOD work guys..! We watch all your videos on the TV. I can appreciate all the work on this build as I have done this many times for myself & friends.
Absolutely love this build. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Thanks for sharing. I help a mechanic build a super shop truck from a old dump truck and a wrecked crew cab pickup. Both were gmc. Thanks for revising old memories.
I'm loving this new Sunday morning show. Nice work guys!
I don't normally get really into the videos RUclips suggest. But about a year ago they shut everything down in El Paso Texas, where I work. So i stayed home (somewhere in southern New Mexico) for a couple months. With nothing to do 'cept home improvement projects, work on our trucks, and watch youtube videos. Im so glad youtube suggested I watch videos from Matts Offroad Recovery. The highlight of my day now is seeing that a new video has been uploaded. So i was real happy to see this upload thia morning. Thanks for doin what y'all do
I may yell at you at times for slack safety practices, but I'm Quite Impressed With Your Mechanical Tech &

I cant wait to see the corvair completed. Such a beauty
So skilled and smart group of fabricators !
Hell yeah! It’s been a long time coming! Congrats Guys you are killing it! 👍
Love your videos on this Corvair, can't wait to see when it is done.
Another great video from you guys.
Stuff like this is how i got to know my local law enforcement from an early age. Whenever my mom got a knock on the door from a cop, it always had something to do with me and a motor.
My mom is awesome. Always plead the 5th but talked to me when I got home. No narcs in my house. :-)
Love the build.
Love watching Matt’s custom fabrication.
Oh and I love my new yellow rope.
And added 10hp to my excursion when I put my stickers, that came with the rope on the back window...
Getting so close! This is such an awesome build!👍
I love how Papa Dar pops in to see you guys, it's obviously a fun and happy workplace to hang out (and Matt gives him a ribbing to make him feel at home!)
Best channel on RUclips. Real life.
MATT,I am just itching to get it on the road, however everything must work well, Stay well, cheers🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Now this is a true one of a kind build. I love it
Can’t wait to see the next one . It’s looking great so far. Keep up the hard work and thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care
YEAH ! Getting that much closer to being put into operation !
I can relate to Trevor on a Spiritual level, putting that much work into something making it look beautiful, and then realizing it was supposed to be off center by a hair.... lol looks amazing anyway Trev 😉
I have no interest in a corvair much less heard of one but I am loving this build. I can’t wait to see it done and saving some people from bad spots!!
Nice work till now. You actually inspired me to build my own truck
Looking good!! You guys are so talented!!
Awesome seeing the Corvair coming along! Everyone is pitching in and get’er done! 💯❤️🐞
Great job Matt !!....excellent testing !!!! 👍
One of the best tools I had was a brake bleeding system that you connected to the bleed nipple and it sucked out all the air. Worked a treat, always ended up with a solid brake pedal and it was a one man operation to bleed the brakes.
I've built a few vehicles, and I have to say: good job to you. Over coming the issues of reengineering parts to work together can cause stress and compromise till things seem "half assed". Sometimes taking along time to get just right.
Another great video! More enjoyable than the big name tv shows, just too short... Thank you guys!
What great group of people! Nothing but genuine decent people . One day I will make the trek down from Canada to meet you fine folks :)
I hope you guys keep that Corvair forever! If someone else gets it they are gonna have a hell of a time finding replacement parts.
I can't believe he asked "Is this cool yet?" before touching!!
Matt is one of the few regular people who could be the perfect cat burglar cause even without gloves he would never leave fingerprints.....
But then again I don't know how hard it is to leave fingerprints on a cat?😽
I love how the driver's side twists up under torque. Very cool.
Never seen a m aster cylinder get modified. You guys and fab rats do some serious fab work.love these videos!!
Great fab skills! Thanks for sharing!
A shelter or roof over that outdoor bench would make it much more comfortable during the summer. It would make a great place to gather together as a group when the weather is good. A place to get out of the shop.
Pretty ingenious on the brake modifications. Well done!
Can't wait to see it in action. It sounds AWESOME!
"What's that sound" Power Steering Pump *actively seizing*
This is an awesome build guys. I have an 81 eagle kammback that you guys have motivated me to go through with a sbc swap. New engine gets mounted in the next week, I hope I can learn enough to setup a 4 link setup like this in the future!
Great video with my coffee. Can’t wait for the corvair and papa Dar’s jeep to hit some trails!!
So so CLOSE!!! Keep up the awesome work guys and gals!
cant wait to see the thing in action. it will be awesome
Like a kid in a new go kart. Well done Matt. Well done 👍
Hello from Ontario, Canada! Love your videos! Keep up the great work!
that brake booster looked great and the build in general guys. Its great stuff.
Just turn up the radio, it will go away.
when the noise stops after something falls off , you know what it was.
I had a Dodge dealer basically tell me that with my Grand Caravan. Turns out the noise that only I could hear was the PCV failing and spitting oil into my intake.
Yup, big stereo comes in handy.
And put a sticker over any warning lights
Need to install the radio... wire it, install speakers, then turn it up....so much to do to make a noise go away. Suggestion, get a top end stereo, lots of amps and speakers, I have a feeling that car is going to make a lot of noise. (noise, not noises)
Great job guys and gals Man there’s a ton of custom work on this Corvair
I really enjoy your videos - great people - remain humble and be safe
Great to see the progress and glad the gremlins are being sorted first such a cool ride
You will be muuuuuch happier with that Chevy HD master, I did this swap along with the hdd hydro on my 96 suburban. Massive upgrade
One of my favorite tools I've ever built was one of the simplest: a brake bleeding receiver. It's just a clear hose sized to fit my caliper nipples that's fitted inside a hole I drilled into the cap of a 2L Coke bottle. I put that guy on when I bleed my brakes because brake fluid is nasty stuff. I want it all to go to the recycler and none except for the odd drop to hit the concrete.
This is true hot rodding at its best I love this entire build can't wait to see this beast on the job spicing up the Winder recovery world old school Chevy American muscle 😎👍👊
I wanna drive it just once when ya get it finished!! Ohhh the power it has gives this girl goosebumps!!! ✌🐢
Your crew is amazing.
great power!!! congrats Matt and team!!!
4:52 Now that just an adorable presentation :D Show and tell with Trevor - please do make a series out of this!
It’s turning out beautiful, really great job and fab work on the brake booster
This time, Matt’s gonna make a call.
