- This week we work on an entire home renovation for Philips parents while they are gone on a vacation! We area tackling their entire mainfloor which includes a huge kitchen makeover! This house tour is a great way to document where we are starting and how far we need to come! Stay tuned!
Gotta say, Elysia this house DESPERATELY needs your intervention to take this house and make it a home!!!👍👍

Paint the walls and ceiling white to Brighten up the home. Paint the trim on the outside of the house if you have time. Make a mud room with bench and shallow coat closet or hooks above the bench in the entry way. Open up the kitchen by getting rid of that rolling cabinet and build her a shallow pantry that’s flush with the kitchen doorway. Paint the walls in the LIVINGROOM white and the ceiling. That will make a huge difference. Put something nice on their front porch. Keep the Cameras for their safety. Bless you guys for doing this for them. 😊🤟🏼💕🙏🏼
That has to be the strangest thing I have ever seen! Grommets and screws to hold trim and flooring on the walls :) Can't wait to see what you found behind the flooring on the walls. It is a cute place, just needs some love for sure! Excited to see what you do with it all!

I definitely vote for shiplap for the hallway. I agree that shiplap is a super cute look for a coastal home, it’s definitely faster and easier, and I think it’s an inexpensive fix as well.
You can make a world of difference simply by painting the plywood walls. Seal the cracks, roll on the paint, and hang some coastal pictures.

That living room ceiling needs to be repainted flat white. It'll look so much better than that reflective, shiny white.
Just take the flooring off the walls and use it for the floor, lol
Maybe not use it for the actual floor, but it's a great idea to recycle it and/or whats taken off the stair fronts into some other use, such as decorative storage shelving on a wall etc.
Can't use it on the floors bc there's big screw holes in it
I think her cute table from a old sewing machine would be a sweet eating area for them
The flooring on the walls and stairs probably stops any drafts and offers some insulation. I wouldn't remove until you have a bigger budget
Make the entrance walls look like shiplap. Painting it white will make it look more like the rest of the house.
Was thinking shipman but not solid white but a whitewash distressed look with other soft colours. As if painted scrap wood was painted white and then worn off by weather. Under colours of different pale blues greens peach pink, very subtle water and sunset vibes.

Definitely paint the flooring on the wall…easiest solution & no dealing with any surprises underneath.
Could you make a cabinet that’s not as deep but from floor to ceiling. Could be a place to store small appliances and canned goods, like a pantry?? I know I always need storage space. Would a shelf that you add doors to work?? You have such amazing ideas!!!
Shiplap is always a great idea! It’s already installed which saves a bunch of time. You need all the time you can get for the rest of the house.
I have anxiety just thinking about your budget and timeline! If anyone can do it, you guys can!
Long term project… make the bottom part of the stairs drawers for extra storage.

It's amazing what you are doing for them! I think making everything shiplap, keeping what is there and fixing it up is better than taking it all down. Can't wait to see the kitchen Reno! That green color for the lower cabinets or navy blue would look amazing! 🤗

Paint the flooring on the wall and make it match the bead board on the ceiling and the other wall by the door. Bead board and shop lap can blend with each other if they are the same color. You don’t have enough time or money to do much else and it would look good
This is a major undertaking and I felt some stress in me hearing all you want to accomplish. Since time is of the essence, tearing down the ridiculous flooring on the wall in the entrance and rebuilding it back up again would be time better spent doing something more important. You can still make it more functional and look awesome with the more simple plan. I wish you good luck in this project. ❤
I agree....make the entrance look like ship lap....you CAN do it-we KNOW this. It would brighten up that entrance and make it look larger for sure! I'm wondering if you can move that freezer to where they are hanging their coats on the wall where the stairs are????? After seeing the walk thru of the first floor, I just don't see any other place for that freezer but where it is now or my suggestion....just so curious where you'll put that!!! This weeks episodes are gonna be sooo good!!! Can't wait to see this unfold!!

Move the day bed to corner in tv room since stove is near there. Use the area next to kitchen to extend the kitchen to a breakfast nook area or make it creative project area. Open the window up to add more light to living room.
You’ve only got a week and $1000. Paint over the flooring on the walls for now and you could do something better down the road, one project at a time. 😊💖

I vote for painting over the walls. It will take a lot of time just filling the holes and painting! I think that is the best use of your short time schedule. Good luck!❤
I like the idea of removing it and putting up a nice wallpaper to break up the shipman. But.....for the time/ budget crunch and filling in the gaps, just paint and chaulk it to make it look like shiplap.
No matter what you both do, your parents will love it and it will look amazing.

Get rid of the freezer, put the roll cart from the kitchen where the freezer was. It's not as deep and won't stick out, give a little storage. Paint ALL the paneling a light color.

Paint the plywood walls, but see what is behind the “floor” walls. You might find a nice surprise like the stairs.

Remove it! If you're going to do a job, do it right. No more bandaids. That's what you are trying to accomplish by removing the old ones. Why put another on? I would also tone down the glossy paint on the ceiling. You have lots of work for one week. Good luck! Don't stress if you can't get it all done, just getting the ball rolling will be a great surprise. And the momentum will help them realize the possibilities.

I would paint the trim on the outside, that would make look so much better.
Due to time constraints I would simply take a quick peak under the flooring on the walls to see what’s there. Gives you ideas for the future. Then, whatever doesn’t move, paint it. If possible put together a quick cabinet for the garbage and recycling bins. You can add open shelves for food or build a quick pantry. Curtains can be easily made where needed. I’d do cafe curtains in the kitchen. Can’t wait to see what you do. PS they may have slapped the flooring everywhere they could simply because they had so much and didn’t want to waste any.
Hi there English family, can not wait to see what you guys are going to do with moms and dads place. Maybe the boys can help Philp outside and even with moving the furniture inside. Paint is one of the cheeper ways to go.

I think you should make new kitchen cabinet doors. What is the room to the right under the stairs? Maybe move their table and chairs underneath the heat pump, then move tv and credenza over where the table and chairs were. Add board and batten or some dimensional design to the wood panels and paint. Very exciting!💯❣️

This is a perfect opportunity for you to design and renovate a space. To stretch your creativity to make it to someone else's style I am excited for you. I have confidence in you guys and if it were to fall flat, which it won't, it will be an easy fix. I vote for shiplap in the entry. Put that pretty green bench there. With some hooks and a shelf. Please remove that flooring from the stairs, if you have time. I can't wait to see that backsplash! Perhaps you'll have extra to add to the great room and entry? Are you going to make changes to the cabinets besides the handles? I can't completely remember your color scheme, but that blue or green could look nice on the great room walls. I hope you can add shiplap to the ceiling that needs it. Anyway... Just some thoughts. This will be a wonderful gift. I'm sure Phillip's dad will be happy with the yard and front of the house refresh for Father's Day. Have fun!

Shiplap on the ceiling in the sleeping/TV space. Tile of some sort behind the woodstove. Shiplap as a backsplash and on the walls in the kitchen.

Paint walls white for a quick fix. You have so much ahead of you. I saw a channel that used a black marker to create the ship lap lines and it came out great
I would pull it off to see if it’s the same as the other walls. Keep it all the same, so it’s not too much going on in a small space.
Make it like ship lap!! Easier faster ... this is awesome! Idea ... can you put the daybed where the dining table is? and is there entry to the living room where the dining table is ... maybe ... idea close that door off to a wall...the one to the kitchen ...so maybe you can put the freezer in the kitchen and so more cabinets can go where the door is ...for food storage ..then the hallway can also be more utilized with storage for things! the little island cabinet can be used to separate the dining room from kitchen or can be utilized under the stairs for storage for shoes etc ... and then the main focus is the living room when you walk in ... .too bad the woodstove isn't in the living room area ... just some ideas as asked .... :) Phil... paint that trim outside white ! windows maybe some old shutters ..or just some homemade shutters ... to make the windows look bigger .. and some plants LOL :) PS ... maybe put thetv on the wall where the glass cabinet is ... the daybed a little out from the wall so they can get to the laundry ..where the dining table is ...nice plant at the back like ...in the corner ...then the wooden cabinet under the large window... then the couch under the window where the tv is now ... just a bit more I saw after watching again ... lol I hope you blindfold them before they get home to see ...wish I was there I would help! nice of you both to do this for them! lol
Maybe a nice runner of sorts on the stairs so they don't slip... down on the stairs ...

Paint the wall to look like shiplap. In addition to being more practical and economical, it also coordinates with the style of the house.
Elysia, I had the same counter top, and no extra money to buy something else. I sanded, sealed and painted mine, then added sponged 3 colors, black, gray and silver. When I show friends my kitchen, they comment on the countertop on how much they like it!
What ever you guys do I know will come out amazing you are very talented and can't wait to see it all done.

This is exciting! So much fun to watch! Re. the vinyl flooring on the wall: isn't there a risk that paint could peel off in the future (even after using the correct prep/primer)? The climate, including being next to the water, could play a role in that, too, couldn't it? It would be a total drag to have wasted your time prepping & painting, only for it to start coming off & looking terrible.
You know I think they were boat people; it reminds me of the old boat cabins. That would explain the wood on the walls. Also, the garments. They decorated it like a ship cabin of old. May have been really cool with decor. When you first showed it, it reminded me of something and the garments and stair it was bingo.

The wood tiles you're creating - as seen in the "sneak peak" - are going to be beautiful❣️ All flat white paint throughout will definitely unify and balance everything better so it doesn't look so chaotic and disjointed as it is now. 😳🥴😬🤪🙃*

I know it’s a lot of work, but I think you should take all that flooring off the wall patch the holes that won’t take long and paint get rid of that first cabinet when you walk in the door to the left it is ugly. Maybe try to fit the freezer under the stairs, I think that might be more practical, even though you don’t wanna look at it maybe you could just draw a curtain over it because it’ll be out the way, I can’t wait to see what you have planned and they would never throw you out. You take good care of their son.
