    Thanks Carl. I'm thinking I should archive all of my 2doist content and start over. This time establishing the consistent habit of Weekly Review which I now do once every couple of months. -:).

      I don't think you need to achieve everything. One good weekly review would set you up. After that first one, weekly review won't take very long.

    Hi Carl. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with 'missed' occurrences of recurring tasks - say a daily exercise task which is not achieved for a few days?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  Год назад

      Hi Oliver, I don't worry too much about it. If I miss a routine, I will just reschedule it for the next day. Rescheduling does not affect the recurrence.
      Exercise would be different. Exercise is not a task; it's an "event", so should not be in Todoist; that should be on your calendar. Making exercise a "task" is a guaranteed way to be inconsistent with it.

    Thank you for explaining how you do this. My question is, why do you set up Routines and Areas of Focus differently? Why create a project called Routines with sections for Daily, Weekly, Monthly; but for Areas of Focus you set up a section within This Week? Why not also create a project called Areas of Focus with sections for Daily, Weekly, Monthly? (Personally it seems to make a little more sense to me to create an Areas of Focus project with Daily, Weekly, Monthly sections too. But I'm curious if there's a big benefit to doing it the other way that I may not be thinking about). Thank you!

      Hi Stephanie, for me, I organise it this way for reviewing these folders every three months or so. On a day-to-day basis, these tasks just drop into my Today view as and when they are due. I don't need to go into the folders to review them every week. However, routines can always be skipped (they are not essential), but I will never miss an Areaa of Focus, I consider these as critical. Hence the reason I separate them.

      One more question: If I understand correctly, you said your tasks in Next Week, This Month, Next Month, etc. do not have dates assigned to them. You just have dates assigned for the reoccurring Routines & Areas of Focus. And then when you do your weekly planning you will assign the tasks in This Week to certain days, right?
      So what about tasks that are not recurring, but that do have specific deadlines? Such as "Pay fee for Camden's AP Calculus Exam before Mar 6 deadline." For this task I would assign it to Mar 4. This kind of task doesn't fall into my Areas of Focus, and is more like a Routine (because it's more of a chore than something that moves my life goals forward), it's not a reoccurring chore, just one time. And it's really important that I make sure to do it by a specific date, so I need to have the date assigned when I add this task to Todoist so I won't accidentally miss it when it comes due in 4 months. So how would you treat this task? Would you add it as a task in the Long-Term category even though it has a date assigned? Or would you add it to Routines because it's a chore-like task even though it's not reoccurring? Just trying to figure out how I would apply this system to my situation, because I often have upcoming tasks that need to be completed on/before specific dates. Thanks so much for your time.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  10 месяцев назад

      @@stephbradshaw1 Oh, absolutely, I will add a date to a task is I am 100% sure it has to be done on a specific date. However, for those types of tasks, I will normally add them to my calendar as date-specific events. All my deadlines will go to my calendar, not to Todoist. Calendar = MUST BE DONE. Todoist = OPTIONAL.

    Do you put your recurring tasks also in your calendar or just syncronize them with Todoist?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  2 года назад +4

      Hi Sergio, if I need to do something on a specific day at a specific time, then it would be on my calendar (not in Todoist) if it can be done at any time on a given day, then it will be in Todoist.

    I don't see where recurring areas of focus reside. Is it a separate project? A section in another project? Where?

    How do i add a task that recur on March, July and November every year. Also I have the entire month to in order to complete the task. In other words, it should show me the task every day in March until I complete it in that month. And again it should show me the task on July....

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  Год назад

      You’re not going to be able to create dates like that. The way I would do it would be to set it to recur every day in March, then at the end of March, reset the date for July, and so on.

    Which is the purpose of dividing [Routines] and [Recurring Areas of Focus] tasks? It seems there might be some redundancies, am I wrong? Since there are Daily and Weekly routine tasks, those one should match with the ones in Recurring Areas of Focus.

      Areas of focus are important. Routines just need to be done, but are not important. By separating them I keep a clear line between the two. It makes making decisions on what to do easier and prevents me taking the easy option.

    Hello and thank you for your informative videos! Can you create a video on recurring tasks based on completion date? I saw in a todoist app review that you can use every! and the task will repeat the recurrence based on when you complete the task. So if you create a task to be completed every! Wed and you actually mark it complete on Thursday - will it continue to recur every Thursday until you mark it complete on another day? Can you also do every! with a daily task, and if so, do you wind up with two tasks the following day? Thank you in advance for considering this request.

      @@chanklacatora3058 You'd only ever get one instance of a recurring task. Once complete whether you use the ! or not, it will simple repeat on the next available day or remain unchecked.
