Let's be clear, White gold is made completely different than yellow gold and rose gold. It is the combination of the other metals that are added to gold that make the colors. Rhodium plated is not the same as true manufacturered white gold.
Yes basically white gold is just more silver and zinc content and less copper, while rose gold is more copper content.. That being said even when white gold is made in the correct % of alloys it's still rhodium plated after wards to help give it an even better luster.

The amount of misinformation in this is staggering. Rhodium is a metal that is plated on gold. White gold is supposed to be alloyed white prior to rhodium plating. Taking yellow gold and plating it with rhodium is basically a scam and not something any reputable jeweler would do. Its cheap.

There are actually two kinds of white gold one alloyed with nickel and the other with palladium. White gold is good for jewellery in the sense that it has better mechanical properties like being much harder. Nickel alloyed white gold is the cheaper option, produces a whiter gold, and creates very dense prongs, making them hold stones in place better, however these alloys are non hypoallergenic. That's why palladium is used. A greyer white gold , but still manages to bleach gold to white, at a premium price considering it's going at 2x the current rate of pure gold

In regards to the sales associate.
Rhodium isn't a chemical used to add colour. It's a precious metal that's worth DOUBLE the price of gold. It's commonly used to electro plate other precious metals, the colour is darker than silver but way shinier, it hard to scratch/buff off and is commonly used to plate silver jewelry in order to give it an anti-tarnish "coating".
You should hire someone trained/passionate about jewellery (like me). good looking guy with maximum product knowledge can outsell a pretty girl with only basic/hearsay knowledge any day 😂. Return customers and providing facts should be number one. Especially for RUclips/promoting your brand.

She put a veneer of Rhodium onto the ring instead of actually mixing platinum group metals with gold. Rhodium is a heavy metal which is a chemical element, but I don’t think she realizes that just from how she kept saying it’s a chemical.

Playing it not converting it to white gold get your facts straight. Literally in the Rhodium container it clearly says plate at 4 volts. Quit bein bums and fooling your customers. How about actually giving them Real white gold. Now everyone that has no knowledge on this topic is going to believe al white gold is only yellow gold that is plated. That’s not true. Yellow gold MELTED white nickel alloy creates the white gold. Just like if you want to make rose gold you add copper alloy. Green gold you add silver alloy. So many different variations
Correct. You can cast your gold white with certain alloys. People use, nickel and Palladium when casting to make white gold. If the gold is lower in the whiteness index for white gold, then they can Rhodium it if they want to, to give it that real white shine. She fucked up when she said all gold starts yellow. High quality white gold does not go yellow. I have a goldsmith who mixes his own alloys and he uses a gold/platinum/iridium mix which stays white forever. Rhodium is also an elemental metal, not a “chemical”

If your white gold jewelry fades, it wasn't made correctly. That just means the jeweler took the cheap way out and didn't electroplate a thick enough rhodium layer.

That ring has been "flash plated". Not the same as an original white gold ring. The plating will wear off within the year if not less. Then it will be yellow again. A white gold ring is mostly white but will have a tinge of yellow as all gold is yellow and alloyed to make other colors. For white gold the alloy is usually zinc, lower quality items use nickel. In order for the plating to last a very long time the item would have to be micron plated. This takes time as you need to build up the layers of plating. Just dipping it into rhodium plating solution for 1 minute will not be enough. I would be suspect about all of those "white" Rolex watches. Maybe they too are rhodium plated???? The girl need to learn a bit more.

If a jeweler says that the ring has Rhodium or anything on it don’t buy it. I sell jewelry and never used it but it’s a quick way to say this is white gold and just lie about it
This is WRONG information!! White gold is made by an alloy of yellow gold and a white metal usually nickel silver or palladium. It is a solid mix of metal white all the way through. All they did here is plate it with Rodium. Its now a Rodium plated yellow gold ring, that's if it's even gold cause she said it was fading. Real gold won't fade. Update: (However white gold is plated it Rodium to give it more of a brilliant white.) Sorry man, I think you should know. Thanks for sharing.

All gold is gold colored. White is a mixture of palladium or silver mixed with gold. This is a plating process using radium to cover gold. Plating will fade over time. Also radium is more expensive than gold. Also radium is a metal not a chemical.
