Yes, back in 2006 I didn't know anything about effects and just played through them. But today I really appreciate the sounds from these little plastic machines.
Hey Alex, thank you. I think it's always a journey finding good sounds. It's time consuming and you need to invest. That's why all of us buy the expensive stuff every now and then. We want to explore if it it does the joy right for the money. But often there are long-forgotten sound toys that seem to contain the real magic as those have been used during the earlier days by many artists.
this video helped me understand that cheaper doesn't mean worse. by the way, my favorite pedal is zoom ms-50g at the moment. bought it one year ago after watching lot of your videos about this thing. feel very happy with this little stuff) thanks to you!
Thank you, Daniel. I've had Corona three times in a row and tryied only to do stuff that isn't too much attatched to a computer. It was very hard to ignore the channel for 3 months. But there's more to come. :)
Kenneth after watching your review of the zoom guitar 505 ii pedal with that dream pop-ish sound i bought it immediately. Like you said just for that effect alone its worth it!
I always enjoy watching your videos. your content helped me decide to build a shoegaze pedalboard. I have none of the 10 pedals included in the video, but I guess the Digitech Polara is close enough to the Hardwire Stereo Reverb.
Thank you for your comment. You don't really need the pedals I use. I always try to stick to one specific sound, what turns out to be very hard when there is so much gear out there. Some artists - that I really enjoy listening to - used very similar sounds. But surey not the same gear. These pedals bring me close enought to the sound I like. And yeah, the Polara has the exact same Reverse Reverb sound as the Hardwire RV7. I would rather use a Polara too, as it looks so great and is smaller the the old Hardwire. But it has not the "gated" setting. So I had to stick to this rare dinosaur. :D
Interesting. I do the shoegaze, dream pop thing too and have over 50 pedals but I don't have any of the ones you just showed. I used to have a Midiverb 2 but sold it in the early 2000s (wish I hadn't). I recently picked up a Walrus Audio Lore, Keeley Parallax and Eventide H90. Different tools for the same job I guess. Almost bought the Catalinbread Soft Focus but it seems like a one trick pony and I can "sort of" get that sound with the Keeley.
the soft focus just sounds really really good. you can adjust the modulation and even take it away completely so it works well as an always on reverb as well!
That's true, the Soft Focus does that FX500 Slowdive reverb sound, but it does it very good if you're looking for that specific sound. The Keeley Parallax is also very good. I recently discovered a company here in Germany called Licht Laerm Audio who create pedals with never ending reverb tales with different modulation styles. Pure shoegaze.
awesome video dude! i just got a soft focus and i think it’s my favorite reverb i’ve ever used. i think i’m going to try the pitchfork next. thank you for the amazing gear info.
A lot of people aren't into this, but I dig a lot of effects on bass. I've got a BOSS GT-6B that I've owned for almost forever, and it puts out the best sounds that I use for recording!
Cool board. I keep coming back to it BC you actually know THE SOUND. I use Boss multi effects as well as pedals. I just got Catalinbread Soft Focus and it's an always on pedal for me. Now i want to try the EQD Ghost Echo and Dispatch Master. And that Zoom was outstanding on that A3 setting. Like soft focus then tape echo? My Devi Ever Fuzz Goddess is ... Shiva the Destroyer of glitch fest ...like that one you demo'd. Its a real mean momma of chaos. I use EQD Hizumitas for #1 Fuzz as its more in my EHX BMP fuzz wheelhouse. I think the EHX Green Russian #2 is a great dual use bass and gtr fuzz good machine. The commercial in the middle was... hysterical and brillant. Detroit.
@@berlinshoegazer Appreciate that appreciation. And I'll keep watching ur vids for new pedals. New & expensive or used & thrifty, shoegaze or other style. I am currently infatuated with stereo i/o echos & reverbs.
Hell yeah I love glowfly pedals i just got an Albert gramophone simulator and I'm waiting for more episodes to be in stock and they were gonna make a custom glitch pedal for me and I've seen that Alesis pedal for very cheap .I usually have all my effects built so I can get hard to find stuff cheaper
Hey! That’s awesome to hear! The Albert gramophone simulator sounds like a fantastic addition to your setup. I can’t wait to hear what the custom glitch pedal will be like! It’s great that you’re building your own effects. The Alesis pedal is a nice find! Keep on gazing!
Dude, 11:00-11:50 sounds AWESOME so does the Katzen Jammer. Very tempted to buy all that stuff though I shouldn't cuz I just dropped a lot on shoe gaze equipment
That glow fly pitch delay sounds very similar to the particle reverb on the zoom multi stomp. There’s a setting on that effect that gives that sound I just can’t remember what it’s called
thanks for the upload! i've seen and really enjoyed a few of your other videos, but this is the first one that i've seen with that particular guitar... is that a mod for an akai mpx8 that i see there? i'd really like to see how you integrate that into your process.
Nice collection of pedals, and the noise at the end was great. You could add a bass line and some drums and you'd have a song. Have you ever tried any death by audio pedals? You should look into them if you haven't (I just got into them myself and have been pleasantly surprised) great video as ever
When I was a teenager all I had was a boss me 5 multi fx a crybaby wah and a few other pedals borrowed from friends I remember one was a zoom multi fx the size of a walkman it was mostly crap except the reverbs pitch and random filter
I also think so. Amp simulation is a weird thing. It can sound good without putting it in a specific context. But next to the real amp it sounds wrong in the mids and the highs are too present. Also the gain reaction seems quite artificial most of the time. I heard that Guitar Rig 6 worked on an AI solution for that. Need to check that out. And yeah, my distortion pedals could not be replaced with any vst plugin. Here analog is the key.
those old zoom pedals are just lovely
Yes, back in 2006 I didn't know anything about effects and just played through them. But today I really appreciate the sounds from these little plastic machines.
That Pitch Shifter sounds so cool! It immediately made those standard chords more magical.
well done! I like how you show that making interesting sounds is not about having expensive gear!

Wow, thank you so much for sharing your story. Means a lot to me. Cheap multistomps from the early 2000s seem to have very good sounds imo.
Just loved the final montage!!! Thank you to be back

Absolutely. It is so cheap and gave me many hours of fun. 🙂

Very good demo of your pedals and the last part with all the pedals sounded great!
Thanks man. It was just noise but for that video format - I just had to do it. :D

i’m pretty sure it’s the same algorithms as the RV7 so it should be pretty much exactly the same!
I use a polara and its wonderful. I usually use its halo setting for dreamier stuff

Killer sounds! Thrash master was my first pedal! ❤
Really? It has such a nice and dirty tone. Can't believe it's so hard to find.
They used to be cheap but a bit pricy now. Not sure if it's worth it, it's really just a scooped hm-2, right?

that Alesis unit is awesome i’ve never seen it before
Hey Daniel, it is very rare. But some people don't know that and are selling it for under 100 bucks on Ebay. It has very good reverbs.
