    Love this pattern. Making a retirement quilt for my partner out of his old work shirts. I was worried it might be too difficult as I am a beginner, but loving how it’s coming together

    This was an awesome idea. I'm thinking of just making some random 5 inch squares and try your idea. That's just genius.

    Just this week my friend Tina from the "Quiltina" group posted her mothers quilt top. It looks like this but has red sashing between each block. I just LOVE it and can't wait to try this. Thanks so much for sharing!

    I am going to try using my collection of selvedge edges to make this quilt. I think it will be fantastic! And I’m going to use the brightest red solid I can find for the 5” squares used as the foundations for this block.

    I can tell that a person needs to be very careful and measuring. It almost looks to me like your second line is 3 inches away from the corner as opposed to 2 inches away. This reminds me, I can’t always trust my eye, and have to always measure. Thank you for a great video! I will definitely do this!

    YOU are VERY talented, and sweet too. Pleasure watching your videos. How do you like the cutter you're using vs. the other style? I loved the red version of this quilt SO much! It pops!

    I like your use of a unifying background fabric. To reduce bulk in the blocks (e.g not using the full block as foundation) you could consider using FPP method which would save 2/3's of your background fabric. You made a lovely quilt; thank you for demonstrating.

    • @revelationquilts
      @revelationquilts  2 года назад +1

      You are correct about using FPP, however that's probably a whole different tutorial and it's quite intimidating for some. I will eventually do a tutorial on FPP. I love paper-piecing so much though. It's my favorite technique.

    I wonder if a person could make this bigger by using a layer cake or yardage in larger blocks and longer strips? I would love this for a bed sized quilt!

    This quilt and your other one made from men’s shirts are so neat! I’m thinking of making some memory pillows in these patterns. If I were to use 4” squares instead of 5” squares, would my strips of the men’s shirts that I add be 1” or so? I may play around on some scrap fabric first to see how it turns out. But thank you!

    • @revelationquilts
      @revelationquilts  10 месяцев назад +2

      The strips can be of any width, but using 1" strips would add more variety for sure.

    Beautiful quilt!!❤ Did you make the pad under your wool ironing mat? I’d love to see if you did, I’m always worried about the table underneath the wool mat getting damaged

    • @revelationquilts

      I did not make it. I bought it here: amzn.to/3IogVt7 . It came with a silicone pad for my iron to rest on, although I rarely use it.

    Just curious, this quilt is so small. What do you use this for? Wall hanging? If you had more plaid, why not make at least a twin size? I guess I want that “quilt” to go on a bed. I do consider fabric “art” but..all the RUclips quilters make such small “quilts”. I do appreciate the ideas and know I can use it to make as large as “I want”. Really, love the design, just wondering why so small? (KH)

      @revelationquilts  Год назад +2

      For the sake of making tutorials & in order to get tutorials out on a timely basis, I tend to do smaller projects. I make mostly lap-sized quilts, mostly because they take less time and because I only have a couple beds in my home. I find that people appreciate sofa quilts more than bed-sized ones as gifts. Also most of my tutorials can be made to any size. My job is to teach the technique or pattern. The size you make is up to you.

    That little piece of cardboard you put aside would make a perfect 2" square template for marking those corners. The ruler is too tedious.

      I appreciate your feedback. My goal is to explain things in the simplest terms & to inspire others to give quilting a try. There are always many techniques to get the same results. Thanks for watching ☺️

      Honestly - I got tired of all that fabric and sold the remaining shirt fabric on FB marketplace for $5. I was ready for a new (and different) project. There was a tall kitchen garbage bag full of it.

      Sad. Was looking forward to seeing how many different quilts could be made from same fabric
      I understand getting tired of it tho. That's why I wanted you to do it. 🤣🤣
