Less gain is the best option for me to clean up my sounds and to get more definition, especially if I'm using effect pedals. I love the darker lower tones, but I have to reduce the low frequencies on my amp to get good results otherwise it will get very muddy in the sound for rhythm parts. It's also a challenge to adjust the effects pedals for special tones that you are used to get from a "normal" guitar.
I love fuzz, overdrive, distortion and a lot of metal / doom pedals...but too much is too much and I have to reduce the effects to a minimum to have the flavor of the pedals and enough clarity and definition in the tones. Maybe you can give some suggestions what kind of pedals and adjustments you use. What do you think about about a 7 string baritone? It's a bit like an 8 string? Never played an 8 string guitar but I will try out these monsters soon. 🤘

Thanks for the info. I wish I had the split coil option back when I started playing. Baritones can be a nice alternative to "7-string" guitars.😎
