I agree, I read the book and learnt a bunch of stuff about fashion (mainly luxury) while having some fun
I just wanted one book to fulfill my need to learn a little more of fashion and trends... now i have a whole list of books I want to get! You make all of them sound incredible!
One book that I always come back to that falls in the literary theory world (but is still readable) is Roland Barthes’ The Fashion System (System de la Mode). It’s a semiotic analysis of fashion magazines and how they provide a window and world for a given garment.

I recently start to watching the fashion school series. There was a time that i give up with fashion because a thought that i wasn't fashion enough you know. Another book by Dana Thomas I would recommend is „Deluxe: How luxury lost it’s lustre” about the production of luxury goods and essentialy how they’re not so luxurious anymore. A lot of information and great attention to detail, real eye opener. It’s maybe a little dated but the main idea still applies.
Also it has Margiela Manic and Comme Des Garcons Monk

Ngl I watched literally because and only for Ametora. Just wanted to say that I think you can't talk about Ametora without talking about Take Ivy. It's the footprint of Japan's obsession with Ivy style.

primarily because I thought of Derrida as SOON as you started describing how difficult theory is to read
Gods and Kings, YES I just purchased Ametora, will listen tomorrow. I have been reading, or attempting to read, Science and Occultism, and while it is not fashion related, it is very dense, and difficult to get through. I will take your word for the effect on the brain and trudge my way through it. I do like to be enriched.
In the meantime, I will start listening to Ametora tomorrow

I got “blood beneath the skin”, not a huge fan of McQueen as style, but I appreciate more his life and how he put things into being made. I liked that book

Not sure if I’m missing something but I tried to read Gods and kings a month ago and I personally didn’t like it? I maybe got 4 chapters in before I stopped reading, it just talks a lot about the designer’s personal lives and I’m not really huge on fashion designers themselves so maybe that’s it. I actually liked the “preface” section of the book where it talked about what was going on socially in the fashion world, which is more what I’m interested in. If anyone’s read it, does it eventually teach you something valuable? I’m new to fashion books so maybe I’m just not on the right page

The only person who is both into fashion and dresses well. I've seen interviews of fashion's greatest minds and they're wearing black button down shirts like come on lol. No wonder why there's so little money in clothing, the only people who dress with style are performers and entertainers: rappers, pop queens, actors. As someone who really takes pride in what they wear it's disheartening to see even those who dedicate their lives to the art form are so uninspired. Also, this phenomena is mostly with Europeans: Americans and British have a much stronger sense of personal style. I'd love any insight from you Bliss, great video

Yeah, it’s a bummer when designers have 0 personal style. The only part of your statement I thought was strange was the last bit. Europeans have VASTLY better style than Americans imo 😂
@@BlissFoster You only see it like that since you live in America, as im commenting from a nation with a limited fashion culture: Europeans present as very refined and very rarely ostentatious. America and England being the global cultural powerhouses that they are, play the part. You could definitely say that the average European is better dressed that the average Brit. But the most iconic fashion moment's of the last hundred years were borne from celebrity and western culture. Or maybe not, what do ya think

Hi Bliss! Don't know if I am correct but it seems like audio and video are not synchronized well - when I look at the lips, it feels like there is a tiny delay with the audio and this drives me crazy. Does anyone experience the same thing?
If it helps solve the mystery, I record the audio and video on the same hardware: my iPhone. Maybe a RUclips issue?

Ok 👌 thx. still hyper fixated on fashion at the edge tho 😵💫 I feel like it caught onto something good. There was maybe a morbid interest in death within the 19th c with figures like Poe and the gothic era but defff in the 20th c and 1990s in particular there seems to be this obsession with death except not like the surreal wonder of the gothic era but with a sort of irony or complete disaffected ness (heroin chic). Def gonna look into some sort of research rabbit hole w this lol.

Maaaan when I got that it was like $30. I wouldn’t have recommended it if I knew they’d sell out immediately 😭 My best advice is to just set up an eBay alert
